I know the max is 14.7 psi or so. Is it possible to boost past that? I'm using a safc2 for Tunning so I know the unit tricks ecu into thiinking there's less air coming in So ecu doesnt see full 14psi from sensor. So can i boost past 15 psi without any issues? |

I'm guna keep it short : Saturday I washed my dusty engine. Covered intake, alternator, n distributor. Monday I drove car early to work. Everything was fine. on my way home car started to sputter n died. I got fuel but no spark. This morning I tried a new igniter, car starter for a few seconds then died My rotor n cap are pretty new. I got new wires as well. I get power to igniter but no spark at plugs.... No engine codes either Can anyone suggest Wat I can do next? Thanks. |

it turns out it was my wastegate arm. it was some what at an angle and even though the flap seemed closed it remained a little open. i had tried holding the wastegate closed with a wire before and i had the same problem, only boosting 11 psi, but the wastegate arm was still connected...... i completely removed my wastegate and tied the flap closed again with a wire; when for a spin and shot all the way to 15psi. thats how i knew the arm was at an angle keeping the wastegate a little open. soon after that i noticed my turbine wheel was chipped...i had no filter so most likely something flew in and broke it so i got myself a new turbo, a i correctly positioned my wastegate...and this time i went with a 50 trim instead of the 57 and boosting around 14 psi and i get spool at 2500RPM and get full boost at about 3k RPM =] happy camper! lol |

Don't worry just test right after the turbo and right before the throttle. I fixed all my leaks but I can't go past 11psi. I think my downpipe might ght be the problem, its kinda crappy.....lol |

testing for leak at 3-5 psi wont do much for you. i too was testing with low pressure, but as soon as i started checking at 15psi i started finding a bunch of leaks everywhere. im still having boost issues myself. for some reason i cant got past 11psi on my t3t4 turbo.... =/ |

So, I fixed the leak on the throttle and still have the same problem. I even tied the wastegate arm with a wire to keep it from opening. I don't know what else to try. . Maybe I'll upglsize the downpipe this week to see if that helps... any other thoughts? |

i think i found my problem, i was checking the car while it was on with a hose to my ear trying to listen around injectors, TB, etc. and i heard hissing sound coming from the back of my throttle body right by the IACV....that might explain why my idle would not go lower than 1100rpm without retarding timing..... im gona fix that leak today and hopefully i should be boosting a little better. thanks for the replies |

The booost gauge is still pretty new. If it was bad at least I would feel the extra power. Ive been searching other forums and I got the idea that my exhaust might be too small. Alll my exhaust is 2.25" starting from the downpipe |

hey whats up guys, once again i have ran into another issue. this past weekend i was doing some tuning on my car and i wanted to UP the boost a little bit more, but to my surprise i cant go past 11psi...... i did another boost leak test and my intercooler pipes( inlet to outlet) hold 15psi without trouble and the pressure stays pretty steady....so no mo major leaks there... i got a cheap MBC when the MBC is closed i boost 7spi which is the wastegate spring load MBC half way open = 11psi fully open = 11psi if i remove the boost controller and leave the hose that connects to it by itself, still get 11psi............. so i im assuming i must have a leak somewhere past the throttle body...im not sure how to test the intake manifold and all other vac lines to see if i got a leak there under pressure, because in idling i sprayed starting fluid around injectors, manifold, ects. and idle didnt change. or is it possible that my EGR could be leaking??? any help is appreciated |

when i did the leak test the engine was off, but i covered the BOV with my hand.. it was leaking from under it on the flange that connects to the intake pipe. mine had a rubber O-Ring and then and one of those metal clips to secure it. thats where it was leaking from..... as far as the turbo goes, im pretty happy where its at right now, ill upgrade as soon as i got more $$$$ lol im happy with the way it performing right now. |

mgnt232 : the supra head lights come with a little weather strip right on the part where the hood sits on. Also, the fenders are the celica ones, i did have to cut them, but it was a paint in the A$$ doing it like that. the hood gave me a little trouble too. word of advice is, when you do yours, just go with some fiberglass supra fenders and some how merge those with the ones on the celica. that will make the bumper align easier, same goes for the hood.... Smaay: side by side pictures sound good lol im always near palmdale area since i go to santa clarita pretty often, i believe from there is just another 20-30 mins drive to your place. let me know when you get your supra running. and thank you guys for all the feedback! |

thanks guys! yeah, i need to fix the front....i was thinking of adding flares all around to make the body flow a little better. its true, the fenders need more work. i still got some paint left over so i should be able to get it fixed. Im also gona have to add wheel spacers to make the rims sit flush with the car. but thats gona have to wait for a while, since im out of funds for the time being i got other bills to pay 1st =/ thanks for all the input! BTW im thinking of going to the dyno in a couple of weeks so stay tuned! im really hoping im hitting between 200-250hp ![]() |

