That's good. Its probably just new seal time. If its a leak near the transmission, it has to be the rear main seal. Might want to look by the crank pulley too just to be sure your front main seal is not a problem.

Was there still oil in the oil pan / did the dipstick read ok? Did you run the motor with a super low amount of oil and kill it?

Like the others said, bad seals aren't a death sentence, and they can be replaced as long as it wasn't ran with little to no oil. My 7afe has a leaky seal somewhere (I think, doesn't seem to burn any), but I've just been putting in a quart every 500-700 miles and its been ok. Just havn't gotten around to doing a complete diag on the problem.

Didn't think of that. Sounds like a easy and cheap way to do it.

Haha, I should have been a little more specific than the "pink stuff". biggrin.gif Its the Toyota/Aisin Super Long Life Coolant. I probably spent too much on it when I could have used Zerex Asian, but I have a good relationship with my local dealership and like to support them.

I definitely know where you're coming from! smile.gif I've been there with a MR2t a few years back. Some parts, you can get away with salvage, and some not. I'm definitely not an expert by any means, so maybe that radiator you have there will work just fine with a little prep. Was the radiator pulled from a Celica? Around my neck of the woods, I almost never see a 6gc in a salvage yard. Just a bunch of domestics and Hondas, haha! If its in working shape, that's a good find!

As for cleaning and testing it, you may be able to test it with a air compressor or shop vac if you have that available. Cap one end airtight somehow, and fill with water on the other. On the open end, clamp a hose on. On that hose, clamp the shop vac hose on, and turn the vac on using the blower side. It will push a a lot of volume but not too high of a pressure to see if there's any leaks. It doesn't need to withstand a real high pressure anyways, as your normal rad cap is usually 13 psi / .9 bar. This came to me the other day as I used a similar method to do a coolant flush on my ST. I did a few flushes, then I blew out the rest of the old coolant with the vac before filling it up with the pink stuff.

I hope the rest of your project goes well!

00295-00103 "Seal Packing" is what they call the OG black stuff. Its a little pricey, but it worked really freakin well last time I did an oil pan. Its some sort of black silicone, and I liked it (but I'm maybe a bit too biased towards OE stuff. smile.gif )

However, Permatex gray stuff like Bitter mentioned is probably just fine. I don't think I'd do a actual gasket. 3sgte, 5sfe, 7afe, and 4age all used the black goo when they we made, and work just fine.

Should be ok. I just put a new Denso in my ST, and it had the AT coolant lines capped off. Its a bit thicker than the old radiator that was in it, so it might be a little better than what originally was in it. All that said, unless you're getting an awesome deal on that salvage part, I'd say just get a new Denso rad. A little over a bill on Rock Auto, and you know it doesn't have a bunch of junk in it.

(Yesterday/today) Did the timing belt, water pump, radiator, hoses, tstat, flushed, and put the pink stuff in the red ST in preparation for the big move from OH/MI to El Paso.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I have definitely walked away from this one. Hopefully, I'll find something nice out there.

Hey guys, I've been looking to buy a gt hatch for some time now, as I've been missing my old one. I came across this one today http://cleveland.craigslist.org/ctd/4595446097.html and I got a chance to test drive it. Price isn't bad, but it definitely isn't perfect. Its been repainted on the driver's side due to a wreck. I only saw one wreck from back in '99 on a vin report, but the paint seems recent and not done all too smoothly (so maybe a more recent wreck not coming up on carfax?). Its not terrible, but its not great. Furthermore, the radio antenna doesn't work, the sunroof doesnt work, nothing comes out of the vents at all even though I hear some activity from the blower, golf ball sized dent on the right rear corner of the roof, and it pulls a little to the right. However, everything on the car is completely stock down to the radio, interior is in pretty good shape, and it drives fairly well (except for the alignment which isn't horrendous, but it bugs me).

Any thoughts on this? I know its cheap, but I'm just not sure if its too good to be true. Also, I wondering how much crap I'm going to have to go through to get the fan going again. AC isnt a big deal to me, but I at least want a working vent/heat for those Ohio winters. Finally, is there any danger of the alignment being irreparable due to the body being bent in a wreck? I know that alignments for most cars are cheap, but a previously wrecked car could be a problem, right?

this one looked pretty good, and is pretty cheap,. I'd buy it and resell it if I had any cash left,.

http://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/cto/4594907601.html

Yeah, I thought about that one, but wasnt quick enough about it with moving to Cleveland and all. However, I found this one, but it seems a little sketch. http://cleveland.craigslist.org/ctd/4595446097.html Was repainted on the drivers side from a wreck at some point, sunroof doesn't work, and neither does the air (nothing out the vents what soever). It also pulls a little to the right, but not sure if it needs an alignment or if its screwed from the wreck. But the price is pretty good for a '97 with 160k on it. Thoughts, anyone?

