The superstrut suspension feels heaps better than the macphearson on the celica. I know because I have owned both and driven both.

Once you replace the figure8s etc, it will last you quite a while.

if the celica is not superstrut(usually on SS2 and SS3 models) then yes. Curren and celica, basically the same car.

superstrut is optional on ssII so check first if you have a superstrut suspension system.

No, you dont move the sub around for sound depth. just try facing it a few ways and see if it is better. You don't need to point the sub towards the driver either. smile.gif

Just thought I will share what I did a little while ago in preparation of a sound quality competition. Not finished and needs to be bogged, sanded and either painted or covered with vinyl/carpet. Tweeters would also be flush mounted once I have done all the bogging etc, this will be done with washers etc.

Morel Supremo tweeters for those who are wondering what the odd shaped speaker is.

Drill holes for fiberglass to stick to panel

Resin + chopped strand mat

Test fitting. So glad that they still fit.No obstruction to pedal and the tweets are not blocked

Dynamat does two things.

1) Mass damping from its weight. Basically weigh anything down and it will lower its resonance frequency and also increase the energy required to excite it.

2) Blocking from its aluminium foil. This is straight out stopping the sound from going through. (so cover as much surface as possible when you want to achieve this)

so, if you want to use dynamat to its full potential and you are short on cash. Put dynamat in the middle of flat big surfaces such as the outer door which you did not dynamat. The inner metal which you have done is a convoluted surface and mass damping isnt really needed. So you basically are only using it as a blocker and since you did it in pieces, it is not really performing all that well.

The dynamat on the door cards is alright but I can do the same with rubber sheets etc to stop it from resonating for a cheaper but messier option.

I would also suggest covering the access hole. You will be surprised at the difference. use thin mdf. Let me know if you need any other help smile.gif

Buy a reputable 4 channel amp. 75rms x 4 for example. Cheap ebay amps do not produce the power they rate, do not last and some of them will make your system sound like crap.

Buy a good 6.5" component set for the fronts.
Use 12mm MDF to make up spacers.Doesnt take long and all you need is a jigsaw and drill.

Buy a SVC(single voice coil) 4ohm subwoofer.

Now, wire 2 channels for the front speakers and bridge the 2 other channels for the subwoofer.

If you find that it is not enough, simple. Buy a monoblock for the subwoofer and use the 4 channel solely for the fronts(bridge 1/2 and 3/4)

IF you want rears, simple too. Connect the stock speakers to the headunit directly using its internal amp. There is no need to upgrade the rears.

6x9s are only for people who do not have the space for subs and want some thump. They are painful to listen to and there is no point in having them if you have a subwoofer.

I have tried 3ways in a celica and it didnt really work too well. Going back to two way atm.(morel supremo and Seas l18 midbass) .

Yeah, I just use the stock speakers for rearfill whenever passengers are in the car. They are connected to my headunit amp and I just need to flick the headunit internal amp on if I want it.

Not sure about hertz, never listened to a set myself. It looks like you are going to run passive(using the crossover supplied by manufacturer) so you wont be going for Seas or Scanspeak. Rainbow and DLS especially would be nice. Cant really go too far off DLS as far as speakers that sound good out of the box. oh yeah, time alignment is just to delay speakers so the speaker closest to you is delayed and sound reaches your ears at the same time(basically a refined Left-Right fader)

yeah, was meaning 50-300hz region but as long as you are happy and gives the result you want. I was just coming from the sound quality kind of perspective and 8inch midbass drivers are just awesome for midbass biggrin.gif. Use subwoofer for sub-bass.

One cheap example of a 7" midbass that will kick you in the chest and not sound uncontrolled.

Get 8inch midbass drivers instead of subs.

No such thing as too much power, just depends if you have a big enough wallet and whether it is necessary.

I can assure you that your swap will be more expensive than just selling the current celica and buying a gt4.

save it for future use. Esp when your sub starts rattling stuff.

otherwise if you have enough, put it in the rear quarter panels.

I have extensively deadened my last Celica.
Dynamat in doors outer panel and 6 layers aluminium fire retardant foil(blocker) on the inner panel. Dynamat on trunk floor and other deadening on quarter panels.

I will say that road noise doesnt change by much. The celica is a noisy car and I am still deciding on how I should tackle the problem properly for the current celica.

Dynamat does mass loading with its weight. It adds weight to the metal panel and lowers the resonating frequency of the panel. Mass loading is useful for large flat panels like your doors and quarter panels and roof and stops them vibrating easily(noise). It is not so useful for convoluted panels. Convoluted panels does not need mass loading, so only the blocking feature of the dynamat is "functioning" when you put dynamat on convoluted panels.

Dynamat's shiny aluminium backing does the blocking(stop sound going through). Dynamat's backing is quite thick compared to other deadening materials so it is quite alright. I used fire retardant foil as a better and cheaper alternative.

You can try putting dynamat in your doors and see how it goes but I suspect that most road noise in a celica enters through the firewall and floor pan. Cheaper and less hassle solution would be to get quieter tyres.
