This being a 4th gen 3sgte, is there an easy way to do that? Is taking it apart to clean it out something i can do at home? |

Looks like motor oil, which with my very limited knowledge of turbos is the only liquid present in the turbocharger. Good luck with it. Right, but I'm not sure it should be blowing out like that. It was pretty "dewy" here this morning so I'm hoping it was condensation. More concerned about the tape it might have sucked in. Any thoughts? |

So I've been trying to get my car running for a while now after an aborted swap from my local shop. Finally got it to a point where I could test fire the engine at least today. Well, guess what idiot forgot to remove the tape from the turbo inlet that was protecting it from metal shavings while I put in hood latches, THIS GUY!!! So here are the results of that test fire, and a pic of some sort of fluid coming up out of said turbo also, which I need help identifying. ![]() ![]() |

So I've been working on getting the special back in shape after it's horribly long and useless stay at the mechaninc's shop. Since I'm waiting for a new EFI relay and some money to buy the stuff for the belt and everything else I decided to put the hood latches in. So guess who forgot to take into account the effect the curvature of the hood would have on the alignment of the pins with the catches!! THIS GUY. ![]() Not a huge deal, just have to move the pins over a bit, but still very frustrating having spent all morning working on it trying to finish. |

UPDATE!!! So, turns out my mechanic has been stringing me along for quite a while now, either not doing things he said he was or doing them wrong. Car is back in my possession now. The mechanic kept claiming the wiring harness was bad, but he just didn't know what he was doing. Now thanks to a lot of help and guidance from mr220v it is nearly running now. Not only did he do a great job on the harness, but his knowledge and willingness to help out beyond just making it has been amazing. Still a lot of work to do to get it on the road, but it's a lot closer now than it would be if it were still sitting in the shop. Will post some pics/vids once I get it fully up and running. |

I find myself in a sudden desperate need for a gen 4 3sgte ecu. The one that came with my swap has disappeared from the shop doing the swap. If anyone has a line on one, or knows of a substitute that can be used please PM me! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! Never mind. They found it!!! Someone put it in a "safe" place, and we all know how that works. |

Finally time for an update!! Wiring harnes has been made thanks to MR220v of the MR2 boards and the special is currently up on a lift at the exhaust shop. Boost gauge, fuel pump, and a couple odds and ends still need to be installed. Hopefully no more hiccups and I'll be up and running within a week or so. Got a dual outlet cherry bomb turbo muffler they're putting on, walbro fuel pump to go in, and intercooler piping for the CX Racing FMIC. 3" pipes from cat-back and 3"FMIC, all sorts of good stuff. |

I know I own a 6gc when I contemplate asking a complete stranger for a ride in theirs since mine's been in the shop for 4 months with my swap stalled out. It's almost done now though!!! |

The mechanical parts are the same as it would be with swapping in a 3rd gen. Its the wiring that usually gets people. But i think Dr. Tweak does a conversion harness so yea that could be a possible route. Also why the 4th gen yo? Its kinda known that the rods are kinda weak compared to the 3rd gen version. Tweaks is pretty pricey. Found a guy on the MR2 boards that does it for about half the price. Will find out shortly whether or not the work is as good as Tweaks is supposed to be. Man, the special's been out of commission since March and it's almost all done. The suspense is killing me!! |

3rd gen from an st205 is what you want, if you want to have a pain free swap. You also have to remember that there is more money involved than just the cost of the engine. You want to have around 3-4k in hand before you start buying an engine. Things like exhaust work, misc gaskets, fluids, clutch, broken parts, tools you never knew you needed...quickly add up. Stay away from the mr2 engines. While they are technically the same, you are asking for a headache as the wiring harness is totally different along with a bunch of misc brackets and things. Read the stickies and do some searching. This info has been covered a lot of times before on this forum. Totally this ^^. 4th gen 3sgte ran me just over 1800 after shipping. All combined work including a FMIC, 3" exhaust, new muffler, yadda yadda yadda, total cost on this build for me will end up a bit over 4K or so. But that includes an extra tranny swap after running into issues with tranny that came with and some other custom work I'm having done. So yeah, at LEAST 3K. And maybe some extra for unforeseen circumstances. |

FYI if this came with a st215 swap this is an e153 and LSD I'm running one in my car right now That's what I had thought originally also. Is there any way to know for sure? I had posted about it elsewhere and a couple different people kept telling me it was the e56. |

Looking to get rid of what looks like an E56 transmission (at least that's the forum consensus), as well as a piece of axle that came with it. Asking $350 for both. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

wait a minute now! that bar in the diff is exactly what a 93+ MR2 turbo with LSD looks like. The axles for the E153 with LSD don't look the same, pretty sure they are different. Also, the bar is present in non LSD transmissions of almost every other sort. At least from the research I've done that's the way it works. Ended up bolting the 5SFE tranny back on with a new clutch for now. found a non LSD tranny for 300, but then comes the problem (financially at least) of making axles and getting the right shift cables. Anyone know if you can ONLY use the ST205 cables? Or are there other options? |

That is from E56 as mentioned earlier.. If you want to sell just that part left me know.. Non LSD Mr2 Turbo axles may work but will need to do some hybrid work.. I am ordering SS2 axles from overseas ..can find US Toyota parts to fit but only from piecing together axles That sucks. That's the only way I can avoid hybrid axles though isn't it? I'd still need hybrids if I switched to an E153? Really don't want to have to go with the S54 if I can avoid it. |

E56 i have same one. They pulled from a 3sge 3rd gen NA . Nothing from S54 will work on that gearbox as far as axles concerned.. It is basically a FWD ST205 gearbox but different internals Is there a way to determine that for sure? Do these things have stamps or plates or anything to identify them at all? This is driving me crazy, I'm about ready to just put my st204 tranny on to it instead. |
