Please do not waste your time and money turbocharging the worthless 5sfe. Just swap in a 3sgte and enjoy a factory turbo engine that does not need piggbacks, standalones, tuning and a million other things to lighten your wallet and blow your motor up. We install GEN4 3sgte's in lots of Celica's and they drive beautifully just on stock boost (8-10 psi and 210 whp). The Celica does not have the traction for more power than that in the lower gears without a bunch of other upgrades. Keep it simple. Feel free to give us a call if you need help. Have a great day. Yes, you can use GEN3 GSC cams if you bolt on the GEN4 cam sensor trigger wheel. The question is why? GEN4 cams are great and not a power restriction until well north of 400 whp, at which point you are doing a full build and have entered a whole different ball game. Let us know if you have any other GEN4 questions. We invented the GEN4 swap for MR2s and build over 50 GEN4 cars a year. www.primemr2.com. Have a great weekend. |

The 2ZZ is worthless and weak. We put GEN4 3sgte's into a bunch of 6 gens. They are awesome and a great value for dollar since they don't require a lot of parts to work in the 6 gens. If you are interested check us out at www.primemr2.com. Have a great day. |

Yea I have a wide band an it's max rich an it's coming out of the exaust! Open your ECU and check for blown capacitor. This has happened to us before. Try swapping out the ECU to check real easily. We had a bad capacitor and one of the injectors was getting pegged open by the ECU. Swapped ECUs and job done. Good luck. Let us know if you need anything GEN4. It's what we do. www.primemr2.com. |

Yes, Richee3 is correct. An MR2 E153 is absolutely pointless in a 5sfe powered anything. But especially a front wheel drive car when the E153 is designed for a rear drive car like the.... ahem.... Mr2. where did you get that from, you cant possibly be any more wrong. the E153 came in the Camry and Solara. those are both FWD. its a good trans with tall gears so it has low RPMs in 5th. Sorry, I guess I was unclear. I was saying that it is not an efficient use of money putting an E series transmission in when the only benefit is lower rpm while cruising. We run S series transmissions on 300 whp MR2 turbos with no issues. The only reason our customers change to E series transmissions is to hold more power. I should have been more clear in my language. As for a better use of money, just swap a 3sgte drivetrain and motor in and get the best of both worlds. Quieter cruising and power. Good luck with whatever you do OP. |

Hi everyone ![]() I hope I've posted this in the right place. I'm quite interested in a gt4 st205 I've been offered, but it had a few small issues with it..... There's a slight knocking coming from the near side front suspension, the current owner seems to think it's a figure 8 linkage arm? Would this be an expensive or hard part to replace? Also, his advert says the car is not boosting untill 4500rpm, then it will boost hard to around 14psi (read on a digital boost gauge). The owner seems to think it's due to a faulty knock sensor. Does anyone think this is right? If not what would be the problem? And again is it an expensive or hard fault to fix? Some help would really be appreciated! ![]() Lewis Wow, sorry I missed this. Clunk no big deal. Not boosting and then boosting hard is NOT bad knock sensor (which is easy to change). Lots of lag and then hard boost sounds like either aftermarket turbo (lazy) or poorly set boost controller. What kind of boost control does it have? Stock turbo? Let us know if you need any more help. www.primemr2.com. If it's 3sgte we probably know it. Have a great day. |

Thanks! I might give Tweak'd a shout and see. The website says they do engine swaps on a case to case basis, I'd probably have to lay out the vision and budget which is perfectly fine. I'd love to hear from some fellow swappers and get their input. I personally just don't have the skill set to perform such. I have the understanding and knowledge about how one would go about doing the swap, what engine works and why, what parts don't, how to go about getting the parts, and monetary means to do so. I just have the skill set sadly. Beyond finding an individual that can do the job, I'm hoping I can find someone that is as passionate about the car and the job at hand as I am. I'm totally down for a meet. I'll keep you guys posted what I find! Hey guys. I'm rather new to the area and to the Celica family. Is there anyone in the Charlotte, NC area or surrounding states that can handle the 3sgte swap? Or maybe someone widely known in the circles that could handle the job? I'm aware of the costs and fine with it, however I don't have the technical skills to go about doing a project like this. Any help is appreciated! As for professional shops that would do it - Tweak'd Performance used to do swaps but I think they've moved towards only doing wiring harnesses. Several North Carolina members have swapped 3S-GTEs into their cars and would be great resources: bsamps4 (Ben), easternpiro1 (Matt), mgnt232 (Nick), and TwistedCeli94 (Bobby). I recommend reading through Ben's project thread to get an idea of what you'll be doing and what type of tools/budget/effort you'll need: click. PS: Welcome to the family and hopefully we can get together for a meet-up with the rest of the NC guys. We, Prime Performance, do nothing but 3sgte engine swaps into MR2s, Celicas, Rav4s, Camrys, etc. Feel free to give me a call at the office 862-258-3346 if you want to chat about options. We ship cars from all over the country so getting here is no big deal. I look forward to hearing from you. Have a great day. |

