The easiest way to do this would be to get a multimeter and use it to see if there is a significant load on the battery. There will always be minimal load though, for things like the clock and stereo memory.

Make sure the car is turned off and check for a load.
If there is a significant load, start pulling fuses 1 at a time. After you pull each fuse, check to see if the load is gone. once you find the culprit, the load should nearly dissappear.
This will at least narrow the drain down to a specific accessory and make finding the short a lot easier.

Hope this helps

This is pretty much the same principal that those cheap "chips" work on. They try to trick your engine into thinkiong that the air is a lot colder than it really is which should increase response time and increase the shift points. All they really do is make you waste gas.... but yea... my AT does the same thing...

yo manny, long time no shee =P. how time flies.

i have to disagree with the notion of multichannel music trying to replicate stereo.

adding the surrounds enables the acoustics to fill out much better than than simply stereo. no matter how hard you try, the pair of stereo speakers aren't able to project sound that is coming from the back of you. i have a few mixtures of both stereo and 5.1 hybrid SACD recordings and my fav. are well recorded and mixed 5.1. a perfect example is pink floyd's dark side of the moon. hearing that in 5.1 means no going back to simply stereo. there's simply no going back... unfortunately, people have abandoned high-res. sound for puny sounding .mp3 because of convenience.

re: recorded. yesh, multichannel music is typically mixed (like pink floyd), although Star Trek Nemesis 5.1 track was actually recorded in multichannel with mixing to adjust levels.

@home, i have a 7.1 setup that can tackle sacd, dvda, home theater stuff (HD), unfortunately... my room acoustics sux. your room can determine how well things can sound.

furthermore, more $ doesn't mean it is automatically going to sound awesome. there's a certain threshhold of $ vs. performance where once you cross it, it's gonna become more about bling than sound quality. most people's ears are going to fail to detect that difference anyways.

that's why i have a desire to move that type of a setup to car. the car has the perfect audio environment (inside the car, i know there's a craptastic amount of noise pollution outside of the car) given the correct variables.

Hey man... hows it goin....
I actually felt the same way, until i was at a friends place and went into his listening room. He played some Jazz on an SACD with his "true stereo" setup. My initial opinion was.. How the hell are you gonna get superior sound from 2 towers and a sub??? He just said.. listen....
I'll tell you... it blew my mind... with my eyes closed it felt like I was at a jazz concert on a sound stage.
A lot of it has to do with:
the speaker placement
the room acoustics
the actual components.

He has enough money to actually set something like that up... but for my broke ass.... I wouldnt even attempt.
As for my home setup... I am happy with my old school 5.1 system I got 8 years ago....

In a car, you're right... well.. I have a vert.. so I have **** ammount of noise from outside coming in... but... I agree with moving a multichannel setup into a car simply because... there is no real economical way to install a true stereo setup in a vehicle. You would pretty much have to make it impossible to drive.

I have an older pioneer deh9400mp... Its still an awesome deck and I have not been able to find anything that sounds as good for under $500, so Im gonna stick with it until it breaks.. and my celi is the 4th vehicle I have moved it to.

Rather than setup a multichannel though, I played with the speaker timing and used some tuning cd's to get mine setup the way I like it... Some people dont like.. some people do... I only really care about how it sounds to me.... and the fact that i spend maybe 20 mins a day in the car makes it not a real high priority for me to invest any more time or money into it.

as far as disagreeing... I understand.... I sound full of ****... but I had to hear it to believe it myself....

I have the 8 speaker setup and I removed the stock amp and I still run all 8 speakers off the stock deck no problem. Just wire them in series and you won't blow anything up, they just get less power.

Less power, and you are just splitting 2 channels between 6.... Nothing will blow and you are right.... there won't be any problems.. it just sounds like complete crap.... Well.. compared to a full 8 channel setup....

you can pull it out. its of no use to an aftermarket stereo

Actually.. If you have 6 or 8 speaker setup... and you dont have an aftermarket amp... You might want to use the stock amp. If you dont.. all you will be doing is splitting your speaker signal between the bunch... IMO makes crappy sound quality.....

