Just an update.... Have found a guy close to me who will install at a pretty reasonable rate. Have also found an NZ car audio site which has been pretty helpful, and have found some pretty good quality gear for low prices (sold on from abandoned projects etc). I'm looking at Caliber amp's (C475 and CA2000D), Boston Acoutic 6.5inch Pro's for the front components and a 12" Digital Designs sub. Its all looking good, and hopefully will have pics up of the results by the new year. Thanks for your help everybody! ![]() Cheers, Kieran. |

Yeah thats exactly what I was thinking (about quality). Thanks Scarrell. I'll email the guy back and tell him I'm not interested in 1 amp for the whole system. I've got my eyes set on a 12" premier (pioneer) sub that I'm definitely interested in buying. Its got 750WRMS, but what I'm worried about is that its an SPL sub.... does that mean you sacrifice good sounding audio for....loudness? Just wondering, but all I'm interested in is wether it provides good sound. I'll get back to you guys once I've sorted this out. Thanks for all your help. Cheers, Kieran. |

Hey guys, I've been in talks with the guy from SLAP!, and I've told him that I want an amp for the sub (mono - correct me if I'm wrong), and an amp to run the front splits (4 channel, again correct me if I'm wrong). But as you can see below, he's telling me that there is no need for two amps ![]() QUOTE(SLAP! Guy @ Nov 26, 2004 - 5:12 PM (GMT+12)) There is no reason for getting two amps. A 4channels will be just as good as 2 x 2channels. Getting a 4channel may be cheaper also and will be cheaper to install. Is he right? Maybe he is misunderstanding me, but he is talking about running the sub AND the splits off the same, 4 channel amp?? Because yeah it will save me money blah blah blah, but I'm more interested in a quality sounding system. Surely if you have an amp dedicated to your bass/sub, and an amp for the other speaker stuff, it will produce better power, and more importantly, better sound? Again, please correct me if I'm wrong. If skimping on money means skimping on quality then I'm not interested ![]() Any help appreciated. |

Haha yeah the good ole' yellow! Didn't really think of that - strangely enough ![]() ![]() And yeah after indulging in a bit of checking myself, I've also been told that there are a lot of quality dealers that don't advertise online. I've also got my Brother-in-law in Adelaide lookin for me, which can hopefully turn something up. Cheers for the help guys. |

QUOTE(ShadowFX @ Nov 19, 2004 - 12:09 PM) you could always try shipping from some aus stores to nz Any store/site suggestions? My sister lives in Adelaide, so I could maybe get them sent to her to save a bit. And my parents are going across to visit her, so I could get them to take whatever I buy back with them ![]() Cheers. |

I have a 97 SSII Hatchback. Thanks for the tips, I'll check around and see about importing - I'm sure I could, but prices to ship from the U.S to NZ are generally very expensive, and would most likely push my budget over the limit. I'll check it out though and get back to you guys. Cheers. edit: Sorry Scarrell - not sure what sq/sql is (apart from an sql script on the computer ![]() |

QUOTE(importceli @ Nov 14, 2004 - 8:07 PM) i think a really solid set up for that price would b ur head unit (most likely fine if not abused) sub amp - JL or eclipse 500-600.1 amp gonna b a mono amp sub - JL 10 or 12w6v2 (highly recomended) very nice rounded out sound but also has that extra punch to it if you need it speakers - mb quarts are great just gotta pick if ur gonna go reference or pro but great overall speakers(highly recomended) speaker amp - multi-channel you can prob run about 120 rms to the mb's and you'll b fine so an amp that could run 120x4 would b perfect or something around there should get you set up nicely Thanks for the help dude, but down here we don't get JL or mb (unless an NZer can point me in the right direction), and I've only found one JBL amp, which is the GTO4000. I've found a NZ eclipse audio site, so that looks promising - any specific amp model #'s to look for? I'll list the main brands we have down here: Alpine, Clarion, Cliff Designs, Kenwood, Kicker, Lanzar, MA audio, Pioneer, Profile, Rockford Fosgate, Sony, Soundstorm, Phillips, and Fusion. If anyone could give tips/opinions on the above brands, that would be great. Cheers. |

