That is great news! As for the ECU and plugs, does it matter what car its off as long as it is for the 1mz, or does it also have to be from a Camry? If so I have seen some pretty decent priced ones. I can ask the seller if I may have the EVAP system as well for the swap so I wouldn't have to worry about CEL poppin up.

The less the cost is the more real this swap is sounding and it is awesome!

I saw this Camry on Ebay and it looks like it is not the VVT one which is awesome! This engine comes with the engine, wiring harness, and the ECU all in one. It does have 150k miles on it but I would clean it up and make it pretty again and make sure everything was working.

I Will definitely be looking at the 1mz now! smile.gif

I have seen a lot of Camry's in the area that I can take from. Will I need to take the transmission from the Camry as well or am I able to match the engine with the GT transmission in the Celica?

At the very least you'll need the engine, harness, and ECU. While you're at it you might as well get new mounts and an uprated clutch kit. It does look like a gen III but I'd try and find one that's already over here in the states to save the headache of importation and etc...

Another consideration would be the 1MZ swap as they're a dime a dozen over here and cheap, plus it'd be no different than going to the parts house and getting parts for a Camry versus hunting high and low for expensive parts overseas should something go out. Smaay, Lamont, and Kurt have done the swap on here and between them all everything is covered in good detail. Just something to think about anyway, especially since it sounds like you're on a budget.

So I am looking at 1mz's and I found this one that is less and free shipping which is awesome!

I am hoping this would be the engine you are talking about. tongue.gif

Get a st205 clip. That's someone else's swap.

The engine I posted is the only engine clip I've seen on Ebay besides a lot of MR2 clips (which I don't think will work too well) haha

You are correct. I am on a budget since I don't have a lot to play with after everything. frown.gif My end goal is to have a fun fast daily driver with around 300+ hp. I have seen the 1mz posts before but never thought about doing it myself. That is definitely something to think about! With a 1mz swap, would it be as simple as a 3s? just drop it it, plug and play? I will definitely do research on the 1mz!

Hello Ladies and Gents!

I have had my Celica for a few years now and I was wanting to get more power as a lot of us do! I have been looking at getting a 3s-gte engine along with a Celica GT so I could do a project car and still have a daily driver! I do have a couple of questions though... Below I have listed both the engine clip I'm looking at as well as the Celica GT I am looking at to do the project on.

http://phoenix.craigslist.org/wvl/cto/5119580086.html

The first thing I would like to know is what generation 3s that is? I was looking around but I was unable to see which one it looked like
I was also hoping that the engine would go straight into the GT without any modifications and I could use a lot from the GT and still be able to use the engine. I have seen a lot of posts saying that you are able to do that but I wasn't sure if it mattered on the generation of engine. I would like to use the stock and ECU to cut back on costs since I don't have a lot of money. tongue.gif
After I get everything in the car, would I need to tune the car to get everything working properly with the new engine? If so, what's a good tuner to get?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

Hello again!

So I have put my engine in after a month or so of working on it and it is starting up. We got the timing correct and have everything in place but the last time we started it up, we heard a vacuum leak. We have looked at all the hoses and there is always one that is not hooked up to something. We have tried just covering them off with a hose and a bolt but that doesn't work. Currently, we have 3 hose ports that are not connected to anything from the fuel intake and the vacuum line. We have looked at the diagram and have hooked things up the way they are in that as well and still there is something missing. This is our first time working on a Toyota and the thing boggling us is that, on the diagram, the air control valve is all the way to the left of the engine, but we cannot locate it over there. If someone can tell me where that is on the engine I can probably hook everything up and start it! When we looked at it last, my buddy said that is was near the starter and the transmission. Is that correct?

If there is anything that can help I would forever be grateful!! I love my Celi so much and all I want to do is get behind the wheel and drive her again. If pictures are needed I can do that but I am not too mechanically inclined so some of the vocabulary you may use might not get to me.

Help me 6GC, you are my only hope!

So some background:

About a month and a half ago, my engine started to make a very loud knocking noise on the way to my gf's parent's house for dinner. It would stall when I didn't push on the gas and stall while driving. I got there safe and had her dad look at it. We checked oil and everything we could without taking it apart and couldn't find anything. We drove it back home and it stalled and wouldn't turn back on about a block away. I have since ordered a new engine and all day yesterday we worked on getting the current engine pulled. We have pretty much everything pulled so far but are running into problems (especially since we are doing it from the ground on jack stands).

We are very close to pulling it out but we are wanting to NOT pull the transmission. He was saying that if we could get to the flywheel bolts we could pull the engine block off and when we put the new engine in all we have to do is line it up. This is my first EVER project and his first Toyota. I was wondering if you lovely ladies and gentlemen could help us with this task and kind of tell me if we can pull the engine out without the trans and simply line the new engine up.

Any help on what could make this swap easier would be fantastic! Our plan, when we pull the engine out, is to switch the working (and better looking) parts from the current engine and put them on the new engine.

I have done a lot of research this weekend and it looks like it will be roughly the same amount of time and money for both options. I have looked at many different posts to get a mock parts lists ready and for the GT swap I am looking at roughly $4,000. I could not find how much new Shifter Cables and Axles will be though so it may be higher. It is hard when many parts lists are older so they don't exist anymore. frown.gif

Yes this is my daily driver and my only car. That is the trouble I am having. I am saving money up slowly so that I can get parts but I don't know an exact budget. I was planning (if it was the right decision) to get a GT from Craig's List with the money from my tax refund and slowly building it from there, starting with the engine. I don't have to do much with a GT engine bay for the swap so it makes it easier to deal with. I set aside money every month to save for the car but I am not sure exactly what parts I would need for a full build. I have done much research but the parts lists I've seen aren't visible anymore, so it's hard to start budgeting correctly. frown.gif

Hello everyone!

I have been on this site for a while now and I admire all of the amazing work you all have done with your 6th gens. Right now, I am looking to do something like that. Whether it be to Turbo/Supercharge my current 7A-FE setup, or to engine swap to a 3S-GTE. I am not mechanically inclined in any way but I do like to get my hands dirty and learn new things. I know either way will be a great amount of work and money but I am willing to do it. I have seen that there are differences in the ST and the GT bays that make it hard to fit the 3S-GTE without some major work. I have been looking into getting a GT and swapping the engine out from there so that it would be a little bit easier.

If you guys could help me see how much each option would be roughly I would greatly appreciate it! I do have a couple mechanics that are friends who could help me with what I want to do so that saves me a lot of money for labor! I appreciate any help or advice that I can get from you!
