Personally it looks so much better with the blocks. The rear is kinda boring otherwise, all business in the front.
Black blocks, GT-FOUR letters in red ( I sell them tongue.gif ) to go with the theme.. mmm smile.gif

kinda agree - currently really liking spoiler less on mine (pic below) but only because the rear is interesting with the varis - stock and it would need the wing I think

Absolutly love my rev3 3sgte in my fwd celica. however, coming from the uk, would have made far more sense to buy a gt4 in the first place, and could have with what I spent in the end. Mine def torque steers, you have to be on it to drive it! Do use e56 gearbox with lsd, so prob makes that worse (though very good box to use).

Doing it again, would def just get a GT4, but as say, do love my fwd turbo, it's just a bit crazy to drive!

Have exactly the same issue. Think it's a weak actuator, a manual boost controller allows me to set boost at 14 psi all the way across, so guessing new actuator at some point!

Mine's actually worse, about 7psi. Thought i had a ct26 first of all, maybe have a ct26 actuator for some bizarre unknown issue!

Can you not do a complete loom swap including ecu and sensors, or is there issues with that then? Deleting the aircon first.

Just an update, e56 now in and drive shafts are thicker, car "feels" more aggressive, whether this is due to confidence or the fact the power is going down better not sure smile.gif has got lsd so that could explain too. Or am just imagining lol

Do seem a good matxh (3sgte and e56) if you can get one. Assumedly with an e series I can use a gt4 clutch straight ?

Ive been using the st205 stock engine with a s53 for 2 years and its held up except I blew the engine. Upgraded to s54 now and engine is almost done being rebuilt so I'll see what happens in the future with this lol.

thanks, not sure why mine is getting through the driveshafts, like I say, sure I have read these can hold the power normally. Maybe just not had luck with second hand parts.

However.....just paid for an E56 smile.gif so hopefully that will be strong enough to hold it, plus some LSD.

Hi guys. Lot more experience with 3sgte swaps over here I believe smile.gif

Mine went in, and initially was using a s54 box with SSI drive shafts. These got destroyed, the drive shaft box end had massive movement after a couple of months of not super hard driving. Took out the s54 as well

I bought a e56 plus shafts, but unfortunately this was non-working (only 3rd gear!).

Another S54 went in, with more drive shafts, this time ones from a 3sge. One spirited hard drive and the drive shafts went again. More driveshafts going in so drivable, and no thrashing for a moment.

Now, looking for a e56 with stronger drive shafts, know that's needed (for the LSD as well).

HOWEVER....anyone been running the 3sgte with the normal s54 box and shafts, and has it been holding up any better ? Or are these just too weak. Sure I have read the standard box being used, including on 5sftes, and holding the power.

Be interested to hear your experiences.

I used 2.25" pipes, and kept the fogs (post face lift though). Drivers side just goes under front and up behind the radiator, passenger side goes through where the air box was, under the fuse box and into engine bay. Will try to find pictures from my build.

Did not need to remove anything, including air con.

edit - not sure if I am allowed to post this, sorry mods if not and please delete.

I kinda have used the search, but was after an answer for an idot if anyone can help.....

3SFTE is out (after blowing cylinder 3.....) and 3sgte rev 3 going in! A mechanic, not my self, is doing the swap, and has encountered the fuel pump issue...i.e. it won't work!

He knows the faff has a relay for it's fuel pump, which my 3sfe lacks. Assuming the 5sfe is the same, can anyone explain simply (to me) how this is sorted out ?

Using rev 3 3SGTE, with rev 3 loom, and have the faff fuel pump relay. Not sure where the 3sfe fuel pump is coming off, guessing same as 5sfe ?

Thanks for any help at all! Everything is looking brilliant!

So glad I seen this thread, Ive just ordered a new front bearing unaware there was differences. I went to fit it and noticed the new one measured 74.3mm whilst mine was 80mm OD.

Been panicing for 3days now trying to source one, atleast now im a step closer. If anybody is in the UK could point me in a direction would be a massive helping hand.

TCBparts will do them http://www.tcbparts.co.uk/suspension.htm#C..._205_GT4(Model) , next day delivery too. Toyota specialists, and know the GT4s very well, so will be able to help I am sure.

