i've been through 2 harmonic balancers in the past two months. fml. that, and the intake pipe is held on with gorilla tape, and i dropped some more cash on a new battery. also, i'm thinking of doing this mod. a friend of mine did it a while ago with good results: QUOTE (RBX on YotaTech) Installed a catch can this weekend, using a Craftsman inline air filter for a compressor PN:16009. I ran out of hose so I had to use some air compressor hose(orange) i had laying around. The catch can runs from the PCV to the drivers valve cover into the can then clean air is sent to the manifold. I hate the fact that the auto industry thinks its totally fine to feed oil vapor into the intake manifold, often before the throttle body, creating a total mess of things that should never see any oil. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

and today the crank pulley decided it wanted to fall off the harmonic balancer. at 40mph. that was a fun drive home. took a swing by the parts store and they had a new hb in stock, so that was this evening's project. |

so the oil leak seems to have been drain-plug-related. no more leaks. i changed the plugs, and the old ones came out looking like they had been under a blow torch for the past nine years. lean as hell. new plugs went in, but the engine knocked/pinged really bad. then yesterday i got a cel, so i looked it up, "low airflow in egr valve". pulled it off and cleaned it out, as it was packed full of carbon. now the engine knocks/pings no more! successkid.jpg when i pulled off the intake, the intake elbow cracked at the throttle body. it's taped up with super33 electrical tape for the time being, but i'll be making a cai soon-ish. that should be a good afternoon project. other than that, i love cruising to work, top down, blasting def leopard... best half-hour of the day! |

i seem to be burning/leaking oil somewhere. i had to top it off twice this past month, so i'm on the look-out for oil spots underneath. friggin oil leaks, man... |

i pulled my roof motors out today. the driver's side just had a broken pin. the passenger's side, however: ![]() yup. sheared the 4 allen screws right off ![]() ![]() attempts at retrieving the broken screws were... "unsuccessful". i ordered new screws for the "good" gearbox and new pins. i also ordered a used motor to replace the passenger's side gearbox. everything should be here by wednesday, so hopefully i can have a working roof by the end of the week. also: last friday i got my alarm in the mail. the "factory" alarm was on the fritz. i made sure to solder all connections and test along the way, and it works soooo muuuuch better now. this week i should be getting the field disturbance sensor, so i can leave the top down with no worries. |

as i suspected, hardware is as follows: pin: 3/32" diameter x 1/2" length allen screws: 4-40 pitch x 3/8" length all 8 allen screws on the motor unit (motor + gearbox) are the same size. since i don't want that to happen again, i ordered a completely new set of allen screws (along with new pins) to replace where the motor bolts on. |

so, my 99 spins the motors, but the roof just sits there. pins broken. how long are the pins? i know everyone says 3/32" diameter, but what about how long? sorry to bump an old thread, but i believe it's pretty relevant. |

i got the clutch done this weekend. next up is the motor for the roof. i think it's just a mechanical linkage or something, as the motor turns, but the roof doesn't move |

help! ![]() ![]() i don't know how to lower the tranny safely. axle shafts came out no problem all the linkages and wires are disconnected. i don't know what to call everything (i'm a truck guy, not fwd car guy), but the middle "crossmember" (two bolts in the front, holds the trans mounts) isn't coming out because the rear mount goes through it. i'll post pics here in a sec there was a great web page, all in japanese, with ~5 pages of great pictures. but now i can't find it. anyone have it? do i need to remove the "sub-frame" (holds the lower control arms)? |

meh... i'm more of a function-over-form guy. skirts and rims do nothing for me, but adding a field disturbance alarm does. i have one on my truck (for when i take the doors off), and it works great. the instant you stick your arm in, it chirps at you. some things i'd like to add in the future: - led lights all around - led dome lights - fog/driving lights - custom battery setup - e-fan indication circuit - 1-din stereo and pocket - cai that's really all for now. it's my dd, so i don't want to throw too much money at it. i still have a truck that needs an engine rebuild (more likely a swap) and insurance. |

thanks guys. 8 hours for anyone else is 2 days for me. i'm anal about safety, so blocking, choking, and securing everything will take a bit of my time. redline mt-90 is on its way, and flywheel bolts were ordered in the hardware order. well, looks like all my hardware will be here before saturday, so i'm hoping i can get it all done this weekend. that would be great, seeing as how it's supposed to be nice weather next week ![]() |

thanks. that helps a bunch. new flywheel only a few bucks more than resurfacing: ![]() and the aisin clutch: ![]() flywheel bolts are on their way. if everything goes well, i might even be able to get it all done this weekend. but that's dependent on my hardware shipment |

sweet, thanks. i've done a clutch job before, but on my 93 pickup, so a fwd will be a bit different. few questions: -how long did the whole job take you? i've heard 6 hours to 3 days -did you break anything? (ie, what should i watch out for) -is there a pilot bearing? i haven't seen any mention of on anywhere -how high did you raise the car? -any hardware you replaced while it was apart anyway? -and anything you forgot to order? i know some of the questions might be trivial, but i couldn't find too much. maybe i'm just over-thinking it thanks again |

Looks like a clean very Good luck!! thanks. it's a little rough in a few minor spots, but nothing i can't handle a commuter car that will modified heavily to the point where it can no longer be a commuter car you mean. welcome! heh, nooo. that's the truck. that's actually why i got this car, because the truck is so heavily modified. (but that doesn't mean no mods at all... ![]() |

new-to-me 99 gt convertible badly needs a clutch. i'll be doing the work myself over the next two weekends, so hopefully that'll give me enough time. i already ordered the parts (aisin clutch kit, timken seals, sachs flywheel), along with every nut and bolt i'm probably going to break in the process. this thread is just to ask for help along the way, post pics of my work, and get yelled at for not doing it the right way ![]() i plan on tearing it apart this weekend and putting it back together next weekend. then i can get it inspected and titled. |