hey whats up guys, my name is jose, i've been around this site since i got my celica in December of 2010. since then i have put a lot of effort, sweat, and tears to this car. anyway, lets get started: i purchased from craigslist this 1994 celica gt. its had some nice rims, the interior is all black leather and was in very good condition. the only bad thing is that it was not running. after towing the car to my house, i started tearing this thing apart and i discovered that the water pump gear was broken and some of the pieces where jammed on the other pulleys etc. i ended up rebuilding the engine by my self, new pistons, rings, bearings etc..( first time ever attempted) and i was happy with the results i also ported and polished the head, intake runners and opened up the throttle opening here are some photos of the process: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() soon after i finished i then started gathering the necessary turbo parts to turbo the celica 460 injectors, t3t4 turbo, medium intercooler, turbo manifold, SAFC2 and all that good stuff here is a picture of my engine finished, ready to be dropped in: ![]() stage 3 clutch: ![]() i finished putting the engine into the car and then i got the crazy idea of doing a full supra body conversion... lol and so it began.... ![]() started with the back, and then i moved to sides, and finally the front: ![]() i made brackets, fiberglass, etc.. to make all this work. after i was almost finished with the body conversion i started installing all my turbo parts intercooler: ![]() ![]() i then started tuning the car, ran into a few tuning issues, but they got resolved quickly ported n polished my turbo, and the car started looking a bit more complete ![]() ![]() once i finished up all my bodywork, properly tuned my engine to 11psi and i finally decided it was time to paint the car. so i painted the car last weekend. so here is the car once it was painted: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() well thats pretty much it.. im still working on a few things in the interior and minor things on the exterior i still gotta color sand the car and repaint because i wasnt 100% happy with my bodywork, but overall i think it looks good. i will post pictures of the engine bay once its all cleaned up ( got hoses and wires all over) this week im working on a home made water methanol injection kit. all im missing is the hobbs pressure switch and a check valve and that would be the final thing i need to install to give my car a little more boost (~15psi) and then go to the dyno and post the results for you guys to see. i hope you guys enjoy!!! |

hey man, if you checked you wastegate and turbo and its working properly. them im almost 100% sure you got a leak somewhere. i was having trouble boosting a while back and i also tested for leaks and although i couldnt hear any i moved my hand around couplings and pipes and i felt a strong current of air coming from my BOV. and sure enough the o-ring connecting the bov to the bov flange wasnt sealing right. i bought a thicker o-ring and added silicone all around... and... shhhhassssam! im boosting normally..... i too was hearing a loud noise when i was spooling, but i didnt think it was a leak,...instead i was like: " man, this turbo spools loud..." lol and now that the leak is gone, my spooling is not as loud as before with the leak forgot to mention, i also tightened the arm on the internal wastegate a few more turns cause it was just snug..now its a bit tighter, to ensure a proper seal i hope this helps........ |

PROBLEM SOLVED! 2 things were wrong with my car: 1) i did a boost leak test and i had a major boost leak at my bov, i guess the o-ring wasnt sealing right. all this time i though the turbo was making a nice spooling sound, but instead it was a lot of air leaking through there lol o-ring was replaced...... 2) i removed the turbo and i checked how the gasket from the manifold matches up with turbo exhaust flange, and it turns out that the turbo had a bunch of metal that needed to be removed in order for the gasket to match... so i ported the opening to match the gasket and also ported my wastegate and polished the exhaust side to remove casting flaws. THE RESULT: I noticed a huge change in responsiveness, now that i reach full boost sooner; not only that but i got a smoother acceleration, i think this was due to the gasket matching on the turbo. And the best part is that i start boosting way sooner than before. By 3000 rpm im already at 5psi. and 11 at 3500 all the way to redline. i also noticed that my boost is more consistent thanks to the porting of the wastegate. no more boost creep at higher RPM's, and the boost spike i had in the mid 3k's is pretty small now... thanks guys for all your help, i hope some one can find some of this info helpful. |

i got a 5s turbo also, im using a safc2, 460 injectors, walbro 255, and a wideband o2. quick question, do you know if your map sensor is a 2 bar map? cause if its the stock sensor i hear they fall on their face around 5psi.... another thing you might wanna look into is checking the spark plug gap i read that is must be 0.30" cause you might get detonation around 5psi or so..... also, i had a similar issue with my car when i was tuning i would be building boost like 2 or 3 psi and then the car would stutter a bit, i noticed that my afr around the stuttering was really lean. and no matter how much fuel i added around that rpm it would stay lean, but at WOT i was having no issues only at part throttle. i got around that issue by disconnecting my primary o2 sensor.......my afr are a little better now. but definitely get your self a wideband, and check your injectors...... |

thanks guys for all the info. i guess ill just stick where im at, i'll maybe just upgrade the downpipe and smooth out the exhaust turbine for now. i guess spooling at 3000rpm isnt that bad, the car still fun to drive. what do you guys think about a t3t4 twin scroll turbo? i got one of those ebay headers with a ct26 twin scroll outlet followed by a t3t4 to ct26 adapter, just single entry and then the turbo. so if i ditch the adapter and get myself a twin scroll turbo, im sure ill be able to spool sooner. i heard twin scroll spool faster, so i was looking into that instead. another question: if i have a boost leak, would that cause the turbo to spool slower? i start building boost at 3000rpm, full boost (11psi) at 3800rpm, then i get a small drop to 8psi around 4200-4400 rmpm and then it goes back up to 11psi from 4500rpm until redline. |

im been wondering how to make my turbo spool faster, so i been searching a lot and all i find is junk. some say to port my exhaust inlet some say not to do it. other say so upgrade to bigger exhaust piping....... its confusing.. has anyone here actually tried doing something like that and notice any good results? i ask this because my turbo starts spooling at 3000RPM and i reach full boost (11psi) at around 3,800 rpm. i would like to reach full boost way before that.... i got a generic t3t4 .57 trim and i believe the exhaust side is .63 on my 94 gt, internal waste-gate w/ manual boost controller, 2 1/2" exhaust piping all help is appreciated |