I have the 8 speaker setup and wired my Pioneer DEH9400MP to the stock amp and am using all 8 speakers... before i just wired it to the regular speaker harness and it didnt sound as good...

just my 2 cents...

5.1, 7.1 and everything else is merely trying to replicate the sound of "True Stereo"

This is accomplished with only 2 well placed speakers and a sub. SACD and DVDA both sound amazing with this setup.

A friend of mine is a serious audiophile and has a small listening room in his house.... It takes a good ammount of money and some serious dedication to set it all up, but its worth it. I was skeptical until he played some Jazz in SACD for me... i tell you.. it sounded like i was sitting on the stage with the musicians.
Just to give you an idea of the price for something like this.. He went a lower end route and still spent over $700 just for speaker wire.

Most audio you find will not be recorded in any of the simulated stereo formats (5.1, 7.1 etc..)

Kind of rambling now... but i think I had a point to make somewhere in here.. :-)

Use a multimeter on the power, acc and ground wires to see if they are hot, (or if the ground is actually grounding)
If not, then you can do 2 things:
1. Trace the wiring all the way and look for a short or any other problem.
2. Run new power wires and ground the ground wire to any metal under the dash that is connected to the frame. (The easiest IMO)

The power wire can lead off any 12v power wires that are activated by turning on the ignition. The acc power wires, which keep memory of things like your clock and last song info, require a constant 12v connection, so you would have to make sure whatever you lead off of is always hot.

Hope this help... I sometimes ramble and assume that I make sense.....

You can make it look real good with some specialized spray paint made for plastic. Krylon makes paint called Fusion and its about 6 bucks a can.

Take out your pieces, clean them real well with some alcohol and when they are dry apply a few thin coats.

With the krylon Fusion paint, there is no need to sand and its pretty chip resistant. You can do a clear coat if you want, but its not needed.

I did my interior pieces this way and they look like they were factory painted.

Yea... its definitely not a cv boot or joint.... I checked them out when I changed the pads.... The rotors seemed fine so I didnt get them re surfaced.... The pads came with shims... and I replaced all 4.....

I didnt check the dust shields though.... I have this friday off.. I am going to go through everything again.... the noise that is really concerning me is the sound of rubbing.... especially when i make a right turn.... not hard core grinding.. but enough to hear it..... its strange, cuz it all sounds like my pads are wearing down.. but they are all brand new....

Thanks for all the info guys... I really appreciate the help...

Hey whats up everybody.....
About a couple weeks ago my brakes started squealing... I figured it was the wear sensor tellin me a change was due soon, then I started hearing some rubbing that sounded like the calipers were runnin a little close to the rotors so I changed the pads out....

After I got the old pads off... they werent badly worn... looked a bit glazed though.. so I put in new ones....

Well... My car is still squealing/squeaking when I brake and I hear the rubbing/grinding noise when I drive....
The noise is especially loud when I turn right.....

I have changed brakes quite a bit over the years, and it has always been a simple task for me... but this is new....
My rotors are fine, so I dont think anythig is rubing on them badly... but this noise is really concerning me....

could anyone tell me what else besides worn pads and possible wheel alignment problems would cause this noise??

I'd appreciate any responses.....

If you are talking about the AUX pwr blue wires.... there is a double connector for a reason. 1 is to power your amp and the other side is to power your antenna.
I have a Pioneer myself....

The brain is the main module that controls the alarm functions.... All the wires will lead to the "brain". When you disconnected you battery, you just reset it... but.. this tells me that you probably have ignition kill and removing the brain may disable the engine.... I have minimal experience installing alarms, and have only done a few for myself....

IMO you are better off taking the thing to an installer when you are ready for a new alarm, and live with the unlocking and locking for the time being....

Stock ones are 6.25" but the are in a metal spacers which houses itself in a big (8" plastic bracket)

So in order to make a standard size 6.5" (16.5 cm) fit you would have to make a spacer out of plastic or preferred (as I did) MDF.

There was a How To about is but it seems to be removed.

