First off, if on a budget, look into Profile for an amp. Cheap power and solid amps.
Profile

For subs, I'd get one Alpine Type R or Infinity Perfect. Sounds like you are looking for some SQ.
Type R
Perfect

GET RID OF YOUR EXPLODES, very bad coaxials. I'd get some CDT CL-6X's, or maybe some Infinity Reference coaxials.
CDT's
Infinity Reference

Don't forget this:
Wiring Kit

Box: Ebay, 1.0ft^3, Bigdog Audio.

Headunit: If on a budget, go JVC. Maybe a lower pioneer or alpine.

3/4" Novaply, many prefer it over MDF. It has no harmful chemicals in it, it is a bit lighter, and cheaper. 16$ a sheet here, where as MDF is 21$.

I never said A-bahns subs are under-rated........their subs are VERY over-rated.....my old alumQ was fine with 400w when I first got it. A-bahn rates their RMS on their subs in very small enclosures. Cut RMS in half on all a-bahn subs.

Awesome amps though smile.gif

Whoa whoa........a-bahn amps are UNDER-RATED....you heard me......suprizing huh around 50-100w?? Decent amps......too bad you can't look at them cause you get blinded by the chrome......

edit: I gave my old alum10q 750w and it is 800w RMS......took it just fine. Sealed though....

There SVC 4ohm, so wire them in parallel to achieve a 2ohm load and get 1 600w amp. Mono.....like a JBL 600.1

First off, the scratching you heard is your HU clipping...very bad, turn it down. Try turn down the bass going to the speakers in your car...that may help the clipping.

Sony HU's are "OK" but everything else they make SUCKS. If you think anything sony sounds good, you haven't heard a REAL system. Yes it is budget, but I bet you I could get a better sounding system for the same or cheaper price than what you paid.

But since you already have the subs.....give each sub 300w that should last a month or so smile.gif

Woohoo you can set off car alarms and get pulled over.....I could do that with my old 10" smile.gif

I don't believe in breaking in subs myself......useless. Just don't push pass max excursion and your fine.

It's your ears....if you listen to a loud system everyday for a month, and then stop listening for 6months......listen to the same system and it will be twice as loud......

I remember the stroker days.....those days are gone smile.gif........

Stay away form MB quart Coaxials......fukin too BRIGHT. Damn tweeter.....

Forget the 3-4 ways, not needed. You need a solid 2-way coaxial.

for the cheap route, Infinity Reference, NOT kappas.....kappas have that damn metal tweeter, too bright, like the MB quarts. The references has the silk tweeter which is much better IMO.

I'd get some CDT's if it were me......cheap and NICE coaxials.....one of the best i've heard.

for 100-300$ i'd get some componets if it were me........

Take Audiobahns rated RMS power, take a 1/3 off of it and that's what their true RMS is. A-bahn rates there subs in SMALL sealed boxes.....

I'd personally get 3 alumQ series subs.......alot better, twice as much $. Awesome subs, they only a-bahn subs worth a damn to me....they actually have "some" SQ......and they love both sealed/ported.

RF, Kenwood, Sony, Pioneer, and the other main brand names are over rated.

How is RF overrated??? Over-priced....but not underrated. Amps do rated power and then some. Subs get LOUD, but don't sound too good smile.gif

Pioneer is not overrated either, good budget equipment.

Sony/kenwood, yes is crap.

What are you powering Drocay?

Check out cadence, zapco, JL, and arc amps......

Are your subs DVC 4ohm or SVC 4ohm?????

If they're SVC 4ohm, that amp is perfect.

You won't get as much output as being in the rear, but it will sound better. Waste of time IMO. And mounting depth is not your friend.

Also, what about your mid range??? You need some mids up front or your sound stage will suffer......

It's not gonna be the same without subs. My subs cut out the other day.. noticed the difference.

well I hope so wink.gif

JBL GTO series coaxials have some impressive bass for what they are.

Thanks for the info guys!  Lets assume that I am not going to be adding anymore amps then I should technically be ok with 8G and assuming that I use 8G and its not enough in terms of power handling, what will happen?  Blow fuse or "fire" wire  biggrin.gif

8ga should be fine. Just use the right size fuse and make sure it's as close to the battery as possible. (Less than 18"). The fuse is there to protect the wiring not the amp. The reason to keep it close to the battery is in the event of an accident if the battery moves or the wire is cut there will be less chance of dead shorting the battery.

Or catching the car on fire biggrin.gif

You will NOT have an audible difference with 400w between 8 and 4 gauge. It is nice to have 4ga. for a bigger install in the future though.

awesome! thank you...
i little disappointed to hear solo barics are not considered good, i heard they were...

i only have 1 more q, but i have a final in an hour. i have to study

Wait a sec, I didn't say L7's are bad, they just have moderate at BEST sq.

It's hard to get louder than an L7 for the same amount of money. L7's are loud, but don't buy them for a SQ install........

Uhm, you explained why less power is worse yourself in the second post you made-

It's simply that you're more likely to damage the sub when you're using an underpowered amp.

Install error kills subs, kids crank the gain knob with both underpowering and overpowering subs. But when gains set right, more power is worse.

WHY will a sub be more damaged when underpowered then too much power?????

You still haven't answered that question. And no I didn't look it up, its common sense.
