ok, so I guess I need to start talking to a RI and see what they charge to do all of the part swaps. I wonder if they would take another celica as a doner car for all the DOT parts?

I wanted to know if anyone has tried to import a GT FOUR. I am starting to look into it, and I know that you need to present the DOT with crash test data from a RHD car. Does anyone know if these tests have been done? I also know that I would have to make it conform to all our emisson standereds, and I am hoping I can use parts from a MR2 turbo to do this. If there is anything I am missing, let me know.

Thanks,

Stew

its different tail light stile or different car?

The 180sx (s13 hatcback) has 2 different sets of tail lights. The ones that looks the the UDM (the second pic) were made from 1989-1995. Starting in 1996, they switched to the tails in the first pic. As far as which motor came in the 180sx, in 1989-90 there was the CA18DET making ~175HP and then in 91 the put the SR20DET redtop making ~205HP. The 96 and newer 180SX came with the SR20DET blacktop which still made the same HP.

i dont like headlight conversions on our cars because they just dont go with the lines of it. im not saying that supra or curren headlights look bad; im just saying that they dont go with our cars. if you did a whole front end conversion it would look sweet.

this is all i could find:
3s-fe:
hp- 138@6000RPM
torque- 138ft-lbs@4400RPM

im not sure, but i would guess that the 3sgte turbo manifold would bolt on to it so you probably could turbo and run low boost without too much modification.

i think you would just have to get under the car and see if they are bent the same, but if i had to guess if it would fit i would probably say no.

I'm confused when you say that the GT-Four/Alltrac has too much lag due to power loss of the AWD setup. Is this turbo lag or what, its vague.

i think he is refering to the hp loss due to the fact that its AWD. any engine will have more whp in a 2wd than in a AWD setup.

i would either have a shop build you a custom box or buy a sub zero box (http://www.subzeromfg.com). 99% of all prefab boxes are JUNK!!! that are made out of particle board and will make your sub sound like sh!t.

EDIT - here is a better link to a box: Subzero 10" box

he is saying to leave the rear hooked up to the stock amp.

BTW nice advice coomer i was gonna tell him to look into the same stuff, but i dont know how a shiva would do in a convertible because it likes a big box and i dont know if there is room in there for one. other subs you could look at would be an image dynamics IDQ (a GREAT SQ sub for small boxes)

its not hard at all. i think it only took me 10 mins to change them once i had them off the car. you just unscrew a nut, then the old insert comes out and you put the new one in and tighten the nut.

i would take it to some different shops for more opinions. that looks like he is ripping you off. your wheel cylinders dont need to be replaced if they are not leaking. i am almost 100% sure he is trying to rip you off. i have been working on cars for 3 years now and have never seen a car need all those things at one time. he pretty much named every easy part to replace (he would make a TON of money on you car if you let him do it).

just out of curiousity, how would one know they need to replace the timing belt......

im hearing a clicking sound coming from the far left inside the engine block and i dunno what it is frown.gif

timing belt should be changed every 90,000 miles. the only way a timing belt could be making a clicking sound is if to has streched and is flopping against the timing cover, but that is unlikely.

if you dont know what you are doing then pay to have someone do it. if you have experence working on cars and have the tools to do the job then go for it. the biggest thing is that when you put the belt on, triple check the timing (it sucks to put it back togther and it not run). our engings are freewheeling which means that if you dont have it in time you are not likely to bend a valve. as far as what is needed to be done to replace it: remover your motor mount, remove valve cover, remove drive belts, remove water pump pully, remove balancer, and remove both timing covers. this is just off the top of my head so i may have left something out. you sould be able to do it in 1 weekend.
