i read some post about taking the drums off but they do not really tell which direction to turn the tooth gear in. do you turn the tooth gear up or down? i think i messed up. i turned the tooth gear up and now the drums are really tight and i can't turn it down to loosen it.

so yesterday i flush the power steering fluid and put in new fluid and the car is still like that. So when ever I start up the car whether the car be sitting for an hour or 2 or if i just shut off the engine and start it again the steering wheel is resisting and then gets loose and resist again. But the thing is when I drive it for a min or 2 it feels like the power steering is coming back to normal. i was wondering do u think it could be Im getting air in the system somewhere?

Or from what i heard it might be my rack and pinion cuz my car got hit on the front driver side wheel 2 times already.

I also noticed that when i had the front wheels in the air steering was perfectly normal but when i put it back on the ground it would happen again the tightness and the looseness.

i really havent confirmed anything tho. as soon as i get my car insured and have a job ill take it to a mechanic to check out. my other friend said that it might be the PS fluid and that i need to flush it. i could be the belt and so far some think it might be the steering knuckles bad. so many possibilities, just not enough money biggrin.gif

yea its jerky and then loose just like you described. i was looking for the intermediate shaft so i sprayed the whole shaft and the knuckle with PB blaster. i hope it gets better too. how dangerous would it be to drive on that bad knuckle? im guessing pretty dangerous i could be turning and it snaps then i would end up in some wall.

so i went out to the car again and started her up. it seems to be getting worse. i found out that it does squeal when i turn it all the way. so does that mean power steering is going bad?

nope the belt doesnt squeal when that happens but yea i was thinking the power steering as well. i checked the fluids and everything seems fine.

i wouldn't mind building up some upper body strength. my dad might want to borrow the celica and i dont think he'll have the strength to deal with the steering lmao

so my power steering might be bad? hmm

My steering wheel does not want to turn. When I turn the steering wheel i feel it resisting and a few moments later it turns where i want it too. It feels like the car has no power steering for a moment and feels like i get it back and then it goes out again. Thats what it feels like when i turn. What could it be? is the power steering broken?

ah so thats why its so black in there. I always wondered wat the purpose of the pcv. i changed it last year just for the sake of changing it.

wat about my second question? say if i leave that spring like that will i be damaging anything? it made my celica feel torquey xD

edit: if the oil and junk goes back into the intake wont i be getting oil into the cylinders or no? or does it get sucked out somewhere in the intake manifold?

I have two questions today. I took my throttle body off and cleaned it. When i took it off i was a bit surprised by what i saw. I saw that the intake manifold was black on the inside with what would appear to be dirt and grime or something that looked like that. my question is the 7afe suppose to be like that or not? when i looked at the throttle body one side was dirty and the other side was how i expected to find it.

My other question that when cleaning the throttle body, the spring that makes the throttle plate reclose I took it off. When i started driving the car like that cuz i forgot to but it back on, I noticed that the car accelerated faster than it normally does. I think it is cuz when i moved that spring position lower it puts less tension on the spring so it can open and close faster. But I wanted to know if I drive it like that will i damage anything?

i messed up my steering pretty badly i think. it normally takes 2 full turns to the left or right but after my accident. turning left i need an extra turn to turn the way i normally make a turn. turning right is normal because i did not get hit on that side. i damaged only the driver side. i have no idea what is wrong besides that something is broken. any ideas what it could be? any info would help, thanks guys

from my inspection i would say the radiator is leaking. im seeing a lil puddle on the ground but did not really make sure it was radiator fluid. i'd say the puddle is like 3in in diameter.

the car has 191,000 miles on it. my dad told me the tranny was rebuilt just before we bought it. that was about 2 years ago and 25k miles ago. the a new clutch was put in when they rebuilt it. here are some pics of the suspension.

the second pic is not too good i might take that one again.

i wouldnt be able to tell you whats broke but im kinda just guessing. the wheel is at an angle so maybe its the strut or its the control arm. could as well be just the tie rods as well. other parts might also be damaged but my untrained eyes can't tell the difference

to tell you truth i have no idea what is really wrong with it. when you turn its not as tight as it was before. when you turn right it feels normal by that i mean tight. when you turn left the steering is feels loose and takes many turns of the wheel to get it to turn the way you want it too. also either the control arm is bent or the strut. i just had a $300 brake job done to the car too frown.gif (new calipher, rotors, disc replacements). right now shes just sitting in the back yard. i miss driving her.

its that i put alot of money into repairs. bought the celica off my dads boss for $2500 and spent over$3000 on repairs. the car is mechanically fine but people dont know how to drive and hit me. love to keep her but hey im a broke college student wat can i do?

hope the first part answers your question
