your front rim is oval shaped, lol

Yeah it does have a little bit of a bend. It's not as bad as it looks in that pic though, there is really some optical illusion going on there.

PS. I got those KYB super Specials you suggested. Thanks for the part numbers. They ride pretty close to stock on 1 and if I want them stiffer I just turn the knob.

Tiger Eye Mica under a cloudy day........to me, still looks like a turd...

In the right lighting (like a photo shoot or bright ass daylight) It has a nice copper richness to it, but I think that in all regular aspects its still the color of poo.

My poo never sparkles like that.
Can you take a picture of your next dump to verify?

Brown would look like a turd cut in half. Carbon Grey Metallic

I don't think all browns look bad:

Tiger eye Mica

and whatever this is on a Venza

They both look really nice in the sun.

I like your style. I have an FD and a GT4 Celica too.

I know what you're talking about tracking the FD. I'm on my 2nd FD tracking mine (time attack) after putting it into a barrier during nationals 2009. I found it a potent car at 260WHP finishing 2nd overall in the region for 2010. I can only imagine 550WHP with a V8. It would be scary.

I dabbled in rally-x but you know that scary feeling when you can't control your slide on the track, well rally-x is like that but the feeling never goes away.

The White sucked. Sucked. Never get white wheels. Graphite is really easy to keep clean and looks better than dirty white.

I used duplicolor wheel paint. 2 cans primer, 4 cans paint, 4 cans of clear (you won't want to spray with a can after it is 2/3 empty because it comes out out uneven).

I find that you want to do lighter coats of paint then 1 light clear and then one heavy clear coat so that you get a glossy finish when it self levels.

Prepped:

Primed:

Paint:

Cleared:

OLD nasty:

^ I only see ST202 Super specials. I know both use a superstrut but I don't belive they are identical. I don't think you can use an ST202 Super special on an ST205.

As I expected my ST205 struts are going.

Cuts_the_Pilot, can you post the part numbers for the KYB superspecials. I can't seem to find them or even a vendor who has them for sale.

well, you only need 4 struts (2 front, 2 rear).
Springs and depending on the mileage/age of your old mounts you might want to change those while you're at it.

Koni or bilstein are the only budget shocks you should consider if you want good ride quality on lowering springs. Coilovers have really ****ty dampening and ride like a bouncy hay wagon. I've owned 4 sets of coilovers and finally went with bilsteins on my rx7. That was the best decision yet.

Why the &$%# would you tint your windshield? Don't you want to see where you're going?

I know what the purpose of a spoiler is. Lift is created when a region of low pressure is created over the top of an airfoil relative to the bottom. The spoiler depicted above will likely create lift because the front of the spoiler is above the rear.

Well, I seem to be in the minority in this thread. Maybe it's because I actually race cars, maybe it's because I like to drive my cars in real life situations and not have them ride like a hay wagon or scrape on every bump or pothole ... regardless, I don't like 'coilovers'.

I have owned 4 cars with adjustable 'coilover' suspensions (Cusco, Silkroad, Tein). The ride quality on all of them sucked. I have seen shock dynos of these JDM brands and they all suck. They are overdamped, their adjustment knobs do almost nothing, do way too much or do the wrong thing. On the track they don't seem to perform as well either unless it is perfectly smooth asphalt with no dips. The only thing they do well is height adjustment. If you are looking for a suspension that you can slam and don't care about how rough it is get these cheap coilovers (anything under $3000 is a cheap coilover).

If you want good ride quality and performance stick to a quality brand shock and properly matched spring. I suggest Bilstein or Koni (rebound adjustable), plus a mild drop spring with 20-40% increase in stiffness. This will give you a comfortable ride and good performance.

A spoiler that creates lift on the rear end kind of defeats the purpose.

Staying in the garage for winter huh? That's funny I bought my GT4 so I could keep my other car in for winter. kindasad.gif

What is your winter beater?

So you bought a 'toy' car but can't afford $500 for tires?

Nice ride none-the-less.

I wanted to know if the Celica can rally.

You CAN rally anything. AWD cars are usually the best for obvious traction reasons. What sor of rally do you intend on doing? navigational? rally-x? rally sprint?

No. In Canada they are legal if 15 years old. In the USA they are legal after 25 years old.

i didn't read all of the last post but it is possible to get a real GT4 in america legally... there was one for sale on here just a little bit ago in ohio for 25k.... its not IMPOSSIBLE so don't say that

No. It is not federally legal. In order to do so, they need to have crash test data, and Toyota will not supply that. So they need some cars to crash; you willing to import enough cars for that (I hear numbers between 6-15 are needed)?

This is what Motrex went through when they legalized the R33's. It cost them a ton of money.

^ ^ It's not that importing a JDM car into the US is costly or difficult. It is impossible to import an entire car legally. The only avenues available are 'non-legal' ones.

The easiest and cheapest way is to have a US titled Celica the same color as a GT4 in canada. Drive the Celica across to canada, swap the VIN plates onto the GT-4, send the celica to the scrapmetal yard and drive your GT4 home. Don't forget to pray on your way across the border.

WOW.
I always have an extinguisher in my FD, but you'd expect a rotary to catch fire, not a Toyota.

I havnt finished with it in any way, looking for some recaro's at the moment as leather isnt the best for holding in a skinny short dude tongue.gif

I know how that feels. I had leather in my FD rx7 track car and I was always sliding around like a wet-and-wild. So to solve that problem I bought an RZ edition RX7 that came stock with Recaro Carbon/Kevlar 1 piece buckets.

No welding required, they are the full super street, im not keen on welding suspension components.

Super Street? Tein? I thought they were KYB? You mean Super Strut?

I think you did a marvelous job on this car. I wouldn't have thought those wheels would look as good as they do on the car. +1 for keeping everything clean.

I can't wait until my silver gt4 lands. I have found some inspiration in yours.

What did/do you think of the KYB super specials? I've had some coilovers (Tein, Silkroad, Cusco) on other cars and I've found them to be bouncy (overdamped), unconforatable and performance on the track/auto-x was poorer than an OEM Bilstein/spring combo.

The damper selection for ST205's is very poor, so I'd like to know what you think of the KYB's and what you are comparing them to?