QUOTE I dont know if i would get lanzar amplifiers... Yeah, while the site was down I was doing a bit of research and found that not a lot of people thought highly of them. As for the HU, I think you have the right one, it says it has 3 pairs RCA output, but I couldn't see anything about voltage. Just out of curiosity though, what kind of HU is recommended? Through the feedback so far, I think I may replace it later on down the line, although I'm not immediately troubled by it. I was checking out the Pioneer DEH-P9650MP which has 3 6.5 volt preouts..... any opinions? Anyone have opinions on Rockford Fosgate amps? I've heard good things about them, as well as being relatively inexpensive... Again, all help appreciated. Cheers. |

Thanks for all your input guys,
My CD player has 50Wx4 Channels, and I bought it and had it installed in April....do you really reccommend replacing it? As for the $2500 budget, remember that it is NZD (roughly $1700 US Dollars), so its about a grand less than what you may be thinking ![]()
Yeah I had been told to stay well away from Sony ![]()
![]() What I am now wondering, was if I was going to run the speakers off of a seperate, 4 channel amp, does the HU have much bearing at all on how well the speakers are run or the amount of power output? I spent $100 getting it installed not too long ago (about $70 USD), so I guess I'd be pretty reluctant to get rid of it already. But again, if it does have a negative effect on the rest of the system I suppose I'll have to let it go ![]() So basically, from piecing together the info from you guys, this is what I'm looking at: Sub amp - Lanzar? For the one sub, I'd be looking for a mono amp right? Component amp - Again, maybe Lanzar? I'm looking for 4 channel here right? Sub - 12" Pioneer TSW2000spl sound ok? (premier) Components - OK, I know this may sound ignorant and really noobie, but I don't know *&^% about this. So when you guys say components, do you mean ALL four speakers inside the car? Or is it a pair of speakers? Again, apologies for my ignorance. ![]() 6gcs3nz and neophile - Do you guys have any sort of guidelines on what kind of $$ I'd be looking at to get this installed? Know of any good places? I haven't got a clue, as you can probably tell. Again, thanks for helping me out guys. |

Hey guys, I realise that there are other topics here on what speakers to get and what not, but the problem is, that in our part of the world, there are a lot of different brands that dominate the market. So what I'm wanting to know from other Kiwis (or possibly even Aussies), is what kind of brands are reccommended? I've got a Pioneer head unit (DEH-P7650 - got it dirt cheap), and what I think are stock speakers, with a couple of tweeters. What I'm wanting to do, is replace everything that is in there (apart from the HU), and add a sub. Any suggestions on what kind of speakers & how many, brands/kinds of amps and how many, and also, around how much would I be looking to get it installed? Any Kiwis know of any good places? I mainly listen to rap/hip hop with some R&B, but do crank out the odd Nirvana tune every once and a while, so I suppose I would be looking for a bit of bass. And also, I hate it when stuff rattles when I crank up what I've got, is there any way to lessen/eliminate this? My budget is $2500 (NZD - inc install), but I suppose I could push up on that if it is reccommended. But like anyone else, I would like to save money wherever possible, without sacrificing quality of course. Also, keep in mind I'm not looking for competition level sounds or anything, just something I can crank up with it still sounding clear with low distortion. All help appreciated. Cheers. |

Hey Doggy, are you interested in orders outside of Lithuania/US?? I'd love to have some custom gauges, and we have a pretty decent 6g community here in NZ, I'm sure I could piece together a few people for a group buy to save on shipping ![]() ![]() |

Hey Dude, I was looking around for aaaages for kits in oz and NZ, and ended up picking up some car mags (from Australasia) which had quite a few sites in both our fair countries. Here are a few (all with 6th gen celis of course): GT Autostyle (Australia) - Nice prices if you are in oz.... but if not its $450 (AUD) shipping to your door in NZ ![]() N1 Kits (NZ) - Don't have prices on the site, and only 1 kit (veilside) for 6th gen celis. Based in takinini. Xtreme Bodylines (NZ) - Prices are ok.... FREIGHT FREE WITHIN NZ!! Aerotech (NZ) - Based in Christchurch, prices aren't the best, but they have an ok selection. Slipstream Performance (NZ) - These guys only have one front bumper for 6th gen celis on the site, but its only $300. They're based in Auckland, and they said that it would only cost $20 to ship it to me in Wellington. Kent Distributors (NZ) - These guys don't sell kits for celis, but they do sell a C/F bonnet with a vent for $650 (i inquired through email). Not sure of quality though, or how much it would be to ship. Based in Christchurch. Aerobody (Australia) - Based in oz, not sure of prices. Ok selection. Hope this helps. If you need anymore, I can dig some more out of my mags (I bought a hole stack just to find kits!). Cheers. |
