The other day i had my dad drop off my 5th gen celica at a mechanics to get an estimate. The car wouldnt start. It would crank, but not turn over. And today we get a phone call from the mechanic saying the car is fixed and it is going to be 700 dollars to fix it. 700?!?!?! for 700 dollars i woulda bought a new engine for my 6th gen celica that has been sitting for a year... or for 1200 i coula have picked up another 5th gen celica with no issues. Because mine needs a new windshiled (insurance does not cover it) the car blows blue smoke, and i know he didnt fix that on the car because he would need to order the parts, which is impossible to recieve and fix in one day. So theres still plenty of money that needs to be stuck into the car. What are my options? theres no way im paying 700 dollars when i was never even given an estimate, or told what was even wrong with the car. unfortunatly i have to go to work and wont be able to check this during the day, So if anyone with some good information on what i could do, text it to me, also posting here will be just as good but itll be awhile till i can check it. Okay. heres the Downlow. I was driving on the freeway, and my oil light came on, i figured i would still be able to make it home to put some oil in. i was wrong. A few seconds later, the car started making a weird noise as i was traveling down the I-17 at 80 MPH. i decided to pull off at the next exit and at the red light the car shut off, Almost like if i stalled it when i was learning to drive stick. I pulled into the gas station there, and put some oil in it. but the damage was done. So my question to all of you, since i know absolutely NOTHING about cars. Does this mean i need a whole new engine? The car runs fine without clicking untill i get over 2,000 RPMS. Then the clicking starts. Ive heard from people that the enginge is completely done and i need to start saving for a very pricey replacement. Is there a way i can fix this? with limited knowledge? or no? thanks for your help. Luckilly i have my 5GC, but it is also having a problem. Its power steering. Its not working, i have to force it into turning, and only weighing 130 at 5"11. u can bet its pretty damn hard for me to do. It just started happening today. And the power steering fluid is almost full, but i topped it off to make sure. Do i need a new pump? if so , how much is that going to be to buy? and could i replace it myself? Thanks in advance; Jake Black Limited ST |

QUOTE(zachattack15 @ Sep 11, 2006 - 12:51 PM) I work at an automotive shop here in Baton Rouge. You have to test drive the cars after your done working on it to make sure everything works fine. I'll work on a car and then go pick up lunch with it as im test driving it. A mechanic cant just fix something then park the car for you to pick up. very true. in his situation, this applies. but mine it does not, considering it was just paint, and u dont need to test drive paint. |

okay just back from maaco. When i got there, the car was sitting out front, showing off what a sexy beast she is. while standing out there, i had 2 people who walked passed, say how good it looked and that it was a nice looking car. made me feel good, but then again sad, cuz it doesnt run. lol. so i go inside, talk to the manager, he gets the keys, and we go outside. He tries to start the engine, and the whole car shakes back and forth. like you can feel the cylindars moving and shaking the whole car, watching the engine jump around in the engine bay i stepped back, hoping nothing was gunna fly off and hit me thats how bad it was shaking. the car wont turn over and just slowly dies from when you turn the key. it tries really hard to get going. Finally we got it started by pushing the gas and clutch in while starting it. it instantly smelled like i was jet skiing. the aroma of gasoline filled the air instantly with a hint of some smoke. as soon as i notice the smell of the smoke a cloud of smoke comes at us from the exhaust and alittle from up underneith the engine??? he revvs the engine and it is shaking horribly, at that moment i realized i should have been video taping it on my phone, but it didnt come to me until we had already shut it off. Their mechanic said it could be the fuel pump. to jfrost, it does matter what kind of lawyer i have, because we are ttrying to get all the money back for the paint + compensation for any damages, that is IF the engine needs to be replaced. They are however, looking at the car today about the fuel pump /if thats not it, we have a mechanic who does work on rally trucks for my fathers boss' company. Maaco would not be doign the swap if it comes down to the point we need a swap. I have already contacted a JDM engine swap shop here in arizona right on bell road, only a few miles from my house. They said it wouldnt be much more for a complete swap from 3sgte if the whole 7afe needs to be replaced. Talking to my lawyer like i said, we are trying to get full money back from the paint, and compensation for any damages or whatever its going to cost for a new engine, that is only IF the engine needs replacement. if its somenthing as easy as the fuel filter, we wont be taking them to court. but the paint looks good. heres some pics with my camera phone on my razr. theres no pics of the front bumper because they are repainting it, it got kinda blurry under the clear coat, so they are redoing that. other than that it looks good, what do you think? sorry bad quality. and it was sunny out. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