4 rx7 injectors, part number 195500-2010, 460cc. Bought these for my 3sfte project, but have now bought a 3sgte engine so not going to fix them. Look in good condition, but did not use them and bought them 2nd hand from ebay.

Looking for £50, based in the UK but will post abroad but may need to add postage (would need to check how much) plus you may get import fees depending.... On ebay as well, but at £50 starting bid, so happy to sell here and close the auction to those that may want them.

Pictures below.

NOW SOLD

having done this (though with a 3sfe), would say brilliant way to get to know your engine and how to tune them, but if I was about to start again would do a 3sgte swap. DOn't regret it though smile.gif And prob will 3sgte it at some point, having learnt a lot.

Thanks for the info...

Tuning: Once the full throttle on-boost tuning is sorted, the low-load regions can be fine tuned. Resulting in better driveability and mileage and better turbo response.

Tuning is ultra safe at mo, fuelling no issue (over if not less) and ignition pulled for safety, so there are areas of moving back there.

Exhaust after turbine: This will greatly effect the response of the turbine. The turbine would achieve maximum response and efficiency with the downpipe and all exhaust removed completely. A restrictive enough exhaust will actually reduce the amount of boost your turbo can make in total, with a corresponding hit to response!

Have 2.5" exhaust with sports cat, so don't think it would be that....

Turbo center section: The turbocharger's bearing. This should be in good condition before judging the response of the turbo. Otherwise it's like judging a restaurant by tasting a week-old doggybag from the fridge.

THIS^^ Second hand ct26 thrown on, doesn't smoke but providence unknown.... may well be crappy and that's the reason, thinking of reconing or going for a replica to see.

Charge piping and intercooler: Generally, yes the compressor will fill up any arrangement of pipes, couplers, bends and cooler core. But these volumes can be optimized for the sake of turbo response

Clocking the turbo would give me a better route

QUOTE (Syaoran @ Dec 9, 2013 - 7:47 PM) *
As you see, it does have similar power, but don't just look at the power, look at the RPM it makes that power. The 5SFE makes its peak at 5400RPM while the 3SFE makes it at 6000RPM which means it likes revving higher than the 5S, which is better for turbocharged applications, in terms of power.

However the 5S-FE will spool the same turbo faster and make more torque.

having no experience of the 5sfe, I can say (any boost leaks not withstanding which may be clouding my view) my 3sfte does suffer from turbolag more than I expected, however when in higher revs becomes a very fun car to drive, 5.5 to 6k and it feels quite alive, boost is kicking in big time, etc.

However....I am thinking the 5sfte may be more fun if boost is coming in lower and easier. Though it does mean I can easily drive my 3sfte off boost, and still actually enjoy it. Just have to "work" for boost with it (though 2 or 3psi going up hills kicks in quickly and makes accelerating up them easier!)

Very interesting, digs. I'm glad you posted this here. Without alot of first hand experience, I consider the 3sfe an underrated engine. I think it's a good engine for the type of thing you have here. That is to say an iterative, homemade turbo system. Or as it is often reffered to: "Slap A Turbo On It".

thanks smile.gif interesting the differences between the 5sfe and 3sfe actually, pretty much the same bhp basic (135 5sfe I believe vs 138 3sfe) so turbo power should be similar ? its not the best engine so sod it and give it a go smile.gif To be fair not sure why the 2.2 has similar bhp to the 2 litre 3sfe ? Would have thought the 5sfe should have more.Certainly my 3sfe is later model than the earlier 3sfes, direct ignition and a different ecu.

Just about to fit wilwood 4 pot fronts and gt4 rears, to add some braking goodness.

edit: some engine stats, 5sfe slightly less bhp but more torque

3S-FE
1998cc. 9.5:1 compression ratio.
136 bhp (138PS) @ 6000 rpm
137 lbft @ 4400 rpm.

5S-FE 93-01
compr.: 9.5:1 displ.: 2162cc
135 hp (101 kW)@5400 rpm
145 ft·lbf (196 Nm)@4400 rpm
