the car had been lowered around 1.25 back and 1.25 front but the front spring collapsed to around 1.75 (are being replaced, thanx to a friend called warranty)

anyways

since ive replaced the back springs with around a 2 inch drop ive been feeling the paint lines off the road through my seat mad.gif

im thinking maybe the shocks are screwed (they have been driven on for 190,000 km)

advice - much appreciated

i found a 96 GT-4 front clip from japan and should be geting the engine, but now my problem is the transmission.

are the transmissions alike? or do the differ to the engine.?

eg. if i get a st185 do all trannys fit that engine? this is the same question i want to to ask but with a st205?

i have a few questions for the people in the know!

if i miss an important question to ask please reply with an answer, thankyou

car info:1994 celica gt with 5SFE, automatic, FWD

1.Power per dollar wich gen of the 3SGTE would be best? (i was thinking st215/st205)

2.if the engine is made for AWD how will my FWD handle that extra power?, is a conversion absolutly necesery?

3.I dont want to change it to a manual (if possible) will this result in power loss? if yes how much?, is there an automatic alternative? (Auto Gearbox from GT4?)

4.trouble spots to be wary of?, anything in particular

5.Reasonable price? ive found a 3SGTE with no gearbox for $4000 AUSD (australian dollars) good price?

any help would be greatly appreciated

sometimes when i turn my car on and leave it to warm up a little i hear a little "creeking" sound that seems to churn over and over until i actually press the throttle a little.

it almost sounds like the belt turning and turning, only the sound it makes is more like a squeeky door?

it doesnt matter if its cold or hot outside it still does it.

anybody had this problem before? or know what it is?

i have a 94 gt with the 5sfe in it, and i am currently on the lookout for info regarding a swap to a 3sgte, i also have a few questions i would like answered!

1. i live in brisbane, australia (anybody know any shops that do the swaps or where i can actually get the engine?)?

2. my car is automatic (does it have to be changed to manual, and will the auto transmission cause problems for the installation or actual driving)?

3. the price range (in australian dollars or US dollars, so that i know what to avoid)?

4. does it matter that gt4's are AWD and my car is FWD?

5.besides the actual engine swap, what other things ARE REQUIRED get changed?

6.any other info i may i have gorgotten to ask for i would appreciate it if you would tell me!

thanx in advance

im writing this to try and find out who know a good shop or a good mechanic for performance parts for celica's

I live in Underwood, Australia (close to Brisbane) and any shop known in a 70km radius of Brisbane I would like to know about it

thanx in advance.

Here are some good shops for celicas

Graham's Street Wheels and Tyres - 15 Moss St, Slacks Creek Logan City
(he can inport ANY wheel for the celica, He got me out of stock wheels!)

Hardcore Racing Componants - same address but further down the street
(these guys specialize in performance, worth a look!)

Advanced Performance Centre - 2928 Logan Rd, Underwood Brisbane
(They have a good range of Filters, not the best shop though!)

Kieth 4 Wheels - Cnr. Compton & Logan Rd, Springwood
(hase a few wheels that fit celica's

The Tyre Factory - Grand Plaza Drive, Browns Plains Logan City
(these guys lower your car for a low price)

Right Price Exhausts - 53 Moss St, Slacks Creek Logan City
(they quoted me $1075 for full system + extractors, know better?)

There is a new item on the market called an "inlet fan"

now i dont know much about it but this is the rundown....

1.it's a small 'circular' fan made by 3 or 4 blades that fits inside your intake piping
2.it was invented to help with air circulation inside the piping
3.it circulates the air inside the pipe to reduce drag from the different air denses (it removes the lag of hot air which is slower and sticks to the inside walls of the pipe, and can not get through as fast as cold air.
4.it only fits on 'steel piping larger than 2" in diameter

if your like me you would believe this is another gimmick to get money of the public, but ill have to actually see with my own eyes what it really does (maybe even a dyno read out?)

what do you think?

prevention is always better than the cure! always protect your CAI filter by placing it to one side and away from the gap towards the ground (onto the plastic covering, if you still have it on!)

a shield could allso be put in to prevent water from wetting the filter (made from plastic or some sort of steel, just make sure its bolted on very well and tightly so it doesnt rattle or get loose and cause problems in the engine bay)

The truth is though is that a lot of water has to go into the filter to do any damage at all (something like driving through a flood or a long puudle of water) this is because the heat from your engine bay will dry most small amounts of water pretty quickly.

There are alot of people (in these forums + other places) that dont really understand what a air intake is suppposed to do!

They simply go for the whole $250+ "fast looking" intake that "guarantees" tongue.gif
10 000kw at the front wheels!

There is simply no need to spend more than around $65-$80 of which i recommend most of that cash goes into a good filter (some suggestions are...
Jackson Racing, Apexi, JAKS. all these three brands were tried and tested and the Jackson racing one cost $45 (AUS) and gave the BEST resuts even as a short ram on to the stock rubber piping!

And now to the Short RAM vs. the Cold Air Intake debate!
This depends on what your needs and prefrences are.
but put simply for more POWER the CAI is better
for better SOUND the CAI is better
for hassle free INSTALLATION the Short RAM is bettter
for a cleaner filter and less MAITNANCE the Short RAM is better

now lets remember that COLD air is much more DENSER than warm/hot air
and COLD air is many times more COMBUSTABLE than warm/hot air

now you do the math and its simple cold air+good fuel+good spark (ignition) gives the most power!

POST your replys, questions, problems, answers, anything to do with the air intake

the car has been running fine,

ive been thinking that it makes a spark to get rid of dirt or vapour that may enter the intake pipe, but that idea is just ridiculous (if toyota intended it to actually do something like that!) confused.gif

i mean it might make the pod filter catch on fire or it may warm up the air entering the engine (which doesnt do any good)

it should say in your car manual,

it is usually red in colour (so it can be easily identified)
It will even say on it gear or transmission oil/lubricantation.

it allso comes in for manual or automatic.

awhile ago i installed a pod filter on my 5sfe and now i wanted to instal new piping
but there are 2 problems.

1st: the sensor inside the stock rubber piping, how do you install it in the metal piping? (without it falling out again)

2nd: at the end of the piping (close to the throttle body) there is a small black box under the pipe that is connected to it. what is this? and do you need it?

i appreciate any help! wink.gif

yesterday i washed my engine (5sfe) (looks nice) but unfortunatly the seals on the spark wire caps had small gaps around the edges (from the owner before!)

now i have taken the spark plugs put and dried them and dried out the inside of the ignition chambers, and the engine is runnung fine (drove 40km to test)

should i do anything to prevent further damage? (im buying new leads this week)
