Thats the plan. Although I'm just weighing prices and buying a manual one is just so much cheaper than doing the manual swap. I've toyed with the idea of nitrous and turboing. I mean if I dared turbo with an automatic trans I figure 4lbs of boost wouldnt hurt I would be going to a shop for the tune. If I blew it I'd probably use my car for parts and buy a manual 6gc. I mean the celica just handles better than a lot of other cars I've been in with comparable body style.

Lol I did the timing belt. Its running better after reseting the air fuel ratio. When doing the belt we quickly mixed up 2 plug wires had a terrible misfire at that point i dropped it off at a mechanic. They noticed my minor screw up called me up and said cars running good you just mixed up a spark plug wire. What my dumbass did not thinking I reset my airfuel ratio with the mixed wires not thinking AT ALL (I feel real dumb for that one) Had my teacher whose been ASE certified with toyota for 30yrs check my car out and drive it he said it drove perfectly in his experience with 6GCs. Im gonna assume my dumb mistake of setting it like that is what did it. Pretty happy as of now driving it. I just gotta keep her running decently until I can get my hands on a stick celica lol or find the time to do a manual swap but that scares me little too much haha

QUOTE (RabidTRD @ Sep 10, 2013 - 9:25 PM) *
Looks like you've got some rust in the same places as I do.

Yeah it was real bad. I spent about an hour and a half under my car sanding it and then bondoing it before I painted her black. I cant believe some kid in my automotive class had the nerve to call me a ricer.. Then again he called a stanced audi a4 and 20lbs boosted gti ricers too. Me and those other 2 kids are the only ones who work on our own cars. This kid claims to have a camaro but doesnt drive it to school. I hate kids who talk crap like that. My friends were tellin me I should just rig a co2 purge to my car and mess with him and never let anyone see under the hood of my car. Well atleast until I get my dealership sponsorship that pays decent then I can afford the 3sgte swap

Played with the dizzy. Reset air fuel ratio boom runs like a champ again. Drove it gentle to a gas station. Then filled up. Drove home and opened it up felt exactly how I remember smile.gif

NOOOOOO lol I know thats a big no no and a ton of work. I feel like its def the angle on the distributor because that is the only thing that was screwed around with. Like it doesnt run like absolute garbage it runs fine like Ive been able to push it too 100 no problems on the highway it just seems well a lot more sluggish than I remember. Ill have my friend come over with his timing light soon. Let me just stress it runs and drives perfectly (to a non aware sense) But only getting 50 miles out of a quarter tank is atrocious for this car. Im almost certain Im running VERY rich.

Yeah timing marks are perfect I had my family mechanic double check my work. I just dont want to bother him with my ignition timing when its something I can probably do myself. I mean it runs near perfect but it just doesnt feel right (Ive had it for 3 almost 4 years now) and the mileage is god awful maybe I should reset my airfuel ratio??

So in my timing belt ordeal I was playing the throwing parts at a problem game and switched out my ignition coil and never marked the position in dizzy was at. Got the timing belt done (eventually lol) Car sounds alright sometimes a misfiring idle. I got just about 240miles on my last tank. Before this I was getting like 320-360 on a tank doing deliveries. Im at a quarter tank and I have only put 50 miles of just driving to school and work not even speeding. I replaced my spark plugs after the timing belt plugs are essentially new put them about 2 months back. What exactly is the stock degree on a dizzy and how do I get to that. (1994 celica gt 5sfe)

So This is just the progress of my car it started off horrible. Fell in love with my car when I went to check it out had a cracked axle and 2 broke wheel bearings. Thing basically went off roading in an accident and had a cheap paint job. Started off white, then I plastidipped white paint over it (big mistake) sprayed the rims black, replaced a really bad fender, sprayed the rims black, lowered the car with eibach sportlines. Then sprayed her black added a lip nicer radio kicker 4 kicker speakers and mtx subs

Im starting my mechanic classes at school and I need to buy a 10mohm DVOM I dont want to drop crazy money for a fluke just yet because knowing myself Im gonna beat the hell out of this tool the couple years of school ahead of me. Id rather buy the expensive one after I'm certified etc.. So could anyone point me to a cheaper alternative that'll get the job done for now?? They really arent giving me a lot of time either so I gotta run to a store before my class tomorrow afternoon.

