Yes, I pull the lever, I hear it open, but by the time I walk back to the trunk it is completely closed and locked. I checked it out when I got home today and fixed the problem. The trunk lid has two rubber bumpers that should have just enough tension on them when the latch it pulled that it pops the trunk open enough to keep it unlatched. I guess over the years mine have either smashed a little too flat, lost some of their resiliency, or the metal on the trunk where they attach maybe got tweaked a little. There is no way to adjust them like on some cars so I used a pair of needle nose pliers to adjust the holes a little. I inserted the pliers into the holes and bent them out/down a little. Now the holes look like little upside down volcanoes. I reinserted the rubber bushings and now my trunk pops and stays unlocked just fine. Hope this helps somebody else in the future. A better way of doing it would be to just buy new rubber bushings, but this way worked just fine for now.

If I pull the handle to pop the trunk it will not open unless somebody is standing back there to lift up on the trunk lid. The same thing if I use the key to pop the trunk. Is there a spring, or an adjustment of some sort that can take care of this?

Been looking everywhere for a tutorial on how to change my timing belt on my 1999 Celica GT. I hate chilton and Haynes manuals and was hoping somebody had created a decent tutorial online.

Actually after listening to it again, I think it is coming from under the timing cover. Probably need a new tensioner.

I do still need a recommendation on oil and any treatments you guy advise.

Yes, it has been taken care of. I returned the crap plugs and installed oem and everything is running good. Well...except for the ticking/knocking that I just posted about in another thread.

I have a ticking/knocking noise in my engine that goes away when I rev it up or after the engine warms up a few minutes. I am due for an oil change so i thought I would run some seafoam through it and clean out any deposits that may have built up over the last 230k miles. The previous owner was religious about oil changes. he was the second owner and bought it when it was 1 year old so I am sure he took pretty good care of it. I was living in South dakota and recently moved to Las vegas so I was just wondering what oil is recommended for the hotter weather down here. Should I run the seafoam and change the spark plugs and oil or should I run some other engine treatments instead?

Lately I have noticed a rattling noise until my engine is warmed up. It almost sounds like plastic vibrating somewhere. It sounds like it may be coming from the passenger side of the engine compartment. Maybe under the timing belt cover. Do timing belts get noisy when they start to go, or maybe the tensioner? I was told that the timing belt had been changed at 200k but that was before I purchased it. I noticed on the cover it has a sticker saying it was changed at 104k and I have 244k on it now so I will probably just go ahead and change it to be on the safe side. But anyways, are there any common problems on the Celica's that could cause a rattling sound until it warms up? It is mostly at idle and slow speeds(parking lot) but then as soon as I get on the gas it will start to get louder for just a split second and then go away. Once I come to a stop, and let the engine come back to idle, it will typically start rattling again until it has been running for a few minutes.

Yes, it is true that you can easily damage the wires when pulling them, but that is why I use a boot puller. I took a few minutes to clean up the old plugs, regap and reinstall them and it runs great now. Infact, it runs better than before. So I am going to return the Bosch plugs and get some Denzos.

Everything was fine before changing the plugs and air filter so I highly doubt that it is the dizzy or wires. I am just going to swap the old plugs back in for the time being to see if the problem goes away.

The wires are not mixed up, I swapped them one at a time, plus they are all different lengths so it would be difficult to mix up unless disconnected completely. I double checked that they were tight before installing the wires, but did triple check the torque and the wires after it ran like crap. I also just pulled the ECU, hazard and EFI fuses to reset the ECU thinking maybe the ECu needed to relearn after changing the plugs and air filter.

Also, if pregapped plugs are a lie then how do you gap a dual electrode plug, and what would I gap it to?

99 Celica GT, Automatic. I wasn't sure how long it had been since the spark plugs had been changed so I decided to pick some up while I was at the store today. I picked up a set of Bosch Platinum +2 (4303) and installed them once I got home. The old plugs didn't look too bad except 2 of them that had some oil on the porcelain from when I spilled some a few weeks earlier. The platinum 2's do not require any gapping so I just pulled the old ones and installed the new plugs in about 10 minutes. Then I changed the air filter and started the car. It was idling kind of rough, and stumbling very low, maybe as low as 300 rpm. I revved it up slowly a couple times and it felt like the throttle response was lagging until the rpms got higher and then it would smooth out. I drove it from one side of my parkinglot to the other, maybe 300 feet, and it was really stumbling and gutless. It stumbled less as it accelerated. Does the Celica not like the Bosch Platinum 2 plugs, or did I maybe get a bad batch? Any help I can get would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes, you are another brilliant one. I was only a dick after asking a simple question about other forums. I don't feel like signing up for another 5 forums only to find out that one of them is decent. That is why I asked. I know I could have googled Celica forums, but I would rather be referred to someplace. So all of you can **** off. Thanks for the tip about celica-tech. I can see why this site never took off like it should have.

Sure, I could start a new thread, but then you people would tell me to search because it has already been asked. There is no reason tostart a new thread when a similar already exists.

BTW, I do appreciate how you guys make me feel welcomed.

But...if you know there is a thread about your topic...why not just search for it then?there are thousands of topics on these forums.Plus, i think, that the search function is very useful when used correctly. You can put a + in front of the words, that makes the search only search for threads with ALL the words that have a + in front ..such as: +3sgte +gt +swap, or +gt +caliper +grinding, or +gt-4 +conversion +ST ....it makes it a bit easier..

My god you are ****ing dumb. A similar thread already existed, but it did not answer my questions fully. So I asked some questions pertaining to that thread. I did not start a new one because the problems were the same, I just need more info. For ****s sake, if you are going to bitch and moan about this then at least read the threads you are talking about.

Like I said, I was not trying to bash this forum. I was only trying to find a more active forum so i can get my questions answered. I see so many unanswered questions on this forum(some of mine) and there are very few tutorials. I figured there would be at least a tutorial for brake changes. yes, I know it is a simple task, but it is still nice to have an article when questions come up. As suggested, I went to Celica-tech and my question was answered right away. I am not planning on leaving this site, I just wanted more resources. Membership to more Celica forums means more information at hand...RIGHT?

I need to find an active celica forum with "how to" articles and knowledgeable people. This obviously is not the best forum out there and I am tired of waiting for days to never for answers. Please recommend other celica forums that you guys are using. i am not trying to bash this forum, it just doesn't suit my needs ever.

So I decided to finally tackle this problem, but it is kicking my ass. It seems to me that my caliper piston is way too tight. My pads were wore down to metal so i decided to start by replacing the pads since i know that uneven wear can cause the brake to stick. So i installed new pads and pushed the piston back in with a C-clamp. I lubed up all of the slides, brackets, pins, bolts and put everything back together. The wheel spun freely and was nearly silent compared to the constant metal on metal scraping sound that it had before. As soon as I started the car and pressed the brake pedal, the wheel immediatley locked up and would not spin freely. This leads me to believe that my caliper is not releasing correctly. How much would it cost to either have the caliper rebuilt, or replaced? Is this my next step, or am I missing something much easier?

My right rear brake has been dragging and I think it is the e-brake. Unfortunately I am not supposed to do vehicle maintenance in my apartment parkinglot so I have to go somewhere else. Can somebody tell me what tools I may need to fix this? So far I have loaded up the floor jack and jack stands, lug wrench, allen wrenches. I have never done brakes on a Celica before so I don't want to take a bunch of tools I wont need, but want to make sure I bring all the ones I defintely need, and might need.
