QUOTE(WannabeGT4 @ Jul 26, 2006 - 11:07 AM) Currens have different headlights than our Celicas hence the different name. Japan had both Celica coupes and Currens. Celica coupes must be a rare Japanese car then. I could import just about any Japanese car I want (within $$$ reason) and I've never seen one. |

I apologize for this not being a 6g topic but am kinda stuck as to what to do so any productive info will be appreciated. Anyway, here's the story: My dad owns a 1992 Suburu Legacy GT with something like 350,000kms on the clock. Recently the ignition has started being retarded and upon moving the knock sensor to a new location has reduced the problem. Another factor that reduced the problem was using a higher octane fuel. Does anyone know how to fix this problem or even bypass the knock sensor? Removing the knock sensor enirely doesn't work. Also he is running a twin WRX chipset system (however that works). |

haha, I don't think you've ever seen a Japanese cat before...they're clogged before they're even used. Performance increase is anywhere from 5-15% depending on the vehicle. I'll try and get some dyno readings for ya. otherwise you'll have to wait till I get my exhaust done (no idean when I'll be able to afford that!) |

So basically, by increasing the pipe size I'll get more torque and power at higher rpm and by keeping the standard pipe i will have less hp but better low down torque? Part way there? So if I'm limited to traveling at 60 m/h over a 145 mile trip and my revs are sitting at the 3k mark, what size piping should I have to give me good economy but still maintain enough torque to make it over the range? |

Yea, that's almost what I'm gonna do with my 3s, although, I'll only use 2.25 inch pipe as I need that added back pressure for cruising over the mountain range twice a week. (again, as per TRD recommendations for my particular circumstance) |

1210kg if I'm right?? Yes I suppose your right, it's on the heavier range of lightweight vehicles over here tho, and I bought one because I do around 600 miles traveling and needed a "heavier" car for better cruising. And It does just that, now I'm looking at ways of overtaking slow traffic a bit faster, i.e. get the cat taken out. As for the power thing...the japs are VERY heavy on the environment thingy that their cats are like trying to blow through a winter grade duvet |

QUOTE(Cutrara @ Feb 13, 2006 - 4:34 PM) 10%? I highly doubt that. Actually, my last car, A 1985 Toyota Corona GT, Had the 1st gen 3s-ge and celica running gear in it (completely factory btw) (and if your interested it had the ST162 frame...try finding that on a 4-door sedan corona |

That's sad news guys, makes me appreciate living in a place where we leave our doors unlocked 24/7, best of luck with insurance/repairs/revenge. |

This is rather fascinating, I've only recently bought my celica ssIII with the 3s-ge engine(3rd gen) and am finding some interesting things about it. I made a few phone calls regarding exhaust systems and Toyota Racing Development recommend a 60mm (2.34 inch) pipe with a 100mm tip (4 inch). Going to a larger pipe size than that will actually reduce performance because it reduces backpressure required to maintain torque. You can't have added horsies without torque...IMO, TRD spend tens of thousands of $$$ developin these systems and know what they're talking about. And as for the cat...in New Zealand we are currently still allowed to remove the cat and replace with straight through piping (+10% more power for me |
