oh man, I've met three of the Yelli Celi's owners over the decades. Came sort of close to buying it myself at one point. I think davenirish had mine for a bit before scrapping it.

The years have not been kind to that car. I always liked it, Where it a hatchback I'd really consider it.

Don't know about to 15' sti.

I'm a Multi subaru owner, (2001 2.5rs coupe + 2005 WRX) There great cars, the head gasket is true, around 100k and they need to be replaced which means pulling the motor resurfacing the heads and new studs but beyond that scheduled maintinance and there generaly problem free if you stay away from mods that is. I spun a bearing in my stage 2 wrx pushing it too hard but I picked up a new long block and dropped it in (was a much much easier swap them replacing the 5s in my celica.) my 2.5 is completely stock and has had only 1 issue (besides head gasket which was preventative done at 105k with the timing belt) the fuel pressure reg when out around 117k, pretty simple fix. (I've put 100k miles on it since I got it at 49k) Worst problem is the paint on the front bumper is thin, and rock chips add up. the 2.5 handels like nothing else, not as smooth a ride as the wrx but damn you can throw it into corners as hard as you want and it holds it. Driving the 2.5 for a while then hopping in the wrx makes it feel like a boat around the corners (though suspention mods can fix that, stock for stock is crazy.)

Hello, its very quiet around here now. I pop in once and while to see whats going on, lots of people have moved on. I see coomers old car running around every so often (no idea who owns it but someone near me does) needs some work, Mine is long gone. I also have a G35 now, can't blame celica people going that route there great cars. I still have the scoobs too.

99-01 impreza 2.5rs

Or a late 90's impreza outback. Throw some pencil beams on the front and a set of mudflaps. Rally machine.

The 2.5rs are pretty expensive (4-6k generally) and slow as crap. For that kinda money I'd look into a S13 or something.

I have a 01 2.5 rs stock (2dr coupe,) its a quick little car (slow as crap? you have never been in one), handling is great (better then my wrx.) I have put almost 60k on mine in the 4 years I've had it, no issues, regular maintanace only. I would highly recommend, well worth the bucks if you can find one! 4-6 k is not much at all for a reliable car. Not to mention they are amazing in snow.

as for the eclipse, a friend of mine has a mid 90's talon (same thing) fun car, sick car when fixed up but his motor went few months after he got it. There nice but a lot of work to keep it that way.

I would not consider an eclipse for a 1st car, a first car is suppose to be a beater and no thrills cheapo that can take some curbage and bumpage.

Sad, sounds just so far gone that its not really recoverable (would be easyer to start over on a stock 6gc) if you wanted something reliable anyway.

QUOTE
- Tag inside the door from DOT says the car has been inspected by State Patrol and has a rebuilt title - yet the actual title has no brands on it?

That does not really mean much, mine had a to be inspected by the dot when the first engine blew insurance comp. considered it a total loss but dot did not, I had the dot sticker but not a rebuilt title. (gray area between insurace and state)

QUOTE
- Owner prior to this guy "installed turbo pistons and cams" with no documentation
- Typical cam tick that 20V's do, but a little louder than I remember
- Burns a quart of oil every 800ish miles

Thoes are the killers, the rest is just looks.
