I love the muscle.

Owned several.

Still own a Big Block Chrysler, though it is a luxury barge, not a muscle car.

I have owned Chevelles, Mustangs, Camaros and even a Roadrunner.

I love my Celicas, but there was an unmistakable class to owning a classic muscle car.

A Supra may have more technology and make equitable numbers, but it will never have the soul of an old Chevelle.

I just got a text, Daniel, Jawz4God, was involved in a motorcycle accident last night. He is currently in the ICU in Charlotte.

I will update when I have more information.

Japan has strict laws about automobile taxes. Making it very expensive and illogical to own an older car. This is for emissions, and stimulus reasons. The short of it is that the older a car, the more you pay on taxes and registrations for it. Meaning in order to 'keep' an older car, you must either register it as an antique or show car. Registered as such, it can't be you main mode of transport. Meaning that most one car families will not be able to justify owning a older car.

Thus the car is sold for scrap, taken off the road and cut up so we Americans can buy them.

3sgte or 5sfe powered ?

Out of curiosity, since I banned you on Celicatech for stealing over $1000 dollars from members, did you ever complete those transactions?

Here is the thread if you are interested.

http://www.celicatech.com/forums/showthrea...4560&page=3

Members beware, this member has been banned from many sites for stealing money. His record here seems to be slightly better, but take into account there are members here claiming he took $500 for parts that he never shipped.

Frankly, I think he should be banned here as well as all the other sites.

uhh all celica's come with a/c. but yes the st is listed at 2415 pounds, that includes no abs.

Just because all Celicas you have seen have A/C doesn't mean they all came with A/C.

A/C was an option. Not all Celicas have them. I don't quote for 6th Gens, but the 5th was available without it.

The trim level has a lot to do with it.

If you have an ST model with no options, manual windows, no AC, no sunroof, etc... you will weigh a lot less. Chaos, my 5th Gen ST tips the scale at 2300lbs with me in her. She has gone on a minor diet.

I have seen 'stripped' hatches with the 5SFE that weigh in at 2500lbs.

Options and engine weight have A LOT to do with it.

As for how I know what Chaos weighs, unlike others who rely on random numbers thrown about, I weighed my car on a CAT certified freight scale.

A- Engine the car came equipped with.

T- Chassis code. All Front Wheel Drive and All Wheel Drive Celicas are T chassis, so is the Caldina.

2XX denotes the trim level, starting at 200, 201, 202, 203, 204 and the top trim, the 205. Not all trim codes are used. The T Chassis started at 160 with 4th Gen, 180 with the 5th and 200 with the 6th, the 7th is 230.

Thus a FWD Celica with an A series engine will always be a ATXXX where the following three digits correspond with the generation.

6th is AT200, 5th is AT180, 4th is AT160. Yes, there is such a thing as a 4th Gen with a 4AFE.

If a FWD Celica has an S series engine in it, it will be an STXXX where the following three digits correspond with the generation and trim level.

Only the ST was available with the A series, thus and A series equipped Celica will always be the lowest trim code. AT160, AT180 and AT200.

really? now i learned something. i though all GT4's were RHD.

I agree.

I know the ST165 and the ST185 are available in LHD. Both domestically and in certain parts of Europe.

However, I was under the impression that the ST205 was RHD only. I have never seen a factory LHD version.

QUOTE (OOBE @ Jan 9, 2010 - 8:22 PM) *
I don't hang out on CT 'cause I feel so out of place there, but I'll probably start going there after I finish my swap. All my peeps from celica.net are there. biggrin.gif

The fragmentation that befell the community after the fall of Celica.net is what hurt us the most. Everyone has a new home now. Most of use went to the other site, giving us a the highest concentration. It is a different place now than it was, and it is home.

There are very very few of us that have been in the community as long as the OGs, so to speak. Remembering Celica.net in it's heyday as well as the fall.

The hardest part is all of the separate communities that came afterwards, all focused on the same car. That is what makes it hard for folks like me to frequent them all, thus leaving us, like you and me, to go to different sites to find home.

The nature of the car though, that is what endears it to us and perpetuates the community, bringing in new blood to replace those that take an exit to a new horizon.

Myself, my Celica; Chaos in particular, is a car that sparked an emotion in me that can not be repeated. Giving me a sense of loyalty to the name, as well as the particular car. Putting other 'projects' to pasture and leading me, even in my mature age to pursue what many consider to be a 'girl's car' or a 'Boy Racer.'

It is this emotion that we all feel, thus giving a personality to a machine, and by doing so, giving them a life of their own.

So now that I have taken this thread completely off topic, I will state this, regardless of the public opinion, or the marketing ploy meant to portray the Celica as a 'Girl's Car,' I respectfully disagree and instead offer the term 'Enthusiast's Car.'

Be the intended owner male or female.

Eh, I only lurk here from time to time. I am on nearly all the Celica sites, I just spend more time on some than others. I am still around though.

The Celica was marketed toward Women from `86 onward. The Alltrac/GT4 wasn't marketed much, but what marketing there was for it was aimed at men, particularly race fans.

However, the 6th Gen, lacking a USDM GT4 variant was marketed toward women.

As for assigning gender toward a car, it has a lot to do with the car's perceived personality. Both of my Celicas are Female; Chaos and Mudhoney. However, my `67 New Yorker is male; Socrates. The difference here is the stately presence he exudes. While both Chaos and Mudhoney are chomping at the bit and raring to tear up the next corner, Socrates commands respect from his mere presence. It is in my mind that both Chaos and Mudhoney are young girls thriving on the next experience that life has to offer, while Socrates has been there, seen it, and written the 'How To' manual on it.

