no boost, not a gte
just a ge (st202)

when i bought the thing, the people that had it before me had it advanced all the way kindasad.gif
so i brought it back a bunch, then recently got around to setting it correctly..... but i can tell the difference now.

the title says it all. my timing was advanced some random amount, then I "corrected" it...
well, I don't like it as much now that its right.
what's a reasonable amount of advance on this motor, without going overboard?
thanks!

just for reference:

when my car was cold it used to surge between 1800 and 2100 rpms.

problem ended up being throttle position sensor (in my case.)

3s-ge 3rd

and to reiterate: having a 3rd gen 3s-ge in the states is such a ****ing hassle. you can't get parts without jumping thru a million hoops, and they cost way more then they're worth.

it's a good motor, but a giant pain in the ass.

22270-74060 (note to self, as i'm not at home)

QUOTE (Rusty @ Dec 8, 2011 - 7:57 PM) *
You 'need' to buy one?

22270 VALVE ASSY, IDLE SPEED CONTROL (FOR THLOTTLE BODY)
22270-74210 (09/1993 - 11/1997) 1 $437.99

specific to all Japanese 3rd gen 3S-GE's

that looks like the entire TB? is that correct? i just need the iscv, and possibly the sensor. the dangley bit under the TB. still probably 350 ish.

QUOTE (richee3 @ Dec 8, 2011 - 2:35 PM) *
You're making it too complicated for yourself. It doesn't matter what car the motor came out of. The throttle body is the same, therefore the ISCV is the same. So just follow the link posted earlier to get a part number and you're all set.

Awesomeness, that's what i needed to know.

no, you misunderstand. i need to know the make and model of the car that this motor came out of.... if there's a way to determine that.\

see, that link is for a 1994 st202, which is totally possible, but i don't know that for sure.... and i think i need to.

i have a 3s-ge 3rd gen swapped into my car here in the states, and i need to buy a iacv, but i'm not sure which one to get because i have
no idea what year, or even car this could possibly have come out of.

is there any way to find that out so i can order the part.
(which i will have to order from over seas......)

thank you!

p.s. it's mated to a 5 speed, which i'm assuming came with the motor, but i don't in fact know that)

i bumped it up to 1100 b/c of the stalling, which i shouldn't have done purely from a diagnosis standpoint.
(two changes at once)

well......

my car was doing this "occasional stall when warm thing" and that's what brought this on.

and i changed the col temp sens, and cleaned the eicv and the problem *seems* to be gone.

at idle, or at a light waiting the thing would just die with no warning and wouldn't restart for a time, but then the f*kn thing would start right up like nothing was wrong.

still don't get it, but *maybe* i got it with blind faith.

also, i turned up the idle so that when it's warm and idling correctly it idles at about 1100 instead of 900.
may have something to do with it too.

hmhmhmmhmhmhmhn...
don't know.

did the coolant temp sensor just because it was easy and only 20bucks.
still idles weird, but sounds a little a little different to my ear, maybe just my imagination.

the temp gauge still bottoms out occasionally, so i hope i don't have a short....
but i probably do, because it tends to bottom out if i stomp on the gas in neutral, then it pops back up.

weirdness.

cleaned the iacv again just for the heck of it, no help.

idle fluctuates when cold. steady when warm but sometimes at 900, others it will stay at 1800.

he asked about parts for 3s-ge, and you suggested he look out of country. i've had no luck finding a location in the uk/nz whatever to purchase parts.

could you (or any one) please suggest a reputable dealer, parts sight, whatever....

thanks
