I checked it when I first put it in and it was getting a yellowish spark, however I think the Distributor was going out. The secondary resistance wasn't right on the ohms, nether was the GE- & NE- terminals on the distributor harness, and also my starter burned up in the process. Fuel was getting to the plugs, aswell as spark at first, and when i put my finger in the spark plug hole it was poppin' out air. everything was plugged up, however due to the 4AFE head the EGR was blocked off (wich wouldn't be no biggie). Once i get a new Distr. and Starter , I can do some more trouble shooting. The only difference between a 4AFE and a 7AFE is the stroke (7AFE - 85.5,4AFE-77.0)resulting in 7AFE more torque lower RPM,4AFE less torque higher RPM,CC(7AFE-1762,4AFE-1587),PS(7AFE-115,4AFE-105),RPM(7AFE-5400,4AFE-5600). To install it all I had to do was to use my Power Steering Pump bracket, and screw out the sensor on the back of the block and screw mine in. Now if i can just get it running!!! Wouldn't a 7afe Distributor work for this 4AFE, and if it won't how could I customize the Distributor harness to match mine. wess- |

i bought what i thought was a 7afe for 200$ from junkyard but the IM doesnt have the EGR Valve nor the Vacuum Switching wich would make it a 1.5L 5afe right? how could i tell for sure what it is besides that i also looked for the metal plate on the block wich would say but its missing. also if it is 5afe how much worse is that than the 7afe what all would i be losing? wess- |

well i did spray starting fluid in it and it tryed for a second or two but i keep thinkin it might be the ignition coil. this may be a newbie question but where is the ignition coil in a 94 st never needed to know or really thought too much on it but valve timing it great my compression is good and i have checked all possibilities and everything is perfect so it must be ignition. thnx guys its nice to have help every now and then |

ok my celi has been sittin for awhile and i decided to put a new engine in it so i have this new engine and i installed it-swapped all screw in sensors of my old block onto the new one also used my intake maifold & throttle body, i hollowed out the piece under exhaust manifold (its directly under where it bolts to the block and has honeycomb shape), i resurfaced and lightened my own flywheel at work and installed a stage 2 excedy clutch, pressure plate, and release bearing. now that everything is put together i cant get it to completely crank over , it trys but wont do nothing more. i have checked and my fuel pressure is good and im getting fuel to the combustion chamber, i have put it on TDC on the exhaust side and timed it, it gets a yellowish type of spark when i checked (should be blue i thought). so im getting fuel, spark, and its timed right so why wouldn't it start... i have checked everything from timing, fuel pump, fuel pressure, timing belt, distributor cap & rotor, wrong wires plugged up, relay fuses anyone have any idea what going on? -wess- im desperate to get this bad boy on the roads again any help is muchly apreciated |

i honestly dont understand what noise your trying to describe but if its a real lopud high pitch kinda sounds like metal scrpaing together then you could possibly have a vaccum leak or something loose on your intake manifold like maby not completely bolted down (loose bolts). wess- |

ok heres the deal i have had 3 7afes the first one blew because i didnt keep updated on the oil that was when i was really unexperienced but the other 2 have been problems coming from a junk yard and i recently changed out my motor by myself and it was over heating and running kinda slugish and had a major vaccum leak. i was driving and then it started slowing down my first thought was maby i timed it wrong so i made sure it was TDC (top dead center) and pulled the cap and rotor and checked and made sure it pointed to number one on the distributor so i figured that wasnt the problem i checked for any loose or unconnected vaccum lines and sure enough all i found was 2 bolts missing on the top of the intake manifold but that wasnt why it died and wouldnt start. next i checked the spark plugs when i pulled the plug wires the were all gooey and melted and the bushings were melted on the top of the spark plugs so i had to stand outside a restraunt for 2 1/2 hrs. digging the the bushings and spark plugs out then i walked to autozone and bought bosch platinum 4's w/ bosch 5mm plug wires and put those on then drove home and started taking things apart and troubleshooting the main problem. it turns out the thermostat and sensors wich was causing the fans not to work so i pulled off the thermostat housing and replaced it with the one from my old engine and the fans then started to work and i changed the fuel rail and injectors to fix the running sluggish and for anyone who changes out there engine with one from a junkyard trust me make sure you get all sensors and bolt ons from your old engine and make sure everything works great before leaving after you put it in. wess- |

QUOTE(dans_st @ Jul 30, 2006 - 12:00 AM) is it on the exhaust tract after the manifold or is it bolted to the block itself??? look like a cylinder shape?, have vacuum lines or wires coming out of it? cylinder shape is connected to the block by one bolt and no vacuum lines or wire only wire on the whole entire thing i know of comes from the o2sensor wich is on the manifold itself. wess- dans u have a aol/aim s/n? hit me up if u do its welleybro94 |

no not the cat the EGR (exhaust gas recirculator) i think its what it stands for but its right below the exhaust manifold were the pipes come out of the block it is surrounded by metal shields and not the big heat shield. wess- |