Just like the title reads, I want a relatively clean GT hatch with a 5 speed. I'm looking for a relatively unmolested car for my daily driver. I used to have an Alpine Silver 94, and I'd love to find another silver one, but don't let that discourage you from talking to me if you have something else. Also, I live in Northern Ohio, so the closer to me you are, the better. PM me if you have what I'm looking for. Thanks!

FS:

One (1) 3sgte block. Just the block, no other goodies/crank/pistons/etc. $100 pickup only (unless you're willing to shell out for a ridiculous freight charge)

One (1) 3sgte head. Head with cams and valves, no valve cover. $100 same as above, pickup only unless you REALLY want to ship it. YOU pay shipping.

I also have other miscellaneous parts but I have yet to catalog them.

PICS TO COME SOON! Hopefully by this evening. (posted 10.25.11 3:23pm est)

I'm located in 45840, usa.

Hey everyone! I'm in need of a DD that isnt a chevy malibu, and I loved my silver st204 I had a few years back. Looking for a fairly clean st204 or st184 for a DD that will eventually turn into a swap project. I'm skeptical of a already swapped car, but still open to the idea. I had a sw21 that was a halfast project from someone else that turned into a money pit, so if you have a swap to get rid of, I'm only looking for something that wasnt abused/improperly done.

I can buy straight up, but I also have a 91 Audi 200qt (not running, electrical issue) if anybody wants to consider a trade.

Pics to come soon....
I hope this is not in violation of the board rules....I just really want a 6th gen again and must get rid of the mr2. I would rather see it go to other Toyota fans then sell it to some random person. This car could be used to part out for items need for a 3sgte swap for a 6th gen.....so it relates smile.gif

I currently own a 91 MR2 sw21 w/ 3sgte and would like to trade for a 6g GT (preferably hatch).

The Good Stuff:
Recent motor rebuild (new rings, clevite bearings, 3 angle valve job, toyota gasket kit, head and block decked, bores honed, etc, etc).
Many new toyota factory parts.
Twosrus rear swaybar endlinks
Eibach springs
Recent paint
Clean body (except for a small patch of undercoarting rust)
E153 LSD trans
3inch downpipe
Apexi GT Spec 3inch stainless exhaust
Walbro 255 FP (not installed, comes with toyota install kit)
5zigen fn01rc 17 inch wheels (needs new tires. 235/45?/17 on rear and 215/45?/17 on front)

The Not-so-Good stuff
Does NOT run (well) Problems with fuel pump require a new one (the Walbro)
ct-26 blows oil (grrrr! second used turbo that did that)
brakes need work
some new struts would be a good idea
needs a sound system
blue interior (i just plain dont like the blue. no tears in seats or anything. its just not me.)
speedo does not work.

Also up for trade or sale are all of my 3sgte parts. I have a block (crank needs work or replacment) and head (looks fine, probably just needs milled), intake manifold, and a whole box of other misc stuff. Pics to come soon. These things can be included with the car or sold/traded separately for cash or something of interest to me.

PICS to come SOON

Will only consider a trade for a 6th gen as a acceptable offer (or cash to buy one).

Valo: When we gonna kick it sometime?

I dunno how it is in Ohio, but in IL "Kick It" means hooking up and making out tongue.gif lol.... *turns around laughing*

Well, here where I live, I get enough female contact that I dont have to have my mind in the gutter all the time........ biggrin.gif jk jk

Valo:
Anyways, once the ct26 comes in and the afm, two should be good. I still gotta find a decent exhaust (prolly just gonna get one of those xs power cheepie setups. mr2oc'ers tend to like em for thr price). I have this huge ricey apexi n1, but its a bit used and I dont really the looks. It screams "look at me! I think I still drive a civic!" (No offence to anyone who has one of these. Just too many civics in findlay with these.) Anyways, if your bud wants to buy one, I'm still wanting to get a alltrac, so mine is up for grabs for the right price.

Right now, I am working out a local sale with someone for 3k cash. She'll only be able to get 2500 tonight (hopefully.). I'm only working with payments for her because I know her. (edit: It turns out she's a lying, broke, sack of crap that made me clean out my stuff for nothing frown.gif Anyone who wants this car has to pay me first before I clean out my stuff.)

Valo: When we gonna kick it sometime? I'm thinking bout goin to windsor one of these days. Gotta get Senior Dose a new turbo first. biggrin.gif
