You probably could use a thermostat. The temp is showing normal then all of a sudden it goes into the red so then I take cap off top up and drive it 100 yards and it over heats again but could be thermostat or water pump? ![]() |

I used to use Mobil 1 synthetic and it was a huge difference in smoothness over "dinosaur oil". Now I put in Castrol Syntec just because its cheaper, and the bottle is a little easier to pour. ![]() Really any synthetic is great, but if you can afford it get Royal Purple. Its supposedly lightyears beyond anything that petroleum companies selling synthetics are making....much more durable and protective. I am an engineer who designs lubrication systems for a living everyday and I will say this: Royal Purple is the only oil we do not reccommend and will void our warranty. The seals used in our systems are automotive engine seals and the royal purple attacks them - especially on older seals that are used to regular dino-oil. My educated .02 - stay away from Royal Purple - the benifits are not worth the risk. BTW - my 4th gen swap loved M1 15w50 for the turbo engine. just don't use it on newer engines - stay with 10w30 or 10w40 would be even better. Turbos need thicker oil as they cause the oil to break down faster. or just more frequent oil changes which costs more. lucky you told me that I shall give that a miss! and stick with somthing else! thanks ![]() |

QUOTE(94wrc @ Apr 5, 2006 - 4:27 PM) When you say you have had the headgasket checked, do you mean a compression check? water and white scum inside filler cap is normally a sure sign of the dreaded BHG (Blown Head Gasket) how does it drive? does the temp rise when you boost then drop when you cruise along off boost? if the answer is yes then it is a BHG I'm afraid. Blue smoke = Oil 99% of the time, is it using a lot of oil? Nathan The car drives fine no flat spots or missing ive had a mechanic do a test but not a pressure test he used a liquid that changes colour when head gaskets blown. the temp is fine runs normal when on full boost and stays the same when cruising it also uses very little oil. Thanks for the advice ![]() |

QUOTE(presure2 @ Apr 5, 2006 - 4:03 PM) if its just TRACES of it, its normal, just condensation. are you sure the smoke is blue when you rev hard? if so, could be a number of things...tired turbo, rings ect... Hopfully it is just condensation but might be the turbo because when I bought it in january I found a pipe broke leading to the turbo so it was giving boost all the time. Thanks for that mate! ![]() |

QUOTE(liquor @ Mar 11, 2006 - 10:36 PM) I put 20$ of premium gas (93 octane) as usual and had my car washed at Shell. I drive for 15 mins... stop the car for about 45 min and after when i start it again the engine is rattling like crazy and theres white smoke coming out of the muffler. The idle is very low (below 500), the engine shakes alot, smells gas alot. No apparent leaks. Fortunately, I was able to drive the car to the mechanic shop 2 corners away but ill have to wait till monday to know whats the problem. I think the water jets under the car at the car wash might have shot some water in my gas tank cuz there is some rust spots around. What do you think? I think your head gasket has gone, I have had the same problem (white smoke) does your radiator water throth up? is there white scum on oil filler cap? today I have used something called SEAL UP made by CARGO you add it to your radiator it is liquid glass my gt4 no longer fills the road with smoke! after 20 mins running the engine, if I was you I would invest in SEAL UP this should work, the seal is perminant ![]() |

I have an 1990 celica gt4 st185 and im not sure if the turbos gone I have a lot of white and blue smoke coming out of exhaust I have had the head gasket checked thats fine I have a pipercross induction kit fitted I have taken it off and found there is a little oil inside which is from the turbo, the boost seems fine but the power dies out when I accelerate hard, but seems fine with short burst acceleration e.g overtaking. Can anyone help???? I think my turbos fine I had head gasket problems but fixed it with CARGO SEAL UP LIQUID GLASS if anyone has the same problem this is the stuff to use my car no longer fills road up with smoke!! and runs like a dream! |
