Hey guys i was wondering there is 2 types of 3sgte motors 1 withe the intercooler mounted on top and another with a charge cooler if i'm right. what's the diff between the 2 wich 1 is better and which 1 is newer, do they make the same power. what fluid do you put in the charge cooler cause i see its got a radiator cap. i'm thinking of buying me a 3sgte motor for my st and and dont know which 1 to pick.

how about distributor? The last research that i've done whn im trying to convert to 16V GE head, they mentioned there is no way i can control the distributor unless im using standalone ecu. pls correct me if im wrong

i did the same conversion. i used the 7afe rods with 7afe pistons the belt i used was a renault espase mpv belt it's got 117 teeth if i remember correct.the tensioner i had made bigger by 5mm but i heard you can use the mazda 2.0 16v gold tappetcover tensioner. the housing on the back of the head will not allighn over the water pump cause of the taller block. and i used a stand alone ecu.

the 86kw is probably at the crank, so 76 to the wheels isnt too bad. thats about 100whp and 108 lb/ft.

thats actually pretty good for a stock 7afe! advance your timing a few degrees to see if that'll bring your torque curve to peak a little lower again, or you can build up and raise compression some for more power across the powerband, however i dont think the price of the work would equal the gains. the timing advance is free, just run a higher octane fuel.

i,m running the highest octane fuel available, which is a 95 lead replacement petrol. or can i run a racing fuel of 102.9 can it maby be that my exhaust is to big i'm using a 57milimeter freeflow exhaust.

hi all, i got a qiuck question, i got a stock 7afe with 4 into 1 headers and a performance filter and 17inch wheels, on sat we had a dyno day and my car made 76 kw at the wheels and 147 nm torque, it makes max torque at about 4000rpm and at max kw just after 4500rpm. there after it doesnt do much in the way of speed, i struggle to reach 195km/h my my friend with a stock 4age motor passes me like i'm standing still, the motor is newly rebuilt, question is why am i being creamed. the car pulls strong up untlill 3rd gear but when i put it in 4th i'ts all show and no go. is the dyno figures about right or not the workshop manual says it does 86kw dont know where the measure it though.

ok, i have a 7afe motor and i cant decided between the T25 or T3 turbo??? some people say the T25 is perfect for the ST others say it will spool to fast and wont last threw the RPM range, some say the T3 is good, other say it spools way to slow for the ST,, im only wanting to run 2-10psi.. please give me all the advice and info you can,, and you 7afte guys, what turbos did you go with and what are your results??

hey i had a 7afte i was using a garrett gt 17 turbo, with no problems and no lag on standard compression. wink.gif

hey guys my conversion is almost complete, just need to fabricate a bracket for my alternator.
this is the setup:
i'm using 7afe rods and pistons, which i had ceramic coated, the reason is the 7afe piston is a low compr piston and the 20v has a high comp (ading a garrett gt17 once the motor is run in)
using 20v head gasket slighyly modified and a reanault cambelt with 116 teeth. my tensioner is modified. the motor turns freely by hand. dont know how toplace pix here otherwise i'd have shown you guys. and i'm running a locally made aftermarket stand alone management.
keep your fingers crossed that the conversion is gonna be a sucsess

first off did your car run hot?
there can be a couple of reasons, either your head or block is warped
your headbolts can be stretched,
i always use a copper gasket sealer to seal my gaskets. wink.gif

If this gets move to the FI side, it'll get more attention. Congrats on your work so far, you've got to let us all know how this thing turns out.

my motor is complete, i ceramic coted the 7afe pistons and am using a renault espase timing belt, the tensioner had to be made bigger. i'm gonna run the 20v throttle bodies and add a garret gt 17 turbo. only have 1 problem my altenator. will hopefully install the engine over the week end smile.gif
