Wanting to see if there is any interest in the New England area for my beloved project that I must part ways with. Before I go listing all the goodies just know it was an automatic and has been converted using e153 from a '99 solara. Body has 170k, engine refreshed at 160k (bearings, rings, seals, etc.) 3sgte oil pan installed. At this time not willing to part. 90% complete 5sfte build. Please PM me with questions. Email may be faster 6gchaos@gmail.com Thanks |

I cant see your pictures, yes the master cylinder is a hard line to the firewall. then it turns into a rubber line, then back to a hard line that is secured to the trans all the way to the slave cylinder. Read my thread on how to remove the 5S from the car. i have pics detailing this. sry didnt realize the pic thing cuz it shows up on my computer i'll work on that, its some kind of block with the hardline from the hose connection comming into it and then a 2nd hardline going out to the slave on the e153. wasnt sure wat it was or if I could/should bypass it QUOTE you didnt search hard enough. there is plenty of information on here. you need a 5S flywheel and clutch. you need the clutch disk to have the E153 hub. Southbend clutch has this part on the shelf. just call them, talk to john or andy and they will hook you up. dxdracingclutches.com I stand corrected on this one I think I was just reading it 2 fast.. called Southbend n they quoted me over $370 for the clutch kit, I'm thinking I'd be better off just biting the bullet and getting a 3s flywheel and clutch so when I blow this thing up I can swap to a 3s QUOTE no the flywheel does not have those small plates. it bolts right on the crank. thanks a bunch this helps a TON |

havent made a build thread yet but I will.. but in the mean time lookin for some clarification on a couple things. Trying to go e153 - 5sfte while converting from a 97 auto gt. First, can somebody tell what this thing is for: ![]() It looks like the plate its attatched 2 is in the way of the mount but not sure if I can just hard line it all the way to the slave cyl. Second, can somebody tell me what im missing to connect the clutch master to these hardlines? I have a cut off hardline comming out of the master and a cut hose on the tranny, does the stock gt clutch line come out of the master as a steel line and crimp into the hose part or is there some kind of junction I'm missing?? Third, I've been trying to search for clutch/flywheel combos but almost everything I find is e153 to a 3s, or 5sfte to s54, with the exception to the fidanza flywheel 3s clutch kit do I have any other options? The cheaper the better as this def a budget build for now. I've read people talking about the st165 flywheel but that confuses me because I thought that was 6 bolts I def have 8. I can get a stock 5s flywheel for fairly cheap so wishful thinking hopes theres a combo for me. And fourth, Does the 5spd 5s need any type of spacer/washer things like the flexplate uses? on my 5s there are 2 small spacer things that sandwich the flexplate so not sure if I should transfer those. Thanks in advance Mike |

I got an e153 from a 99 Solara a few years ago, and between the hassle of sourcing mounts and axles, and the fact that my power goals have shifted I think I'd be better off with the stock gt trans. looking to see if any body local in the new england area would be interested in a trade. I have an aftermarket new passenger side axle and an act clutch disk (i gotta dig it outta storage for the number) included in the trade. I have most of the parts for a 5spd conversion on my 97 auto, just need gt axles and the mount. Figured I'd check here before I shell out the cash for a junkyard trans |

In case anybody ends up with the same question, after even more searching(this time on mr2oc) it seems this will work as there isnt much difference in length... I'm not sure about fitment of the piston as the 3s rod seems thicker at the top of the small end, guess I'll find out when I get there |

I know this has been talked about somewhere and I'm sorry to bring it back up. YES I used the search feature, I've spent the last 2hrs back n forth and on google searching and just can't seem to find the info I need. Hope this is the right section for this: I was looking for the info on 3s rods and how they fit with 5s pistons. Eventually I was leaning toward a 5sgte, so I have 3s rods, but seem to have developed a rod knock and I'm not ready for the build, so was wondering if I get the crank taken care of now could I get by with 3s rods and stock 5s pistons in my 5sfe? I feel like this has been covered with info on the new stroke & compression numbers, but all I can seem to find is info on using the "ge" head. I'll be doing the work myself (minus machining) so this seems like the cheaper option for me atm. Thanks for any replies. |
