Hello all! It's been a while.
I registered long ago and have used this excellent forum as a resource for a long time but now find myself quickly in need of a key/adapter for the OEM wheel locks on a 1999 GT (automatic though I doubt it matters). The wheels are the stock alloys.
I had it normally live in the glove box but sometime between my last wheel rotation and now it's gone missing and I urgently need a replacement as my oldest tire is getting pretty smooth.
If anyone has one they're looking to get rid of or has a link to somewhere to get it cheap (<$20 shipped) please let me know. If not, just a link to the best price the internet can find would be appreciated.
I'm in Sacramento, CA and have no problem paying via PayPal or whatever other method someone might choose.

While I'm at it I'm also in (non-urgent) need of:
Windshield washer nozzles. When I got the car they were kinda clogged and I've tried to needle them clean to no avail. Tired of only having one of four streams actually make it to the windshield. Tubing is fine, just little black heads need replaced.
Front drive-side fender. The wife crunched this on the car port a while back. Just wondering if there is a black one with or without white pinstripe (with is preferred) that I might be able to get a hold of on the cheap. Would need the yellow plastic turning signal cover with it too.

Are you in Roseville, CA?
I'd say $5000 tops and that's if it's manual, actually in excellent condition, and has pretty much all options.
Then again, I'm a bit picky, my wife and I looked for about a year and a half before we got ours.

I agree that this a terrific forum! I've been in many other car forums not nearly half as useful or positive... the only other one I can think of that I (used to) frequent is del Sol Society, from when my wife and I were between getting a Honda del Sol or the Celica.

Does it tend to stay on longer if it's been cold for a longer amount of time?
I've fixed a few Dells (and only Dells) that have had the heatsink plate unlatch from their CPU cause quick overheat/shutdowns.
If it's not overheating I don't really know, and I can't account for why it would work better with the optical drive open.

Another sad point of interest is that there isn't a shortage of Nintendo Wiis in Sacramento either...

P.S.: All the morning shows in Sacto are lame with the SINGLE exception being Rob Arnie and Dawn in the Morning on 98.5.

I see convertible 6GCs in the Sacramento area pretty regularly and it rains a good deal here in the winter.




If Toyota was to put an old name on a new car to be competitive with the S2000 and 350Z I think it'd more likely be "Supra" than "Celica"... but you can dream...

Is it a musty/moldy smell?
Probably crap growing in your evaporator box... There are products you can spray in you intake to kill mold and mildew in your AC, the only one that comes to mind is "Pure Air" made by the same people that make the "Arctic Freeze" DIY AC Recharger kits.

I hate hearing this phrase on forums. Does it really matter if it's a good idea to anyone but you?

I find we get 315-335 per tank with mostly city driving and 365-385 if mostly highway.
The car has close to 80,000 on it and has never had a tune up (getting everything together for one right now).

I'm looking for some pieces to fill in a few blemishes on the 99 GT hatchback.
- Windshield washer nozzles (front): the driver side one doesn't spray at all and the passenger side fires hard to the right.
- Ashtray cover (center console): it just wasn't there when we bought it.
- Hatch cover: dealer wants a mint for it and I don't expect a used one to come cheap either but I'd like to get one since ours was absent when we bought it.
- Back seat knob (???): don't know the proper name for it but the last little thing that was just missing when we bought the car is one of the knobs that you pull to lay the back seats down... looks like it just screws into the threads of the bolt that's there.
I'm in Sacramento California (ZIP 95610).

Here's a spark plug question:
The 1999 Toyota Repair Manual says to replace with either
DENSO made PK20TR11 or NGK made BKR6EKPB11 - both platinum multi-ground
Haynes and sparkplugs.com say
NGK BKR6EP11 - a double platinum
Obviously I'm inclined to go with the Toyota Repair Manuals recommendation but was wondering which should be used and what kind of a difference it would really make.
P.S.: I've also heard of some people using plugs one heat range colder in California because the gas is "crappy and oxygenated". Any thoughts on this?

Switching to 10W-30 for good on my next change was something else I was considering especially since the missus and I intend to move back down to the San Diego area (her home town) sooner or later.

Even though it's my wife's car I find that I like it a lot more than I thought I would. Under the right circumstances I would even trade out my Honda for another 6th gen Celica silly as that might sound.
I'll take it on a short photo shoot soon but the rainy season has just started here in Sacramento so we'll see what happens.
That's too bad to hear about a couple other 99's getting banged up. I have a theory that pretty as the 6th gen is, it's a lightning rod of pain. Ours had the passenger window broken after just a month and about every other 6th gen I see in Sacramento has some kind of body damage.
The late 90's Celica is a car my wife had wanted for a while so we hunted for about half a year before getting this one. Ours has a body flaw I saw in a few others... the front bumper / nose piece seems to be pulling away from the front fender on the passenger side. I've started to assume this isn't uncommon. Is there an easy way to correct this?

I changed the oil 2500 miles after we purchased the Celica since I couldn't get a straight answer from the dealer on when the last change was.
The oil cap on my 5S-FE said 5W-30 and since the cold season was starting I stuck to it with Mobil Clean 5000 5W-30 and a Mobil 1 Oil Filter.
I too found the drain plug way tight and joked to my buddy (who's garage I was using for the change) that Jesus must've been the last person to change the oil since turing with all my strength and yelling "Jesus Christ!" was the only way I got it off.
I don't know if you've got an AutoZone near you but the washer for the drain plug was only $0.49 - their part #129573 / model 366173.
I also tightened the oil filter by hand and dabbed a bit of the new oil on its gasket.
My intrest piques when talking about oil weights though because I've been intending to move up to 10W-30 in the summer and back to 5W-30 in the winter (I plan 5000 mi / 6 month oil change intervals). Would this be a bad move?