yeah for the paintjob i payed for i guess its their top of the line or whatever. it seriously looks good. no orange peeling, no bubbles, no drips. no nothing. but now the car doesnt run, lol. im taking my digital camera when i go there tommorow morning and ill take pictures of the paint for you guys. and yes, they removed the fenders, front bumper and spoiler and crap to paint it. then wetsanded it and crap before the clear coat? i dont know but the maaco here by my house, is different, its actually nice. so we will see if the car runs tommorow or not. i talked to a friend whose a mechanic, and he said something could have just gotten wet, i dont know what, and that would cause it to not run. and that it would take a day or two to dry out and then it would be back to normal, so im hoping thats what it is. cuz if i have to wait another 3 months to drive this car cuz they need to put a new engine in it, ill be pissed. but if they do need to replace it, it WILL be replaced with a 3sgte from http://www.jdmenginedepot.com/catalog/prod...99ee8d12ec3ec92 ill update you guys tommorow. goodnight. |

QUOTE(sinner96ST @ Sep 9, 2006 - 10:19 PM) get a lawyer. there is no other advice. you'll pay a little bit, but they'll pay more for the repairs. the fact that they took your car for a 5 mile joyride is completely unacceptable, and is borderline thievery. we will see how badly damaged the engine is. if its "totaled" they will be replacing it, and probabbly with a 3sgte, those whorse. i will fight them also not only for damages, but also for the paint, i was supposed to sell my 93 5gc but now i cant, because of this BS. i mgoing to try and get as much out of this as possible. this is a huge inconvenience. |

So, heres alittle story that might get some gears turning... i wish mine did. Earlier this week. tuesday to be exact, the 6gc got dropped off at a maaco for a nice 2,000 dollar paint job. their "best". knowing, maaco has had alot of issues with their paintjobs and what not, still sceptical as i dropped it off. Had one of those feelings you get, like you know something is goign to go wrong... They said it would be dont by friday. Friday comes, no phone call. kinda upset, but understandable. so today, while at school, my parents drive to go pick it up. And say the paint looks amazing. took camera phone pictures and txtd them to me. and it looks amazing from what i see. knowing my dad, being a perfetionest, he would not pay them if there was anything wrong with the paint. So while looking over the paint, the manager comes up to my parents and tells them something quite frustrating to us all. My dad one, compliments and thanks him on what a great job they did with the paint job. and he says thank you, but.... He handed my father the keys to the car, and it starts up and sounded alittle weird. then makes some crazy noises says my mom and then stops kinda, like if the car stalled, but in slow motion. and then would not turn back on..... hmm? wtf happened? the guy told my dad that there was something wrong with the enginge and that on MONDAY, they will look at it. When we dropped the car off, we took the carbon fiber hood off, knowing, maaco, they **** up, we dont want them painting this 400 dollar hood. thinking the car would be inside the garage while they worked on it. the car sat through a horrible rain / dust / wind storm with no hood, and now does not run at all. and whats even worse, they want us to pay for the repairs that they caused to my car. And now i have to wait untill monday for them to Even LOOK at what they did to it. but by all means, the paintjob seriously looks amazing. but the fact that my car is now not running. really pisses me the **** off. may i add, the car also has 5+ more miles on the car, than it did when we dropped it off. joy riding anyone? |

so, been begging and begging my mom to let me drive her 350z since she got it. and never has she let me go drive it. well once, to the grocery store, taking all 25 mph streets on the way there. so tonight, while cleaning out my 5th gen, i had to move her car. and it sat there, staring at me for 5 hours while i cleaned the 5th gen. by the time i was done, it was time to move it back in the garage. so of course, i had to take the long way to the garage... out of the neighborhood, onto the access roads, around the neghiborhood to the accessroads again and back to the garage. and HOLY HELL!!! that is one mean car. 300 HP throwing you back into the seat at 7000 rpm hitting 100 MPH in only a couple seconds on a access road not even 1/2 a mile long. i instantly fell in love with the car even more than i did already. the 350z , IS my next car. bad points, cant see crap. the whole car is one big blind spot.... but it looks good. i think ima go steal it aggain. bye. |

