Great info here. My starter had just over 100k when it began momentarily hesitating every so often when I would turn the key. Over the course of several months, it finally sometimes took dozens of tries to finally get the solenoid to engage. Heard the "click" when turning the key but no immediate starter engagement. Bought new contacts and plunger for just under $25. Removed the starter, cleaned, installed new contacts and plunger, reinstalled starter, all cleaned up and tools put away just over an hour. Didn't even have to get under the car. Did it all from the top. After inspecting the old plunger, I realized I could have cleaned up the contact surface and reused it. Woulda saved me $16 but that's ok. I guess I feel a little bit better for installing a new plunger along with the contacts. Love this forum. '94 ST hatchback 300k original miles |

I can get a good cruise control system from another 94 ST 5sp at the junk yard but can I make it work on mine? All the components seem easy enough to install but what about the wiring? Do I need ALL the wiring from the donor car? Anyone out there ever do this? |

I always take mine down to E and always calculate my mileage when I fill up. All stock 94 St with 240k miles. I have never needed a fuel pump and ain't worried about it at all. Honestly, how many electric motors do you folks know of that have seized because of not being submerged in a liquid? I'm thinking like ZERO! I do wish I could get over 30 mpg. 40+ sounds ludicrous. |

I have 2 igniters and a distributor (minus the ignition coil and igniter). Both igniters work as well as both pickup coils and condenser in the distributor. Distributor bearing is good. All came from running vehicles. $30 for an igniter, $35 for the distributor. Free shipping. I have pix if interested. |

Finally found it. Using Haynes manual, I went through all of their tests on the ignition system and everything checked good. After two weekends of troubleshooting and junk yard parts searching/swapping, I found no problems. I then turned to All Data and discovered the Haynes manual, along with Autozone website, had incorrect ohm value for the coil test. Coulda had the car fixed the first hour had I just used All Data from the beginning. Replaced the coil. Car started right up. Anyone need a good Igniter or distributor minus the coil? Igniter $40, distributor with ignitor and pickups minus coil $75. Free shipping. '94 celica 7a-fe I believe these parts will also fit: '94-'95 Geo Prizm '93-'95 Corolla '94-'95 Celica |

Car died backing out of my driveway. Doesn't fire at all. Just turns over. Tried to pull trouble codes and discovered my check engine light bulb was burned out. Unfortunately, I had disconnected my battery looking for the no spark problem and apparently cleared the codes. Check engine light works great now except that it blinks contiuously which means no trouble codes detected. Plug wires are newish. New dist cap and rotor. Coil secondary and primary check good. Pickup coil checks good. Replaced igniter with junkyard igniter. Still no start. Anyone know a good ECU test or anything else? |