Edit: Czwalga I legit love you lmao! Did what you said car sounded perfect the idle cleared up. Now I wont be ashamed rolling into my mechanic classes barely able to hold an solid idle biggrin.gif

Timing belt was a true nightmare. BUT MY BABY LIVES AGAIN! I just need to replace my spark plugs I have a pretty bad misfire they are black from being fuel fouled so long, also do an oil change before I even think of actually driving it. But I dont even care right now I'm beyond happy. :')

I've never experienced a misfire before. But my friends timing light showed I was hitting TDC correctly. I'm not throwing any codes but I have a horrible misfire where the whole engine is bouncing pretty hard. I revved her a little bit and the car stalled (of course after I did my oil change) Timing light read correct after I played with the dizzy so is it safe to assume my problem is spark plugs because I pulled spark plug 4 and the damn thing was SOAKED with gas and black. I'm gonna buy some new plugs today after I squeeze a few hours of sleep in.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiW9zwgZdLQ vid of my car missing pretty bad. I tried getting close on spark plug wires and my intake the video doesnt do it justice for how violent the shaking is

I mean I've done it 5 times each time starting from the begining of a guide. I feel like the timing belt never actually slipped time it just looked bad thats my theory.. But can a timing belt issue cause all 4 injectors to stay open?

Or a possible Coolant Temperature Sensor? Ive read it will also flood out an engine.

Because even though the timing belt looked chewed up and needed to be replaced it wasnt the problem nor a solution. Because I mean I find it hard to believe all 4 injectors failing on me at once and not being a more catastrophic stall then what I had. My one friend who took a more diagnostic approach came up with this. I'm hopeful. Then I still have to play with the timing belt.

Took apart throttle body and discovered all injectors were flooding. Possibly my fuel pressure regulator? Causing my car to flood out and not start? Because I dont think my timing could be so far off that I cant even start the damn thing even if I was off timed it wouldnt be that bad. Its basically like my original problem is still back and my mechanic didnt look any further than just seeing a worn out timing belt and instantly assuming that to be it.

. Otherwise, you car will either not idle properly or more likely will not run at all. In this case, you'll need to rotate the crankshaft pulley 2 revolutions clockwise and back to the 0 degree mark. Make sure again it's at ± 0.5 degree tolerance. Recheck the hole on the camshaft timing pulley and see if it's aligned with the u-notch on the head. More likely it isn't which is why it isn't running normally. If it isn't, then we'll have to readjust it so that it is. So remove the negative terminal on the battery, put the tensioner pulley back in 'loose' and remove the timing belt from the camshaft timing pulley and make the necessary 1 or 2 tooth adjustments to bring the hole back in alignment with the u-notch. Put the tensioner pulley back in 'normal operation' mode, reconnect the negative terminal on the battery, and start it again.

Repeat this step again and again until the timing belt is correctly positioned and until the car idles normal. If you're lucky you could get it right the 1st time but for me, this took about 3 times before i got it down right to the right timing since my crankshaft turned while the timing belt was off so I had to narrow it back down to the right position.

I didnt remove them. all that was done was lining up the notch on the cam gear (all that i did to the cam gear) in the sticky the guy says something about 2 full rotations on the crank can anyone go into better detail about that?

Ive been screwing with this for 2 weeks now. Spark plugs sparking, and the stench of raw fuel.

I'm literally having the same problems as this guy but he has a camry (same engine 5sfe blah blah blah) http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/103-3rd-...eplacement.html
http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=90261&st=0 <--- this is where the story all began with me thinking it was an ignition coil which more than likely is what started this. The guy on toyota nation literally did everything I did and we are both having the same problem. He fixed his problem with a new cap and rotor which I'm considering doing now. the inside of the cap looks scraped up and rotor is slightly bent. My friend who graduated from mechanic school and now works in a shop is even stumped by this we've worked on my car the past 2 nights in a row following the timing belt sticky completely. We didnt follow it completely the first time around so we started from scratch tonight and did everything by the post. Back to damn square one. I mean my timing belt looked like garbage and needed to be changed regardless.. Like it really sounded like it wanted to start but just wouldnt go. Which brings me back to the camry guy on toyota nation where the only similarity that I can see causing this was messing with the distributor and royally screwing up the timing. my rotor is on spark plug one all the basic trouble shooting has been gone through.

i have the 5sfe engine. we found tdc using a long screw driver. we are going to take it apart again i realize losing tdc will cause an engine not to start but would that cause it to walk off the cam gear? im using a new spring that came in my gates timing belt kit the old one looked pretty rough.

So the entire belt is staying in place except for the cam wheel. Passenger side motor mount is taken out and a jack is holding it up just like in the sticky guide. No covers are put on yet its just open belt waiting to be put back together. crank pulley on as well for the one guide ring. Have to wait til tomorrow night to do more work any suggestions as to why its sliding off the cam? Its pretty damn tight. Still cranking and no start. My friend is coming back tomorrow night with a compression gauge. And we are gonna take it all apart again and make sure we are at TDC for sure.
