It's all good. I see where you were coming from. And the more information, the better. So i'll get up what i can with the 7a swap.

I think the OP wanted to know what pieces would have to be transferred from block or head to another block or head. Being from obd I to obd II or vise versa. Well having information of differences between obd I and obd II as well as differences between 2 obd II 7afe's sounds good to add into this thread to ME. Thank you for the good input, and when I do this swap I will try to add some more information that I find. As for the oil leak it's coming through the engine, it's done it for a while and progressively getting worse, so I don't think it's going to just go away and even if it does i'd much rather have an engine that doesn't do that and hasn't done that. My head was gone through about 120k miles ago and the bottom end has 273k miles on it. I think it is time for another one. Eventually i'll be getting rid of everything and turning this into an "all-trac" celica with a suby ej25 (?) platform. I know it'll be alot of work and alot of torching, welding, drilling, wiring, etc. So knowing as much about this car as i can is kinda useful. But back on topic i'll see if i can find the differences and get pictures and post them. Thanks again.

Also the current engine is blowing out alot of oil. Going through about 1 qt every 500 miles. I don't know if it's the piston rings that are going bad or the valves. In either case I'd much rather do a quick swap instead of spending weeks or months building the current engine and finding oversized bearings and boring and honing and all that fun stuff.

Sorry, i didn't mean to thread jack. But i'm sure this topic could use more information than what's here. Why would i waste money on gaskets to swap things that don't need to be swapped? i.e. throttle body, intake manifold, egr, injectors, fuel pressure regulaor, valve cover etc... Does that make sense? Can anyone post the differences between the 2 cars/engine's? Any useful information before this thread get clustered with arguments?

Edit- And i'm going to try using the block, and head, so basically complete engine minus sensor's and vacuum lines and other small things. This way i don't have to do new head gasket and make this alot more complicated swap.

Really?? Who would of thought of using the sensor's that go with the ecu? Especially the one's that don't match? ....People are getting smart :0 Haha anyways.... Who know's if I can pull the ecu from the corolla and use it as a back up? Or what the difference is between the map sensors? And what else is different between the 2 cars? Am I going to have to eliminate any sensors that may be on the corolla? Do I need to wire in any sensors that didn't come on the celica? And please, if you have no useful information, don't post. I'd rather not read a bunch of ****. Isn't this a tech forum? And yeah I know i could go through an fsm and figure this out all on my own....not hard. But then what would be the point in this site? :-) -thanks

Read? What's that? And where in the earlier posts does is state the complications, if any, of doing an obd II 7afe into another obd II 7afe? Please enlighten me smile.gif And going from the same chassis is an obvious given that everything should work (depending on year), But i'm looking at an engine coming out of a corolla and going into a celica. Just in case some of you forgot or can't read earlier posts smile.gif

Edit. So to ask question into simple terms... What differences are there between the obd II 7afe in a 1996 toyota corolla vs. an obd II 7afe in a 1996 toyota celica? I noticed the map sensor is different. What problems would I have with that? Can i just use my map sensor? I think I can but I know there someone on here that's done this a time or two that has some pretty useful info that'll help alot. Thanks.

I'm looking to do a swap. The donor car being a 1996 Corolla 7afe. The car it will be going into is a 1996 Celica that already has the same 7afe. I haven't looked too much at the coroll but i did notice the map sensor is a bit smaller and different, other than that things look the same. I get work release from jail everyday so i'm lookin to get this all done in 1-2 days. I've done a few engine swaps and builds so i'm wondering what problems i'm going to have that anyone knows of before i start at it? I know i could play around and take my time and read an fsm on both but kinda short on time. Thanks
