What are the two ports on the bottom or the radiator for? i had to change my radiator because it cracked and when i was changing it i noticed there was two ports on the bottom that were capped off on my old radiator and had brass piping on the new radiator.. i took off the brass and capped the ports. just today the coolant started leaking in the area as one of the ports.. so i just want to know what they are for |

Is your reservoir full? If it is then it might just be overflowing and it must've poured out of the overflow hole at the top of the reservoir neck. If not that go ahead and check all the hoses and the radiator just in case. I take that back. Check all your hoses. Start from the upper radiator hose, inlet/outlet heater hoses, bypass hose, and TB hose. no the reservoir isnt full, its not coming out the overflow. its a leak below the battery shelf i just dont see any thing it could be leaking from... |

So i finally found the region where im leaking coolant, but it doesnt make sense because there arent any hoses around there. after driving 5 miles down the free way at 70 i stopped and saw that there was alot of water being sprayed under the battery around onto the driverside wheel well. the only thing that i see involved with the cooling system around there is the radiator reservoir.. i dont see any cracks though and it holds water. does any pressure go into it? what could be leaking in that area? 1996 2.2 L |

Recently made a 800 mile moving trip and had too pull a trailer that weighed close too the weight of the car... anyways cracked the radiator going over the grape vine into Los angeles and my car shot to overheated and before i had time to react, it shut off and i was able to pull off on an exit luckily. the heat pretty much fried my spark plug wires.. replaced the radiator and did a full tune up to get it back up and running good again. so now it runs but somewhere there is a fast leak. spent all day looking in every nook and cranny of the engine department and finally i found a possible culprit.. i removed everything in the way of the extra coolant reservoir to see if that was leaking. i didnt see any cracks in it but the wall of the fender was covered in stains where it looked like water had been sprayed but dried by the engine heat and in the front of the wheel well there was a puddle of water. does that reservoir hold any pressure? and are there any other hoses running along the driver side fender/ wheel well? |

Autozone/Advance Auto Parts will scan it for free. i went to autozones and asked them if they could do that when the light first came on and they said they dont do that anymore. but i disconected the battery today because i needed it out of the way, and i was hoping it would reset. the check engine light never came back on. so that reassures my thought that it happened when the first problem occured that i already fixed |

So about two weeks ago i drove 800 miles because i moved to LA. i had to pull a trailer weighing about 2000 pounds all was going well until i went over the grape vine on i-5 cracked the radiator somewhere on the pass then it overheated so i pulled over in la and got towed to my destination (10 miles away) bought a new radiator put it in no problem. took it for a test drive and it ran horrible like it wasnt running on all cylinders. so while it was running i pulled off one wire at a time to see which one didnt make a difference.. i believe the car got so hot it fried all the plug wires because 2/4 litterally ripped in half while i was checking them. so i ran to a part store got new plugs wires and cap and rotor. the car ran great for a day or 2 then one morning it ran the same as it did before i gave it the tune up, but after 10 seconds it ran perfect again. now it does this every time the car is started cold. a few days after that i noticed when its fully warm it runs similar to cold... running rough at low rpms but more subtle when its warm than when its cold. Does anyone know what could be causing this kind of behavior from the engine? PS. Also the check engine light came on when it over heated the first time when the radiator cracked. i keep forgetting to reset the light. i dont think it has anything to do with the current problem but im not sure because it did happen around the same time.. |