QUOTE(x_itchy_b_x @ Sep 6, 2006 - 8:07 PM) yeah so, im on the highway and i gun it and the car pulls so friggen hard. then i look down at my boost guage and the needle is hitting the pin just past the 20 psi mark. so im like WTF! and let off the gas, i get off the highway and pull up to a light so i can go across the street into a parking lot to pop the hood and check whats going on. at the light i hear nasty loud sounds, hard to discribe, sounded like it was coming from the block. so i pop the hood and check it out, apparently my boost controller line cracked off. so i was running full max boost it was nuts. so i fixed the line by cutting the crackeded part off just so i can get to work. (i fixed it later with brand new fuel line rubber, good stuff) start the car back up and i hear that sound again. turns out i blew the gasket between the turbo and the manifold right out. probly a good thing since it was less air spooling the turbo already at 20 psi. but w/e the engine seems fine no noise other than the exhaust leak. and the funny thing is the car was nuts at 20psi now i want that power all the time lol. so yeah. this only makes me want to put a larger turbo on... (with supporting mods, yes i know everything i need to do, not just slap a turbo on) yeah.... end of story. off topic, but look at your sig. see the girls face in your cars windshield? creeepy. right at the drivers side. that place is haunted. i noticed it once , cuz i have that full picture as my desktop background, and if u look at it, it clearly looks like a girls face. creeeepy |

well finally. after 8 months of work. its time to get painted... some of you MAY remember what happened, some of you might not. early january this year, i got in a car wreck with and illegal immigrant. going 15 MPH on the Interstate 17 on my way home from work, he randomly slams on his brakes, and i rear end him. Being here illegally in the states, the wreck will not be on my record, insurance did not go up because they would not cover it. Every repair was out of pocket. And done at home except for the bentframe work, which was done at a body shop. Finding out to be cheaper to buy a body kit, fenders, and a carbon fiber hood then buying stock parts, thats what i did. started late february on the project. remocing all the damaged parts, fxing what could be fixed, and trashing what could not. finally after 2 months of back order on the fenders, all the parts got shipped out. once recieved, it took me and my father awhile to get everything perfect. Neither of us having ANY automobile repair history, we went at it. learning alot on the way to what we have ended up with. it was a long path but well worth the wait. Now waiting for the body shop to call me back saying the car is ready to be picked up after a nice all black paint job. (sorry these pictures are craaaap, with camera phone. i have many in progress pictures somewhere from my camera, and once the car is back ill take some with the new paint thanks for all the help from everyone with my questions. its been a long journey, and we have learned alot. now we need another project, besides the fiberglass enclosure we are working on thanks again to everyone that helped. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() alittle before the primer. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() new speaker install ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hood and front end on!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() dmg ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

okay, awhile back, i got a ticket for reckless driving. the officer said i was going 60 in a 40, which i know that i wasnt. and he did not get me on radar. he got me for reckless driving, illegal lane change, faiulre to use blinker, and following to closely. Today, was my court date, and i went in. They gave me Two options. Either, take a plea aggreement, pay 500 dollars, plus go to a aggressive driving school. Or plead not guilty, and come back another time, talk to a attourney, deside if i want to plead not guilty, or take the plea aggrement. My mother , who still treats me as im a child, doesnt want me to take the plea, because of insurance rates going up, and i wouldnt be able to afford insurance? instead she insisted i pay 4000 for some lame ass lawyer to get the **** dropped. but i cant afford 4000 either. do i fight it? do i get a lawyer? do i take the plea and say guilty? what do i do? need hhelp, please. |