This is just my opinion on the matter.

Here for a difference is my wife's.

She has owned two cars in her life. Both Buick Regals. Her first car, she named Dolly, because the car had a big long nose, similar to a renowned singers ample bosoms. This car was inherently female. However, her second Regal, she named Parton, in homage of her first car, which was named after the singer. This car however, is male.

Again, I think it is all in the perspective of the owner and the personality they assign to the car.

Without this assigned personality, a car is just a car, and as such an asexual mechanical mode of transport.

Being a 'Car Guy,' I can not accept that. My car is an extension of myself, and as such will have a personality unique to what I perceive of the car.

A lot of times you keys will get worn down, from being carried in you pocket to being used.

As such, when you get a copy made, it isn't going to be cut 100% to what needs to be.

The other possibility is that your tumblers have been worn down as well.

If you go to the dealership with your VIN# and Registration, they will be able to cut you a new key. However, it won't be a $1.37 like Wal-Mart charges.

The easiest way to tell is the engine.

The easiest way to tell the engine is by how it sits in the engine bay.

Does it sit straight up with the valve pan (the piece the 4 wires go into the middle of, spaced out every few inches) seeming parallel with the ground?

Or does it lean backwards toward the firewall (the piece of metal that separates the passenger cabin from the engine bay) with the valve pan laying at a backward angle?

If the engine sits straight up, it is the 7AFE 1.8L which comes in the ST (AT200.)

If the engine lays back at a cant, it is the 5SFE 2.2L, which comes in the GT (ST202.)

The STX and the GTX are dealer optioned STs and GTs.

That is it.

The options varied from dealer to dealer.

The options include, but were not limited to: Sunroof, premium allow wheels, air conditioning, power windows, cruise control and exterior options such as a spoiler and graphics.

That means than an STX or a GTX are not factory, but they are included 'Dealer Trim Options' same as how modern cars have 'Convenience Package Group A' or similar.

Other than being more optioned, they are no different than a normal ST or GT. They do exist. They are not a separate Trim Level.

And I have never heard of a pre facelift 5th Gen STX having 5 lugs from the dealer.

There were originally a pair of them. Owned by brothers. I am going by memory and what I know of the one brother.

The cars were built and sorted out as road racers in the late 70s and early 80s. This one would have been owned by the brother I don't know. However, the cars were built nearly identical.

These cars are well known to the older folks in the community.

The engine is new since I last saw it. However, the suspension and all else is well sorted and thought out.

I am not sure about the engine, and I have no opinion on that, although it is becoming rather popular in the 1rst Gens.

I don't agree with the price, and I would assume that this owner is owner #3 or higher. Other than the engine, I can tell you most positively, he didn't do all the work. Of the work that was done before he owned it, it is top notch, and I doubt any expense was spared.

I also don't see the price. Depending, I might see $15k tops being fair. But the swap could take it either way.

So Jim and I are going we are getting a cabin with some friends so we may have some extra space pm me if interested so we set up a plan. Can't wait smile.gif

I have to warn you about the cabins. Harry and Mindy (MR2Guru) will say the same.

The odds of there being a Rod Run (Grand/Shades of the Past, etc...) during this time of the year is very good. It is nearly a non-stop car show in Pigeon Forge during this time of the year. With that said, if you get a cabin up there, it is a total traffic jam. You will get in, but you won't get out.

The cabins are great if you plan on staying at the cabin, but trying to make the meet on time will be hard. Harry and Mindy were caught in it for nearly 4 hours last year before they decided they weren't gonna be able to meet up with everyone.

East Tennessee, Knoxville is close enough to say it though.

There is a post about it in this forum.

The Tail of the Dragon Run started as the Pigeon Forge Meet 7 or so years ago. The first year there might have been six cars. The second year there might have been 10. The third year there were 20.

Last year, we had a total car count of over 50. And that is not taking into account that most cars had two folks.

It happens in the Spring, before the summer. That way the traffic is lighter, the police presence it not as noticeable. That is not to say that they aren't out there, but they are there to do a job, and that job is to keep everyone safe. Even with folks getting pulled over (me) a good time was had by all.

The secret is not about going fast, or showing out. It is about good folks, with nice cars enjoying one another. The awesome roads are just a bonus.

Plus the Skyway is where the real fun is. There are no police, and the roads are more forgiving and not nearly as technical as the Dragon.

I understand that it is a long way for a lot of folks, and I don't want to pretend that the Dragon Run is the only meet out there. However, for those of you have have been in the community for any length of time, you are going to see some folks that have been here since the beginning of the internet revolution. That is the real secret of what makes the Dragon Run unique. That is why we have members drive out from Washington State, Colorado, California, New York, Chicago, Utah and Florida. Even if you don't drive out, you can fly out and ride with, we have folks that do that every year as well.

Anyways, I didn't want to derail the thread to plug a separate event, I just thought I might shed some light on why the Tail of the Dragon Run is considered what it is.

I would love to see something similar established on the West Coast, but I will tell you, it is a lot of work to get it together and get it such a large event. As far as sponsorship and the like... Well, I don't know, I have never gotten our meet sponsored, although we do have shops that come out and sell stickers and give advice (Phoenix Motorsports and Dr Tweak) as well as T-Shirts and the like. I just like the down home personal feel of it, and I have met a lot of GREAT folks. You would have to know to understand.

And frankly, that is why meets like this should happen. There are a lot of great people in our community, and dammit, everyone should know them.