Thanks for the tip! So what you're saying is once the stock speakers are taken out, I'll be left with an 8" aperture? Why can't car manufacturers ever do things straight forward!!!

rolleyes.gif

IPB Image

The 8" opening is for those of us who have the premium sound system with the 8" speakers in the doors.
Wouldnt make sense for the manufacturer to make sepperate panels with smaller speaker openings, when a simple adapter is cheaper....

You can unplug the brain to stop the locking and unlocking... but if the Alarm had ignition kill, then your car may not start....

You have to host the music somewhere... like photobucket or similar... I host mine on my geocities file space.... Then you have to code it into your page.. You can either make it a background song, where it just plays and there is no player visible on the page (does not work with mozilla) or, you can use an embed tag, and embed a player onto your page with whatever song you want.

This is what I had to do like 3 or 4 years ago when myspace was still pretty new and there wasnt all the features that they have now.

i'll post more about this next period if i have time. i have strong feelings on this topic. if not next period than around 12ish. i'm up for a debate. and by the way not all emo are pus*y's. i know some pretty tough emo kids who have beating the **** outa jocks who gave em a hard time.

I have no desire to debate this issue....
I was stating my personal opinion, and that isnt gonna change.
I do apologize if I offended you or anyone else.... I should have not made such a general statement....

The point I should have tried to make is.... Those out there who lable themselves... are the ones I am talking about.... You know what im talking about... the ones who go overboard at Hot Topic and try to embrace everything there is to embrace about a trend.

Back in my day.. it was the wannabe goths.... then the wannabe rockabillies.. punks.. emo... etc....
The ones who will give a snobby attitude if you dont look like them.... the ones who ironically call you a conformist if you dont dress like they all do....

They're not punk rock. They're just gay. Punk rock died in the eighties - everything that has come since [including and especially Green Day] is a cheap imitation.

I'd have to partly disagree with you on this.... Yea.. most good music is now dead, and punk rock did for the most part die off in the 80's... but there are still a few good punk bands around.... Not many.. but a few....
Street Dogs, Lars Fredrickson and the Bastards.... to name a couple

for the most part... it all got replaced by this gay **** called emo.... where the boys look like girls... I'll be damned if im gonna let some 120lb little bastard in tight jeans and a pink sweater try to man up to me.... Its fun though to see these tools try to get tough and end up getting their asses handed to them....

I have a pioneer head unit and it came with a remote. I cannot keep it in one place so i was thinkning about mounting it in someway somewhere. I am open to any ideas but i was thinking about putting it under the ash tray since i dont use it. I was going to cut a square hole in the plastic top part of the ash tray and mount the remote under the plastice with the buttons sticking through the hole. There is a couple questions i have about this, the main one being that it cant get signal to the head unit from in the ash tray so is there a way to take off the thing that sends signals from the remote and mount it somewhere where it could send a signal. I was thinking of putting this under the armrest but can i simply take the thing out of the remote and run wires from where it was at to its new loctaion? I hope all this makes sense I thought it was a good idea but i am open to any suggestions about what to do and i would love to take the stock steering wheel remote from a car equiped with them but the thing to make it work seemed alittle pricey. (if this has been done just point me to the topic)

Pioneer actually has steering wheel mounted remotes. Since its Pioneer Im sure you can get one of those and it will control your head unit.

IPB Image

I have 1 and it came with a bracket to mount to the curve of my steering wheel... looks and works pretty well

Here is a link to it on Amazon, Im sure u can find it cheaper on ebay.

Honestly.... I doubt that she even believes the BS that she is spitting out... Why else would she make it a point to go so overboard about things like swearing??

Tell her that her Jesus shirts offend you, and you would appreciate it if she respects your beliefs....

It has to go both ways....

I remember back in HS, they had christian clubs on campus and people wore their crosses and jesus shirts... but I got in trouble for wearing a cradle of filth t-shirt becasue i offended the christians.... This is all BS... the only ones offended were the ones trying to prove themselves to the REAL christians.. who really didnt give a **** what I wore.....

I think of religion like any other club.... The real believers are pretty secure in what they believe and dont have to go bother anyone else with it... The noobs have to throw it in your face, just so your aware that they belong too..... pretty pathetic....