Hi there, I am swapping my 7afe for a 3sgte gen 4. Now I want to upgrade the turbo and therfore I need a exaust manifold. So farr I can only find exaust manifolds for gen 3. Can anyone let me know if this will fit on gen 4 3sgte? Thanks The GEN3 and GEN4 have the same bolt pattern. It will bolt right on. We have done it many times on customer GEN4 swaps. Hope this helps. |

Hi, just bought a gen 4 3sgte with a broken turbo for my celica (check my profile for pics). As the turbo is broken I am looking for a new one and why not upgrade the same. So I am wondering if anyone here knows a good turbo which spools at low rpm for daily driving, gives sufficient boost at high rpm and can handle approx 350 hp. thnx for your toughts The only drop in cartridge upgrade is the ATS Sweet 16. If you want to go bigger, you need a GEN3 exhaust manifold and any GEN3 turbo kit. I hear good things about the Precision 5558 from some of my customers. Good luck. |

I am thinking about doing an engine swap on my 95 GT. I really like the car, and it is in pretty decent condition overall with really no rust. I have read in other forums that the 3rd gen. 3sgte is better in the long run if I want to get a lot more horses and more mods, etc, but that the 4th gen. is better if a person just wants to leave as is, because adding a bigger turbo, etc. is more difficult. I was going to sell the car and look into getting a Starion/Conquest, or modded Prelude, but I just can't seem to part with my Celica. Thanks. The GEN4 is just as easy to upgrade as any other 3sgte. We stock all kinds of cool stuff for it. To be honest, the stock GEN4 Ct15b is so good you really don't need to change anything until you decide you want to get a little crazy. Even then, the GEN3 exhaust manifold bolts right onto a GEN4 head. GEN3 turbo kit, job done. If you need any help give us a call at the phone number in our signature below. Good luck. |

Really bummed now because I was all excited about having Dr. Tweak do an engine swap on my 95 GT. I was going to go with a 4th gen Caldina. Found out the he/they no longer do engine swaps at all, and are only focusing on wiring harnesses. That being said, does anyone know of a really good, respectable swap shop specifically in MN, but I guess upper Midwest if need be. I would love to learn how to do all of this myself, but I have none of the necessary lifts, etc., and really no garage in whic to do it. Thanks in advance. While obviously not in the midwest, we at Prime Performance invented the GEN4 swap into the MR2 and would be more than happy to help you go GEN4. We have done Celicas, Alltracs, Rav4s, MK1/2/3 MR2s. It is what we do. www.primemr2.com. We have cars shipped to us from the entire continental US. Give us a call if you would like to talk options. I hope we can help you. Have a great day. |

It breaks my heart when I see stuff like this happening to guys. Yes, that is an extremely cheap price for an engine replacement but apparently many shops glaze over all of the details. When we swap a customer car I give them an estimate before hand of what it would cost with no other issues and then when the car is done I go over all of the little things that typically need to be addressed that were replaced line by line. I live on customer satisfaction and repeat customers so I try to do it right the first time. Hope you find a good solution OP. |

hello all! i just bought a 4th generation 3sgte to put in my 2001 celica. would any of you happen to have a service manual you could sell me or know where i could find one? it would help out a lot! thanks! -Ben Hey Ben, Congratulations on getting your awesome new 4th gen motor! We here at Prime Performance in Stanhope, NJ install these 4th gens all day into mr2s, rav4s and celicas and they are just fantastic motors. Nothing can spool with a stock 15b turbo gen4. It is a true joy to drive and my gen4 mr2 race car does embarrass a good number of my Porsche buddies and their $100,000 dollars monsters. The caldina manual has proven very difficult to find even for me with my contacts in Japan. However, if you have any problems I would be happy to help you with some decision making and advice from my years of installing and racing these motors. My email is primepeformanceauto@gmail.com and our office number is 862-258-3346. PS mr220v does the best wiring of anyone I have ever dealt with and he is a really good guy too. Thank you Justin Prime Performance www.primemr2.com primeperformanceauto@gmail.com 862-258-3346 |
