My point is... Usually 3S-GE starts redline at 6krpms right? or is it usually 7krpms? and its that one of my friends got luckly a 3S-GE because everywhere around I see redline starting at 6krpms. what engine is that in that case? 3S-FE?

That's what I'm saying. His 3S-GE got a 7k rpms redline tach like a celica's BEAMS version but it's not BEAMS I mean it doesn't have VVT-i (BEAMS = VVTi right?) and when we raced against the Trueno 4A-GZE I felt the car kinda "heavy" at high rpms (6.8-7.2krpms)(I was with him). Here is where enters the part when I said he should shift earlier. I mean maybe he got the rev limiter at 7.2 krpms like a BEAMS version maybe? but its not so it has to shift like a normal 3S-GE (aprox 6-6.2krpms).

It's not a beams 3SGE that's for sure I killed him in a '92 Eclipse GST. Maybe just one got a Beams Tachometer/Gauges?.

QUOTE(Kwanza26 @ Jan 24, 2007 - 4:25 AM)

There were many versions of the 6gc and many of them did not have the 3SGE. As far as I know, all of the 3SGE/3SGTE celicas show a redline at about 7k rpms... but in the non 3SG models, the redline is either 6200 or 5800...

Well one of them said he had the 3SGE engine but I didn't checked it but the other one with the 7krpms redline I saw the engine bay and it said on the right side "3 S G E". By the way both cars are of course JDM these because Curren didnt made it to USA (only right side steering wheel) but the rear it's very similar to the "ST?" (Spyder). I'll try to get pics of botch tachometers!!!.

One more thing. I think the fact that these 3GSE has redline at 7k rpms and rev limiter at 7.2k rpms its not an advantage at all (at least he learns how to drive it I think) because the car doesn't have the same strenght at high rpms (6-7.2k rpms). I think I saw somewhere around here that it was better to shift 1st at 7k, 2nd 6.5k and 3rd at 6.3k rpms for example.

Thanks.

P.S. Anyone has some more info plz????

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and personally I don't own a Toyota. But several of my friends do so here is where my doubts began. Well I have 2 friends each one with a Toyota Curren (identical) 94/96 (same as Celica) with 5 speed manual and 3S-GE engine. I think that engine in the 6th gen has about 170bhp. My question is: why one of them has a 6000 redline and 6200 rev limiter (it starts to turn red at 6krpms) and the other one has the same tach but at 7000 redline and 7200 rev limiter. The one with 6krpms has till 8rpms in the tach and the other has till 9rpms. I was surprised particulary with the one with 7.2krpms rev limiter because in all of the celicas I saw on the internet them usually had 6200rpms and 5800rpms on MT and AT repectivaly I think...

So before watchin the 7.2krpms rev limiter (and watchin the internet pictures of celicas) I bet my friend that he was lying to me!!! (it was for a Bacardi!!! hehe) so when I saw it i couldn't believe it (and of course it's not turbo). Anyone knows why is this??? I couldn't find any logical answer yet! hope u guys help me...

One more thing. The guy with the 7.2 race to a '91 4A-GZE from a stop and lost!!! (Trueno pull him about 2 cars eventhough he started later!) and I saw specs of both and them both had about the same bhp and weight...

All of these cars are bone stock btw.

Thanks!!!
