for all the people who own the less ballzy st version of the celica, i would like to point out its overwhelming reliability. today at 5 in the morning i arrived back at my house in nh after a straight 15 hour drive 935 miles, which i had just accomplished on the trip down there only a week ago... my car now has 190,000 miles and still burn almost no oil. i used 28 gallons of gas of 85 oct. thats about 33.3 mpg. only mod is a accord cai. as my friend put it "reliably of a honda, style of a lexus" i love my little car.

yes they'd be going on a 7afe motor, so what needs to be done to make it all work correctly?

so ive been looking around for awhile and decided that turbo'ing wouldn't be worth it and decided to investigate itbs.
i found this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-4AGE-AE...sQ5fAccessories

so my questions is aside from physically making it fit what needs to be done to run itb's

exhaust gas flow theory is very in depth and more involved than the typical conversation here, much less do i think many of us here know much about it.

there is tube length/firing order/ect ect but its negate able in this situation

this is very true, I AM NOT driving a 1000 whp 350z maybe then ill worry about it...

ok cool, but why do they make it to go over the axel? there must be some reason...

http://i14.ebayimg.com/04/i/000/cf/dd/76c5_1.JPG

the last pipe, is.... like double the length of the others... don't you want all equal lengths?

i heard something about back pressure waves, or something like that.. and idealy you want everything equal so everything cancels out and there is no resonant wave

also http://ebay-img.1aauto.com/EEM/1AEEM00272.jpg
umm is this even close to a good idea, all port nearly immediately meet?

ok so i was looking at my exhaust and saw that its high flow of 1.5 inches goes pretty much straight back then before the rear suspension it has a horrible 90 up and a few other bad ideas, basicly my question is it a law that you exhaust go over you rear suspension, its not for ground clearence because from the down pipe to the cat is actually lower than the axel back. also it wont hit any thing if the suspension flexes.

ok sorry if that was confusing, why does it need to go above rear suspension.

it might be a state thing idk, im in nh if anyone feels like reading political jargon

thanks

about seafoam, ive heard lots of stories about it. its magical properties and also how it will kill almost any car.
i can understand if its high mileage and you use an engine/fuel cleaner your probably going to gunk up your fuel filter and prob just clog you engine with tihs.

i know this happens alot with people who try to switch their car over to 100bio diesal and dont change their filters.

so what would be a good mileage to not use seafoam? past 170xxx miles?

i gotta wonder when that gunk uhh, un-gunks where does it go? just gets burned up? dont think so....

also im not trying to start a argument so dont take it that way.

Actually, a resonator is not an absorption-type muffler, it just looks like a narrow-body straight-through muffler from the outside.

A resonator, well, resonates. It's an echo chamber, bounces soundwaves off each other so as to use sound cancellation. Resonators are great at smoothing the exhaust note, and good at reducing the volume.

A straight-through muffler uses sound absorption -- it's a perforated pipe wrapped in insulation. Cheap ones such as Cherrybomb use fibreglass. Quality brands such as MagnaFlow use a ceramic insulation with stainless steel wool. Straight-through mufflers are great at volume reduction without notably affecting the exhaust flow (longer muffler = less volume), and do smooth the note somewhat.

One further point on Cherrybomb -- it's 1950s technology. The central pipe is louvered rather than perforated, so you have dozens of little scoops intruding into the exhaust stream. Theoretically they improve the sound reduction by directing the exhaust flow into the insulation and thus increasing absorption. Trouble is, this creates massive turbulence and severely reduces the efficiency of the exhaust system. Plus the fibreglass is prone to breaking down and blowing out.

ok wow i did know the differance between mufflers, i just was in a rush, and am bad at proof reading.
-cherry bomb, yeah i was actually thinking about just making my own but with steel wool, and drilling about a thousand odd holes... heh... one of those long nights with the guys and 3 power drills in my garage....

thanks again for your help

wow, that is lucky, my friend drove my car into a snow bank the other day.... trying to teach 'em to drive... yeah... pretty good eh? lucky it was a 3 foot wall of powder. yeah the only reason i like snow is it slicks the road up just enough to keep people off it so you can go drift.... heh... but i did tap my rear right wheel doing it... broke the wheel bearing....sigh... live and learn...

That guy is retarded. From what you say that car is worth $500 - maybe a little more cause of demand.
I'd say keep looking.

oh definatly, i'm willing to wait around 4 years for my gt

yeah, i did find a few 5th gens with blown engines, but....its not a 6th, so that doesnt help.... there was one 96 gt, with a blown head gasket, but it was 3000 and it needed serious body work, and had 298k miles.... little ambitious for a seller eh?

ok, i have a 95 hatch st automatic, i want a 200hp+ manual, should i swap out the trans for a manual, then swap a 3s-g(t)e into it?

or just enjoy this one for a while and look for a gt manual, and swap that?

idk if im stubborn, or sentimental... but i do love my car...

your thoughts...

ok so this summer I'm thinking about making my car a bit more "invisible" for lack of better words, flat black, other stuff, and a new exhaust. currently i have stock exhaust, with a coffee can aerotec muffler on it, sounds great, just loud... so what specifically should i do to make it really quiet, with out hurting performance. i was thinking replacing part of my exhaust with a cherry bomb, and putting the stock muffler back on, so a grand total of 4 mufflers, i heard something about resonators, i really don't know a lot about the terms, i no it makes things quieter, and that a resonator is a kind of muffler, (absorption).

so any ideas?

You do realize it takes a fair bit of force for an engine to suck up a significant amount of water and to get that much water on your filter, you need to almost dunk it.

You don't NEED a bypass valve, but if you like peace of mind, then go for it.

Well just expect to not go anywhere when it floods.

haha, I'm up in NH, newmarket, we had some flooding, closed the whole town, me and my friend who had a lowered probe, drove through the 1-1.5 foot water, some was close to 2 feet, stayed away from that....

i realize i probably shouldnt have done it.... but i was like what the hell, why not, i took my air box off, and had the intake running through the stock filter that was zip tied on, -think short ram intake, with oem filter, makes one mean sound... till the engine warms up.. as far as going through the flood with a cai, disconnect the second pipe and put a cone on it, if you have a 2 piece tube....

and i feel bad for driving my celi through water, thats why im saving up for a cj,

sorry for the no caps...
