Hey guys, hard to believe I've been a member this many years to this website but I've had my celica since 2006 and since that had it all rebuilt, hopped up, painted, etc. I've had a great time here on the boards and had a lot of help from many of you guys over the years with this issue or that one. Special thanks to Manny for hooking me up with the cam install work and tune. That was great man and made the car much more enjoyable. Anyway, I sold my celica today and am no longer a celica owner. It was a fun car and good times in it. Take care guys, hopefully you all have a great rest of the year. |

Hey guys, there are several ecu's available on eBay for my '96 Celica 2.2 5sfe. I really don't want to pull my ecu out unless absolutely necessary so I was wondering if one of you would know which part number or model number I specifically need... 1996 Celica 2.2 5s-fe with manual trans and does have obd2. I found ecus to have the first 5 numbers the same: 89661 but it's the last 5 numbers that change...one reads 89661-2D870, one reads 89661-2D701, and I think mine reads 89661-2D4xx... Any help would be much appreciated. |

It's possible I may have messed up my tune somehow although I can't figure out how but let's just say I did... Anyway, my question is, is there a bypass option on the SAFC II that would allow me to run the ecu without any tuning input? If not, how do I check my tune to see if there is an error? Is there a log of changes that the SAFC II keeps? Thanks guys! |

If you do, this is probably the kit you should use: ZEX I've wanted to do this for my 5sfe and researched it quite a while. I found that many people had good things to say about this kit. |

I had my engine 2.2 5sfe rebuilt in 2010 and it wasn't cheap. It ended up costing me nearly $3,800 and I had it done at a well know local garage. You might as well buy a long block reman on ebay for $800 and use that. |

Here's some areas I've replaced leaky seals: Oil pump, cam seal, crank seal, rear main seal, valve cover seal, and valve seals. Thing is, most of those you can trace to the leaky source so if you can't I would imagine it's burning oil internally...but you said no blue smoke so that's kind of weird. Valve seals will blow blue smoke too but usually just at start up. Also when you say barely a quart of oil in the engine when ready for an oil change, do you mean there's barely any on the dipstick? If that's the case, that's only about a quart worth of loss. If your engine didn't have any oil in it, it would surely die in minutes while running. |

I got full exhaust, cams, intake, and tune and just replaced my aftermarket clutch with an oem this past fall. A new oem is just fine. |

This is really great info, thanks!! I'll do all of this and see what's happening. I'll send you a PM as well. I wasn't able to clearly see your map sensor diagram. Is it possible you can magnify the map sensor wiring a bit? |

Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it. My scan tool read the following: ![]() 20140222_221153 by SonOfNemesis, on Flickr And the thing is, after I replaced it, it ran good for a few moments and I thought that was that. Well I tried starting the car yesterday and it started up fine but then died. When I finally got it to run on it's own (without having to give it gas), it ran like crap. I checked for vac leaks, tested all fuses and even the fuel pump, fuel sending unit, and the EFI as well. Plugs and wires look good. Cap and rotor are good. I do have arching (tested the coil). After the MAP was replaced, I cleared the memory with my scan tool and the same error screen came back immediately...that threw me off because usually it would take some time before it would do that. Has to be a short right? Trying to decided what to do next... |

My brother is looking at buying an 03 Celia GTS that's been sitting at a dealer for 2 and a half months. I went with him to check it out and it looks great, has a clean car fax, and only has 80k miles. It drove real nice in the city and highway. When he came back from the test drive with the sales guy we looked at the engine bay and just for the heck of it i pulled the oil cap off and noticed a little white sludge. I pulled the dip stick and the oil looked perfect. The sales guy said it happens when cars sit for a while and it's just moisture but it will clear up after it's been driven more. I know this is crazy but i tasted the sludge and it was bitter, not sweet. Thoughts? |

Okay, so all done and said. It was the map sensor. $65 to solve the problem. Gotta love it. |

Ok so after lots of troubleshooting, fuel pump is fine. Fp sending unit is fine. Coil is good, rotor is good, plugs and wires look fine. Car was running 'ok' but seems to be misfiring and I had to keep the gas pedal on to keep it running or it would die otherwise. Fuses checked with a meter and no problems there... Any ideas guys? Perhaps even though the plugs and wires look ok, maybe I should just change them? They are good plugs and wires and only have about 12k miles on them since the last tune up. |

Hey guys, I'm going to change out the FP regulator in my 96 celica 2.2. Is this just a easy swap out? Or, do I need to set the pressure myself? Thanks! |

Thanks for your reply. I do have a meter. I'll check out those numbers you mentioned. The cap, rotor, and wires were done at the same time so they aren't too old. My car started up today and ran for a few seconds...so weird. |

Just posted a new topic question for fuel related issues to this thread. Anyway, here's a question from that post... When checking the ignition coil, I pulled off one of the spark plug wires and set it next to the metal frame in the engine bay...like 1" away. I then attempted to start the engine. It started but no arching came from the plug wire. Did I do something wrong here? |

Hi guys, I am about to change my fuel filter or my 96 2.2 Celica. I located it but have a couple questions: 1) What's the process? Do I need to disconnect my negative from the battery? Pull a fuse? Not sure here... 2) When checking the ignition coil, I pulled off one of the spark plug wires and set it next to the metal frame in the engine bay...like 1" away. I then attempted to start the engine. It started but no arching came from the plug wire. Did I do something wrong here? Thanks! |

Hey guys, this weather we're getting in NH really sucks. I have not been able to do the work yet but I plan on tackling it this weekend. One thing about the fuel pump and trouble shooting...is there any tips for testing to see if it's good without having to access it just yet? |

No, Presure2 did the tune for me and set it up up to be as balanced as possible. That was back in October of 2012. There's no sooty deposit on my exhaust port at all. |

I have colt cams - P2 posted the dyno on it. They made a noticeable difference for sure but after the tune with the SAFC 2, it was a very nice increase. It still runs very strong (although having a fuel issue right now) and is definitely more fun to drive but don't expect to smoke that many cars. |
