you could try that. it works sometimes.

you could also try to clean the throttle by spraying carb cleaner or something similar.

Yeah, I should clean it. Is it hard to do?

nope! you just remove the intake hose or pipe. then with the engine running you spray the card cleaner and at the same time pull the acellerator cable to about 3000 rpm.

but if you really want it real clean, you have to take out many parts. and that is hard to do. you could just do this when there are other things you need to do like replacing valve cover gasket, etc.

Hi,

I did all of the stuff above, full tune up, clean ICV, throttle etc...Changed both motor mounts! Yet I would still get a occasional low idle situation.

Then one day my car quit, she shut right off. I thought fuel pump etc... Turns out it was ignition problem. My co-worker and I narrowed it down to a bad secondary coil in the distributor.

I had 2 options. Grab a 35 dollar coil and replace it, the one in the dizzy , or get a whole new dizzy for 150. Well due to time constraints I got a whole new dizzy for 150 and now my car does not hesitate or have any rpm issue. Smooth

Also, check how much slack do you have in your throttle cable. Adjust it so there is no slack and that should help in smoother acceleration...

It took me almost a year to pin point the issue

Car in subject is a 94 Celica GTS 5SFE

And this is the part that was messed up, the coil in the dizzy

Get that or get a whole new dizzy if you have not done a tune up yet. Look around your area at local Jap car parts places for best deal. I payed $145 CDN here in Toronto.

Why would you use 0w40? It says 10w30 right on the oil cap. This isn't some super advanced, direct injected engine, it's a run of the mill DOHC 4 cylinder.

P.S. - don't use synthetic either. No point.

Yeah,
I got 125 k miles on my, about 200 000 km and I run 10W30 Quaker State, Castrol or what is on sale. All non-synthetic. I also do not use crap Oil like AutoLab or some other really low no name cheap brand.

You are in Europe so stick to some brand name oils in Europe like Castrol or ELF etc.. 10W30 should be fine for that climate.

Also the drivetrain, sometimes jerks back when I do not wach my shifting closely.

Rear tranny mount possibly going out ??

If your RPM increase slowly then maybe you have a vacume leak or something ?

I dont know why that would be your clutch if theres no slip or anything.

I did the engine mounts F and R and it improved a bit...What rear tranny are we talking about here ? I see 2 mounts on each side of the frame rails and 2 mounts for the front of engine and one at back of engine ?

Hmmm I should look into tranny mounts I guess

i dont think he cares whether or not they look good. it's time to stay safe in the winter season smile.gif

you had the exact same idea i had lol, sunfire rims will also fit, same bolt pattern, lots of both sets available out there, some subaru rims are also that size.

The 14" rims with year old tires got sold in no time, i was at work and could not go to get em..

Still looking

I like the cavalier/sunfire idea. Also VW mk4s are 5x100 and lot of em have 195 65 15 or 205 wide tires on steelies. Just have to find the right deal on kiji or craigs

Hey,

My 94 celica just hit 125 k miles the other day... I think I am on the stock, factory clutch. The grab point of the clutch is just about half way up of the pedal travel.

I do not have any slipping. The rpm increase slowly, say in 5th gear when under WOT and also in lower gears when I accelerate even in the high rev range all the way to redline.

I do not abuse the car and shes my daily driver...I am curious how much longer I got.

Also the drivetrain, sometimes jerks back when I do not wach my shifting closely. I did all the tune up items and shes got a new distributor as well as new rear KYBs since they were a little soft. The shocks in rear decreased some of the jerks but its still not gone completely.

This points me to the clutch, is it getting tired ? Does the pressure plate have to do anything with this ?

Are the 6 gen celices a pain in the butt to do a clutch, how is the access ? I never did a clutch but my coworker offered to help if I need to do it and he has done clutches in the past.

Thanks all....

Hey,

I am looking to buy some winter wheels.

I got a line on 195 70 R 14

I was wondering if they will fit my 94 GTS 2.2L.. The 14" rims came from a Chev Cavalier with a 5x100 bolt pattern

Thanks fellas

Yea the mounts are bad.
They've been bad basically since I got he car, cause I was told, and could tell there was new struts but theys till knocked.

My internet has been crazy lately and hasn't been working much so I haven't done a lot of research.
I got a price from a local shop for both rear struts and the mounts for 347 taxes included.
I think I may find something on ebay for cheaper, if anyones got some websites or something let me know.

Still gotta confirm that the struts actually need to be replaced, but might as well start looking now.

Hey,
I just replaced the rear struts on my celica. 94 GTS, I bought 2 rear struts by KYB GR-2

I bought em from a Canadian parts supplier for $84 bucks a piece. Shipping charge included if order over $75 of stuff from this website

Well some good news and some bad.
The good is that the bushings fit into the control arms. Ended up taking them to a shop and surely pressed out the old and then pressed the new poly ones in. So I am happy about that.

Bad news, I can't for the life of me get the 8" bolt out. I tried the same tactics as Samflint1 and no luck. As well from whalen on the bolt for so long it was starting to mushroom at the end. So I will be taking the celi to a shop where they can use a hotter acetylene torch to loosen them.

Hey,

I am in Mississauga, Ontario.
I have a 94 GT-S which has 1 bushing starting to go in the front control arm....I think it is to change em and it looks like I will be doing same job as you pretty soon.

How much was shipping for you from Poland ?

I will be parting out my 94 GTS Hatch as soon as I find another car. I would like to get a feel for the parts that people would want. If there isn't enough interest, I might just sell the whole car or send it to the wreckers.

whats wrong with it that u want to part out/ send to wrecker??

The car is 16 years old so its time for me to get a new one. I recently suffered a leaky gas tank and my brake lines leaked today. Instead of paying to fix, I've opted to get another car. I don't have the time and passion that I used to in order to keep up with the things I would like to do to my car. I don't think I'll get good value for the car because there is some body work that needs to be done and I have to fix the brake lines and gas tank.

hey,

Not too many 6th gens around the GTA, thats for sure.

If u do part, i'd be interested in the rear hatch cover for my 94 gts with black interior.

Thanks

I found 16" Momo Arrow rims for sale. 2 rims need tires, rest is good for about 350 bucks.

How would they look on the Celica ?
