Nice ![]() Thinking if it would be easier to connect a SS box or use a MegaSquirt instead. |

Alright, Great pic. Thanks for that. I mixed up my engine, It was a 4A-FE, But they are basiclly the same right? Also i heard some people making a mix between 7A engines and the 4A-GZE engines. Anyone got more info on that? I guess they take the complete block from the 4A-GZE and the head from 7A-FE? The lowered compression and better pistons would make it alot easier. And i guess it got better connecting rods, crankshaft etc? Since the 7A/4A-FE is a economy engine and everything is lightweight it probably won't hold for much pressure. |

@ Stener do you know the 7a in the Carina E is a leanburn engine? It has the leanburn system between the head and inlet manifold. Don't know if this is a problem if you're gonna turbo it because the 7a in the Carina E is designed to run lean all the time. Yea the lean burn system will probably screw that up, I guess it's in the ECU software aswell to run in lean burn mode so i might need to get a box from another car with the same engine management system but without lean burn and remove all components linked to lean burn. Or can you remove it completely by removing the physical components? Thanks for all the tips and i apologize if i'm ruining your good thread! |

Thanks. Does it matter which generation it comes from? I'll be checking around on scrapyards for a MAP sensor first of all ![]() Where did you get the oil to the turbo from? Is there an oil pressure sensor convenient that i can remove and put a "T" on and use it to get oil to the turbo aswell? I'll lower down the oil pan and weld an oil return asap. |

Alright. The standard ECU can adjust the amount of fuel needed by the MAP signal without any modifications? Is there a MAP sensor standard that i just need to replace? I really appreciate the help, I'm totally novice when it comes to Toyota ![]() |

to Stener: 200HP should be fairly easy on a stock block. 250 might be pushing it but i dont know enough about the strength of teh internals. i can tell you this, the 1ZZ-FE rods in the MR2 and 7th gen celica can handle 350 HP and the the 7A rods are much beefier. the pistons also look to be a bit stronger, so take that for what its worth. Alright, thanks. I've been turbocharging alot of Volvos but never on a Toyota so i have no clue how the internal components will react to this! I wanna be on the safe-side since this is my everyday car that i go to the store, work with etc. I'm thinking of using stock air-intake and stock engine including head with original camshafts and all that, And just weld my own twin-entry turbo exhaust manifold and boosting through a intercooler. And i'll probably put in a MegaSquirt unless there's a good chip or something to control the fuel with that doesn't cost a fortune. I don't know what ECU that's stock in these even. And how much boost you think i could run with without wearing out the engine? My english might not be the best, I'm a swede! |

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum. Found the forum using google trying to find parts for my 7A-FE engine ![]() I found this thread very interesting, As i'm also thinking of turbocharging my 1.8 liter engine. What are done to the engine? Compression-ratio lowered or new rods or anything like that? If i'm gonna turbocharge my engine i don't feel like putting a whole lot of work in it since it's my going-to-work car. Never heard anything about how strong 7A-FE engines are, I'm thinking about 200-250HP and the car is a Carina E wagon ![]() Got any pic on only the exhaust manifold? |
