I've seen some nice looking carbon fiber and some nasty, faded, flimsy fiber.

It looks like the options are:
Seibon
ViS
Erebuni
Nopi (someone else relabelled?)

Can anyone testify to the:
1. Weave quality - tightness and squareness
2. Resin quality - clarity or fogginess and bubbles
3. Number of layers
of any of these parts? Thanks.

KYBs are stock. Your mounts even say KYB on them. But since your car is 13 years old, a replacement is a big upgrade.

If you're asking about struts in conjunction with springs, racey suspension gives you a stiffer ride. It keeps your tires on the ground when changing speed (accellerating, cornering, etc.). Better springs and struts will let you throw your car around more - depending on your tires.

If you're asking about the benefits of struts compared to springs, I'm not sure. They work in parallel and it's a mechanical engineering question to ask which is more effective at maintaining stiffness, damping, etc.

But since they're both cheap and both in the same place, it's a good idea to do both at the same time. However your stock springs will last a long time. Your struts are probably shot by now.

Threadjacker! Backspacing is the distance from where the wheel mounts on your hub to the wheel half-width.

Yeah, it's a weird measurement. Tirerack has a great tech article about it. But basically it tells you how far in or out your wheels will be, since wheels all have different widths.

Any buildup should disappear after your first hard brake. Generally if you leave your car sitting the rotor metal will rust, but it'll all disappear the first time you brake. The sound going away when you brake hard is consistent with the wear indicator.

Check your pads, if this is new to you see the photo below. The object on the right is the caliper with two pads that have about half an inch of thickness left. If there's not much pad between the metal plate and your rotor, you definitely need to replace the brakes. And that should fix your noise problem.

I'd be even more elated if someone has 215's or wider, perhaps with an offset near 40mm...

Good news it's not shaking, no warped rotors of messed up calipers.

If it's just a noise, check your pad thickness. On most pads, the clip that holds them in scrapes the rotor when they're worn down. It's the "replace me" noise.

Can I have a witness that 215/40-17 wheels/tires (or larger) will work on a 94/1.8/liftback with 1" drop (or lower).

What a busted boot looks like.

Raybestos STS rotors and pads. The rotors warp like an army man under a heat lamp.

I was changing tires and noticed my cv boot was toast. What's more my p.o.s. Raybestos rotors are warped so I figured I'll go for the twofer.

Bottom line is, I have 240,000 mi and might as well drop my tax return on replacement parts. A knowledgable friend said do the half-shafts too. I'm considering:
-Bearings
-Sway bars
-CV joint
-Brake lines
-..?

I did the springs and struts recently. There are plenty of posts on each of these components separately, I'm curious what you all would recommend doing and not doing while I'm already in there.

Yeah, if I wanted real bright I woulda gotten Luxeon LEDs, but that's a little overkill. I don't want people who see my car at night to get headaches. Then again...

I'm in it (with leds) for the quick rise/fall time, low power consumption, and bulb longevity.

Considering putting some smoke tint on them. 5-led ambers from superbriteleds.com. Got the clear signals too, but they don't fit the 94 front end. Grrr.

It was 8th street in Del Mar. The swell died a little bit through the morning, I only shot them after I went out myself.

But back on topic, as an alternative to spending money training cops to be like Paul Walker, I say Sacramento should supply cheaper, more accessible race tracks for the masses. Driving 3 hours to Buttonwillow to spend 150 for track time sounds mildly appealing, but if I could do it here for 50 I'd be there every weekend.
