If anybody is in the md/va/dc area we can cruise

Im down come spring. Just found out of another member over in Rockville

I am trying to find a place to upgrade the interior seats as the old cloth has become a bit tattered and old. If you know of a good interior leather shop, let me know man. I'd like to add some foam padding to the front two seats also as there is barely any support. I look forward to some celica meets also.

Wow! I'm so glad to see there are more 6gc guys here in the DMV area! smile.gif

There are plenty, but not enough of a "group" mentality as I would hope. But, we can change that!!

def man. this coming spring/summer will be nice. I plan on redoing the celica interior seats and body work to make it look new. sound system is done and sounds excellent. alpine components front polk speakers in back, alpine hu and a kicker sub. the speakrs have a 4 channel amp and the sub has its own amp connected with 4 gauge wire. It truly is much better than most and sounds great. nobody expects that sound from the old celica lol

Thanks guys. I have been lurking for a while lol! THe car combo is great because i still get to drive "manual" since the celica is the 5speed ST. Both are factory besides the celica rims and sound system.

I've been a lurker for many years on here, but decided I'd share with the community. I have had my 97 celica for over 10 years and have over 185k miles and have grown way too connected to it. 3 years ago I had a lancer evolution and paid the car off and it was a great feeling. I put a lot of money towards the car and made it have a lot of whp, 460whp, but had a lot of turbo lag with the fp black and didn't like the lack of torque. I then knew I had to get some more torque, and needed something that was fast from the factory already. I sold the evo and was sad to see it go, but I had to do it. I told myself I would never sell the celica though, since it is simply too memorable and outstanding gas mileage, outstanding insurance, outstanding reliability and a very unique personality. It reminds me of the little engine that could. I'll never sell it and drive it till it melts or explodes. So... to prevent the delays, here is the new member of the family.

Celica for work/commutes, Black car for fun and spirited driving. It's the baby in the family but will be here to stay.

I was in the same boat a while back and came to the realization that few things are needed for the 7afe with out spending thousands and thousands. A basic spark plug/ wires/ KN filter/ full exhaust/ short shifter for starters. If you are more hardcore and want to step it up i'd do like others said and go step 2. Port and polish, forged pistons, clutch, flywheel, fuel management system, ignition. if it isnt enough, level up with a TURBOOO. Despite all this work, it'd still be very expensive which is why i just decided to just maintain the car and keep it workin along with some rims/tires and the above work before step 2 until i have an extensive amount of money before i enter the world of turbo. hope this helped biggrin.gif

My 02 sensor is not responding well and when i checked it it looks like there is a plastic or metal sheet missing underneath the car. My question is where can i get a plastic or metal sheet to place underneath the 02 sensor to prevent from exposure to elements and wind. can the 02 sensor go bad due to too much wind exposure?

i guess getting to 150 will be tough with out turbo. the numbers i see of people who turbo'd and boost at 6 or 7 psi are still under 150 sometimes. Well i guess i can only gain 10 hp max with those mods. nitrous seems a bit risky for my engine, but it would be some quick hp gains. hey defgeph how much were those headlights?

Hello everybody, its my first time posting here but i've been reading this site for about 1 year now. I just got my 97 celica st and i'm looking for some advice. My goal for this car is to have decent power gain to 150 hp. The important thing is that i want to do this myself and not pay hundreds for labor. THe list of mods that i have seen that are practical are the following:

1. Intake (injen or dr cai) with kn air filter
2. Better spark plugs
3. msd ignition
4. cat back exhaust or magnaflow muffler
5. twm short shifter
6. perhaps a chip upgrade or modification

my question is what kind of gains can i expect from these mods and if there are any other things i left out. btw, turbo is not practical for me due to lack of knowledge and fear of engine melting. also, what chips are available to allow for more hp gains for the st?
