QUOTE(lagos @ May 10, 2006 - 1:47 AM) your right, black cars are VERY hard to keep clean, but i hear white is even harder. White is easy. They look clean for a long time after you wash them... ...until you park next to a *clean* white car. Then you look like a slob. ![]() |

QUOTE(presure2 @ Apr 27, 2006 - 8:44 AM) power understeer can be a good thing. I hate sounding ignernt, but what do you mean by this? Turning the wheels too tight for the corner and powering thru so they slide? I was going to autocross a couple months ago, but the local SCCA lost the location. All races on hold until further notice. ![]() |

Thanks for the advice, guys. It finally just wouldn't run at all, so I pulled it to the dealer. Turns out, the thermostat was bad and stuck open (closed?) Anyway...according to the tech, it was on "full cool" all the time and never got up to operating temperature. Plus a sensor wire was damaged. It runs much better now. I'd say it was fixed, but the engine light popped on again (but with no accompanying symptoms) this morning. :-\ |

1996 Celi GT Hatch (Manual) After it gets good and warmed up (not right off the bat), the motor skips & stutters like crazy. Then, if I let the RPMs drop, it just quits...and it won't start up until it's sat and cooled down for about an hour. This makes for a lousy commute. In the last week, it's had a tune up w/ plugs, wires, regulator, & dist. cap. The mechanic tried a new coil & ignitor on it, but no change. Any ideas? I sure appreciate any help. |

My black '94 GT *was* named "Lil' Bandit" after Snake's car on the Simpsons. ![]() ...I was gonna run with that theme and get the gold firebird decal from Smokey & the Bandit on the hood. Then a big truck ruined my plan. And my car. My new-to-me white '96 GT has not earned it's name yet, unless "Frustrating Money Pit" is a good name. |

QUOTE(presure2 @ Apr 18, 2006 - 10:35 AM) its listed on the sticker thats on the hood. Easy answer. Thanks! I read about that 5hp loss. I wouldn't be too concerned except that with the Celica's already low hp, that works out to be almost a 4% loss. ![]() |

My mechanic is having a hard time finding the right part for my '96 GT. He thinks that it is a California-emissions model, and that's making the part harder to find (I think it's the coil.) According to the Experion Autochek I got when I bought it, the car was originally sold in SD and ended up in GA. How can I find out for sure? Is there a VIN list? Sorry if this is an easy one. I couldn't find the answer. I think my mechanic may just be inept. |

QUOTE(frosty @ Feb 28, 2006 - 12:49 PM) What all have you done (plan to do) to your celica and civic? Not much, really...just a K&N filter and a set of take-off wheels from a current GT-S. You can't change anything significant if you want to run stock class, which I will probably do for at least a full season. If I really get into it, the next step is a 2nd set of wheels fitted with race compound tires, then some adjustable shocks. |

QUOTE(frosty @ Feb 28, 2006 - 12:24 PM) Hmm, that sounds fun. I'd enjoy doing something like that but my clutch is slighly slipping when I gas it to hard. Where @ in b'ham do you live? I used to live down in centerpoint and pinson. Now I'm about 30 min. north from there. I live in Alabaster. They run the races at the Hoover met parking lot. Had to replace my clutch last year @ 170,000 miles. It seems to be in good shape, and deserves a little abuse for what it cost me. As for getting hurt...the speeds in Solo II are low enough that the only thing that gets hurt are the cones. ![]() |

Here in Birmingham, the SCCA group is holding their annual Solo II school this weekend, and it will be my first time out on the track. I went and watched their "Test n' Tune" day about a week ago, and it looks like a total blast. Im psyched about it, and from a newbie POV I think it's very cool that you're not required to "run with the big dogs" in order to have fun...running in the stock class means I don't have to jump headlong into modding just to have fun. They were running everything from tuner STi's and Mini Coopers to your basic family sedans. Computer timing, good organization. All very cool. I think the Celica will be a fun car for this kind of thing...might never be the fastest, but plenty respectable in the corners. Anyway...Hello to the forum. Heads up for those of you in the area. Autocross stories & advice welcomed! |
