Nice work there, I think that's the best LED 3rd brake lens solution I've seen to date. Another aspect affecting the look is the distance of the LED strip from the lens surface, but this is largely defined by the length of the strip itself

81570-20230 covers the entire assembly, and costs less than $100 USD. I'll pull out my old lens in a little while and see if I can find an individual part number for the lens.

Hi Daniel, many thanks for that...I was then able to check on www.toyodiy.com and it looks like the lens isn't listed as a separate item. I'll check with my local dealer next week

As title, I'm looking for the part no. for the 3rd brake light lens. I dropped the one I've been using for years to make the mold
for my clear lenses and the corner chipped off. Rather than get another used one, I thought I'd splash out on a new one.

I've checked a couple of sites, but they ask for VIN no. which I don't have as I haven't got a Celica!

Help appreciated.

As many of you will appreciate, when you fit LED bulbs or LED panels to many lamp housings, you have problems with the light being
interrupted by the patterning on the lens.

You can see what I mean in this photo I took many years back of my clear copy of the 3rd brake lens with LED strip

I've been asked before if I could make them without the pattern, but polishing it out didn't seem workable.

Then I had a light bulb moment smile.gif ....... I had a spare lens on the shelf, so I tried carefully pouring another layer of clear resin across
the inner surface, and this was the result...

So, what do you guys think?......if anyone's interested, I can make them up to order. Price would be £25 GBP + £4.95 to cover PayPal
and standard Air Mail

I recently trialled a new resin by casting a few pairs of my best selling lenses. The results were excellent, but lacked the absolute
clarity of my regular product. Not something anyone would notice, just me being super picky. Supplied with amber bulbs,
one pair only, one off price £30 GBP/pair + £5.50 to cover PayPal and standard Air Mail worldwide. This is less than half what I
was charging 10 years ago!

P.M me for payment details

Hey - thanks for the heads up on these. I've just made a new mold and will build up a small stock so they're ready to order.

Be interesting to see what bulb you go with. The LED bulb shown below is about 7 years old with only forward facing elements. The
latest ones with multiple SMD's are much brighter and give a much wider spread.

I can't remember the details, but there are 2 types of bulb fitting - one is the standard opposite pin bayonet fitting and the other is
the large wedge type.

I believe you only need to use the expensive CAN type bulbs if they're being used in a circuit which has a 'bulb fail' warning lamp or something similar.

Good example of this is the 3rd brake light. On some model/year/markets(GT4's in particular) which have this function, if you fit a regular LED bulb/strip, the brake light fail lamp on the dash will light. Another ghetto solution to this is to just remove the bulb from the dash!

Do these come with just the lenses or the whole housing / whatever it's called?

just the lenses including amber bulbs - they refit to the original housings. I also take the opportunity to re spray the invariably dull inside with chrome/silver spray which brightens the whole effect.

how does this seal like the oem ones?

Using the original mastic which softens when oven heated. Any left on the amber lens can be picked off whilst warm and poked back into the channel running round the edge of the housing.

Thought it was about time I gave a reminder about my OEM style clear front turn lenses. Individually hand made to order, price is £59.50 GBP/pair inc amber bulbs + £7.50 to cover standard Air Mail and PayPal fee. Lead time 2-3 days from order

Shame, this is what they look like fitted.....

I can get the door lenses, price would be £12 GBP inc standard Air Mail. I've ordered a pair as I needed some other bits, let me know if you want them, if not, no problem. This is a one off, so I'll only supply further pairs if ordered with my fronts.

Bulbs are standard bayonet, opposite pins, like these....

http://www.phoenixautobulbs.co.uk/pr/py21w-382y/

although I prefer to use silver bulbs to avoid the 'fried egg' effect

Thanks for the reply, do you happen to know where these lenses are available in Australia? Toyota themselves don't sell them here frown.gif

If you want a more OE look in keeping with the original styling of the car, I make these to order. the lenses easily refit to your housings

The door lenses were available in the U.K - I bought 10 pairs about 6 years ago which I sold with the fronts. They were about £3 each IIRC

If you're interested, I can see if I can still get them. If you buy my fronts at £59.50/pair GBP, i'll supply the door lenses at the current cost price

Chrome on the projectors and other stuff like them is done by electro-plating I believe.

Close - it's actually done by vaporised metal in a vacuum chamber being deposited onto the electrically charged piece.

Box, you're right, there's several steps, see here for the process......
