I went under to change my tranny fluid today and totally stripped the drain bolt/plug. It's so narrow in that area I couldn't really get a good grip ( i don't know how I managed to drain it before...). Successive tries just resulted in more and more stripping, and now I can get the socket onto bolt, but it just slips off if I try and turn it laugh.gif . I apologize if this isn't the correct area to post this...and I did read as many of the other stripped screw/bolt threads as I could, but that area is so small that I couldn't really imagine any of those methods working too well for me. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm probably just going to have to bring it to my mechanic, but I thought I'd shoot you guys the problem first. Thanks, all input is appreciated.

A friend of mine recently bought a 96 gt (I didn't coach him on the buy, you'll see why in a sec...) with just over 100k. Went over to his apartment the other day to check it out, 5speed felt fine, fluids seemingly in good order, idle was fine...etc etc, nothing noticable from just driving it around. When we got back I got down on the driveway under the car...and here's where my question starts: under the engine (at the end of the front underbody cover/about in line with the wheels)...it looked like it was splattered with --well i guess it was--oil sludge. Drew dipstick, everything looked ok. He just had the oil changed at a local shop, and going over the papers the previous owner gave him I discovered the oil hadn't been changed for at least 9000miles. This is kind of a hodge-podge description, I didn't have my camera with me or I'da taken pictures of the stuff underneath the car (there were some small drips on the driveway right under it). I guess my questions are: was this oil sludge? did it have anything to do with the car's history? if it drives fine should he worry about it? Any input would be great. thankya guys.

Been searching for about 30 mins and I couldn't find a post on this. I was just curious how difficult it is to remove the rear seats (94 coupe, leather), I could only find one bolt easily between the two seats, but I havn't taken the plastic interior sides (armrest/speaker housing) off yet. Anything I should know before I start? Thanks ahead of time.

'94 gt coupe. Everytime I go over rough road surfaces I hear a very annoying, somewhat dull "thud thud," coming from *somewhere* beyond my back seats. It sounds like there is something loose (like the spare tire) that is moved only slightly when I go over bumps...but I can't seem to find where it's coming from. Hypothetically if I was driving on glass and wipped the car back and forth, I would *not* hear the noise, so I don't think it's anything loose.... I tried taking all that plastic/carpet liner out from the trunk, still a noise. I tried putting carpets under my spare tire, and made sure there wasnt anything else in the trunk that was banging around (jack is wrapped ina big towel and secured with rope), still a noise. My last venture was to cram towels in the space just under the highmounted brake light, but I still got a noise. It doesn't sound underbody, it sounds inside the cabin, but what do I know...

Anyone else have/had this problem? Any suggestions?

'94 gt, 100k miles. When I bought the car the guy told me he had the seals in the engine replaced, and the car never blew smoke. Now, ever since I made a SRI, reset air/fuel ratio, and (maybe this doesnt matter, it was a while ago) used lucas fuel injector cleaner, the car blows out a nice cloud of blackish, blueish smoke when I start it. Is this oil leaking? It only does it when it has been sitting for a while (ie. if I drive to the store, turn it off, and come back out 10 min later and turn it back on, no smoke). I gotta go to my mechanic soon anyhows for clutch work so I'll have him check it out, but was wondering if this maybe isn't a problem or ..something else..
--Thanks guys

Hey all, long time listener, first time caller. I bought my '94 GT about two months ago and I've been following the forums and messing around with the DIY stuff. I'm definitely still a newb to the engine bay but I'm learning, hehe. Anyways...

I put in a CAI I made out of 2" PVC pipe today, but I have a filter (no-name brand) that's 3". Everything fits and runs, I reset the cpu, but my idle is ...i dont know if its bad or not...usually (when warmed up) about 900. Is this too low? Should i try and find a filter that's 2"? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

I'll post pics of it tomorrow, but i was also wondering if my battery could effect the idle, cause i know its old.

p.s. I had tried a 3" pipe on the filter and fitted it to the 2" throttle body and it seemed to make no difference, possibly even hindered performance...i dont know if i was imagining it though. I read somewhere not to go too much bigger than your throttle body so i decided to try 2".

Thanks,
Corv
