Hey all, I just bought a '97 Celica ST SE. I was really excited to find out that 8"s fit in the door easily, but my passenger side is missing the speaker bracket for the 8". The speaker must have blown and they replaced it with a 6.5" and just screwed it into the panel. I need that bracket or if anyone knows an easy way to fab an equivalent, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks and this is a great website, Matt PM sent |

I was like WTF, I was worrying for a whole week what the problem was, and here it took you 2 seconds to find the problem, lol. It turns out to the the timing, the timing belt is still intact, but it jumped a couple teeth. If it jumped once it will do it again. replace the belt and check the timing gears also. If they are worn replace them. |

QUOTE(5150EVH @ Mar 30, 2008 - 5:05 AM) I recently noticed that when I come to a stop, I hear a gurgling sound coming from behind my firewall. I only hear this sound hear and there. I noticed too that when I turn my heat on the sound goes away....however, I smell a whiff of antifreeze when I first turn on the heat. I have been in the automotive business for 4 years (manager at Autozone and with CarQuest) and know that usually when there is overheating or this type of symptom and you turn your heater on and the problem goes away...its usually the thermostat. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem or if anyone could please give me some advice. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you. e same or If you work at autozone you should have access to a coolant pressure guage. I replaces the radiator cap. Install it and run car till it warms up. then shut it off and see if the pressure stays the same or if it starts to drop. If it drops you have a leak. |

That was my first though because I've been around a couple of cars with a bad alty and my car was running exactly like that. I got my alternator tested and they said it was still good though. ![]() Have your battery checked also. |

QUOTE(Badkarma @ Mar 27, 2008 - 2:39 AM) well, i bought the celica with hopes of getting Much better gas mileage than my other car. 1999 mustang 3.8 v6 5 spd. so i filled it up last week, set the trip, and today the trip meter hit 280 miles and i was due for a fill up. well, it took 14.4 gallons. it comes out to about 19.5 miles per gallon. my mustang gets 21 average! i've gotten up to 30!. this really was quite a let down. i still love the celica but is everyone getting such horrible mpg? maintainance is kept up. runs great. plugs, wires, filters. only thing i can think of is it needs of an alignment. what else could be the problem? thanks, sorry for knocking the celi's. Erich 25-28 city 30-34 hwy 94gt 5spd 5sfe I drive it like I stole it. |

QUOTE(Rusty @ Mar 25, 2008 - 5:54 AM) I've used octane boosters, didn't feel a difference. though I was using 91 back then, now I use 95, so maybe? I'm gonna throw something old school a ya. Marvel Mystery Oil. 2 ounces per 10 gallons of fuel. Been using it in my bikes for 30 years. Increase in HP, fuel mileage and the engine runs smoother. I tried it in my celi and got 2 mpg better mileage. As for SEAFOAM.. incredible stuff. I had a boat that got swamped. water in engine oil, etc. Poured a quart of seafoam in the oil reservoir. ran it 5 minutes, drained oil, changed filter, refilled oil. all the water was gone! freakin boat ran better than new! |

QUOTE(CelicaST_CALI @ Mar 21, 2008 - 6:19 PM) anybody wanna just give me a how to on this??wat socket are the bolts 1. Buy yourself a good set of metric wrenches and sockets. Don't buy crap tools, buy craftsman or snap-on or any good name brand that gives you a lifetime warranty. These tools will last you a lifetime if you keep em clean and don't lose them. Get a tool box to keep em in. That is the best advise you will ever get about tools. 2. remove the oilpan after draining all the oil out. There is a drain plug at bottom of oil pan. (dont lose it) 3. clean the mating surfaces where the pan attaches to the motor. clean them very well so there is nice shiny clean surface wth no oil or grease. 4. Use the FIPG (or the black permatex). nice even bead around the pan. gently replace the pan on the motor. 5. replace the bolts that you took out to get the pan off. Replace the drain plug. 6. Remove the oil filter. Replace with a new one. 7. Pour in new oil. 8. Start the engine and check to see if there are any leaks. If not shut off engine and check the oil level. If all is well......God Job! |
