QUOTE(DeathWing @ Aug 5, 2006 - 6:22 PM) well here is the deal....maybe in 1 or 2 months i may have the chance to change my 6g celi st hatchback 95 (auto)for a 2g (97) mitsubishi eclipse gst(manual), i was analizing the pros and cons of the car change considerating price and stuff (if i get the eclipse i wont be able to sell it for a while), im thinking about getting the eclispe but while i decide i thought that it might be a good idea to post it here so i can read your opinions why you would or wouldnt do it... both cars are in excellent condition any experiences? opinions? thoughts? are welcome (here is a list of things i consider) -the mitsu has almost double power considerating its a lil more heavier -mitsu engine...you cant give it even 1 extra hp or engine blows, comes to the limit, very low mechanical upgrades, in the other hand the celi is fully customisable -the always economy vs preformance and power vs durability of components -externally the mitsu its a lot less externally modificable -the celi has 1 minor hit wich i think it has no colateral effect on the car, the mitsu is hit free dont know where you got your information from but you cant give the mitsu 1 more hp or it blows? where the hell did you hear that from? the 4g63t engine loves boost, slap a 16g and a front mount in there and youll be pushing 300 alongside other subtle upgrades.I had about 315 on mine.Personally id pick the celica bc gas prices are goign up, but when it comes to modifying between the cars eclipse>celica.Theres so many choices for the eclipse rather than the celica, just get turbo upgrades from the evo and youll be goign fast as hell. |

keep your celica man, i had a 1994 celica hatchback and the car was awesome.I powerslid through ever tur i took, ran on an empty tank for weeks, drove it everywhere, barely ever changed the oil and basically beast the living **** out of the car.It just kept giving back, kept running every day after day. Then i also felt the car was too slow and traded it up and bought ym self a dsm.Eclipse gst, fast ass hell, 115 more hp than my manual st celica with the exhaust, cai, and boost controller. But you should be aware that goign fast cost money.I changed the oil every 2700 miles, babied the car and yet my tranny went out, the turbo died, and i had numerous ppl try and break into the car.I sold it 3 months after i got it and got a prelude which i love but i still miss my old celica. So basically be happy with what you have, they can be made into fast sexy cars, it just takes time and a whole lot of patience. |

QUOTE(Glitch001 @ Jun 15, 2006 - 3:01 AM) I wouldnt say its a fast car, the 5s isnt a very strong motor ( as far as racing goes ) The 3s, 4g63, sr20det all strong imported 4 cylinder. The celica (unless its an all trac or gt4) is slow, but its a BEAUTY of a daily driver. The looks cannot be compared, ya the liftbacks are 2400lbs and convertables 2700 relativly light, but no power to back the weight up. Fwd also hinders the preformance a lot. Unless your talking a stroked 3s with a 5s crank and so on and so on, but still bottom line the car is slow without modifcation. Doesnt stop me from loving the hell out of my car. But look at the other options within the same price range. Eclipse Gs-t 2700lbs with a boost loving motor. (crank walk issue) Mazda rx7 at 2800lbs (same reliablity issue) ect. ect. The celica turns on everytime I want it to, I have absolutly no complaints. the 5s is a reliable motor, doesnt require as much attention as my 3s does in the least. In no way am I bad mouthing this car, you seem to LOVE your car but there is a difference between love and denial. These aren't ultimate driving machines with unlimited potential. In your previous posts it seems you like to street race and compare car vs. car, but the ability of the celica on the 7a and 5s is limited in the means of horsepower (volumetic efficency) its just lacking. But it wasnt designed to be a race car, thats why toyota has the all-trac and gt4...sex on wheels. not all eclipse gsts or gsx's have crankwalk, mines still runnign strong at 80k ![]() |

About the eBay auction, if the seller is selling just the engine, it's not worth it. Unless you're comfortable with sourcing parts. in that case, know anywhere where i can find a 3sge engine? |

QUOTE(Dr_Tweak @ Mar 22, 2006 - 9:02 AM) Yeah the silvertop swap in the Celica ST isn't bad at all, there's a few out there, I know because I did the wiring harnesses for them ![]() Anyway, yes, you can use the stock 7A tranny. The blacktop is not really easier or harder to swap, but it's newer and more expensive... and more powerful. -Doc yeah thats probably the route that ill end up taking..thnaks for everyyones help..oh and any idea on total cost of the swap? |

QUOTE(Kwanza26 @ Mar 22, 2006 - 1:23 AM) I on the other hand think this swap is common enough amougst the Corolla folk that you don't *need* to buy a clip... but it's nice to have one. The coil and ignitor can be sourced from different cars... along with all of the needed plugs for wiring. The only real parts you need, is the engine itself with neccesary attachments (dizzy, manifolds, etc)... and the ecu. yeah this is what i was hoping, i can probably have more time like maybe a few more weeks but it is my daily driver so i cant have it being out more than month, and as for the 7age route, i looked into that and i kind of wasent feeling it, ym current motor was swapped in w/ 80k and now i have no idea how much it has..more than likely around 85-87, but thanks for all your help ![]() what are common problems with running this setup? i read that i could use my stock st tranny w/ the 4a-ge, this is true right? but yeah liek i said before thnaks |

well after getting hit and run my idea for the beams motor went down the drain, i figred while its in the shop i might as wel get it swapped w/ the 4age 20 valve silvertop, anyways my question is how much do these swaps tend to run? and where can i find a 4age silvertop engine?oh yeah and time is a problem too the swap cant any longer than a couple of weeks.I basically just want to know whatt i would need?(clip or engine better?dont see the point in the clip since its a celica not a corolla) for the swap and what all neeeds to be done.i loooked around but couldnt seem to find anything:( anyways thanks in advance |
