Hey guys, I need to remove the dead pedal so I can take my nasty carpet out and give it a thorough cleaning! What is the best way to get it out of there? Does it just snap in/out? I wouldn't want to break it...
Thanks!

I bought new tires last Friday, and apparently I have 2 bent rims. They had been hanging out on the rear of the vehilce, i didn't notice until they mounted the new tires.....sooooo if anyone has their factory 14" rims hanging around i'd like to purchase a couple! I'd like to not pay much, if there are tires that need to be removed i'd pay for that and shippng and maybe a little extra for your troubles! wink.gif I'm sure we can come to an agreement. I only ask that they are in decent condition. I don't so much care about looks as i do about them being unbent.

Thanks!

Correct, no carrier bearing on the ST. Thanks for the help guys, I'll post how it turns out.

There's so much to do and I'm trying to prioritize what to do next. I'm thinking timing belt with camshaft and crankshaft seals and valve cover gasket is next, then if i have the time i'll do the axles in the same weekend. That's the plan anyway....may be a stretch. I can spread it out if needed.

I'm sad to hear this is a PITA. I'm sure i'll have to do this sometime soon. However, if it makes you feel better, I will bookmark this thread for future reference!

Yes! I will definitely replace the seals and gear oil while i'm working on it. I have bottles of synchromesh just waiting to be used. I'll try to remove them again soon.

Thanks for the support! I checked it out a little this morning. I found 3 screws along the inside top of the glove box assembly and one on the bottom by the console. After removing these, it wouldn't come out so i felt around and it appears there is another screw under the kick panel. It looks like I'll need to remove the door sill trim to remove the kick panel to get at it. It was raining pretty hard at that point so i didn't want to work on it with the door open wide. Right now i'm just trying to get an idea as far as what will be involved. Removing the dash will be a PITA for sure....I've never been good at working with vehicle interiors. I always break stuff!!! But I do like to do things myself too...

808 Celica: Car is a manual. I bought the CV axles from NAPA, about $50 each (+ core). The problem is getting the shaft out, in the service manuals it shows that you pry under the tulip against the tranny. I pried on it for about an hour before giving up. I guess those snap rings can be a bear to loosen...I was almost to the point of getting the 3 point puller and slide hammer out. I'm afraid this may damage the tranny/diff too!

One other thing, on the passenger side CV shaft, there is a damper about half way down the shaft. You can see it in this pic:

I ordered the axle at oreillys originally, and it didn't come with the damper. They told me it was balanced from the factory, and that it didn't need it, but i'm pretty sure it is there for a reason laugh.gif

I guess it could be possible that they would overshoot the price so that I would feel good when the final total turns out less than quoted. But it does seem like bs.

If i can get to the evaporator, i'll do all the work myself and just take it somewhere to have it charged.

I'll try to take pics along the way.

I need to replace my CV axles. Actually, the boots are bad, and the joints seem fine, but I'm afraid the task of taking apart the joints to replace the boots will be more than I want to do. So i picked up some CV axles from napa last weekend. I had the car up on the lift with the outer joint disconnected from the hub, and I couldn't separate the inner joint from the tranny! I tried prying on the tulip, like illustrated in the BGB, but to no avail. Also, prying against the tranny seems like a bad idea. Anyone have any hints as to how to get that thing out? I only tried the drivers side and failed, so i didn't even attempt the passenger side.....

BTW, the dealership wants $580 to replace the boots rolleyes.gif in case you were wondering.

So I got some bad news from the dealership today regarding my AC woes.....I need a new evaporator!

The damage.....$2500!!!! (more than i bought the car for)

I said "hmm...no thanks." Obviously.

So, I'm going to try this myself. Anyone have any experience changing this out? The mechanic was saying the whole dash would need to be removed. My repair manual says just the glove box needs to be removed, which wouldn't be so bad. I'm going to tear into it tomorrow morning and take a look around. I'm hoping i don't have to remove the whole dash!

Also, this part seems hard to find. I've looked online, and only autozone has a listing for it (170.99). And it needs to be special ordered.

What do you guys think? Can I replace the evaporator myself? I'll tear into it tomorrow morning and find out i guess....

See my signature for parts i'm looking for. Here's tops on my list:

center skid plate

seats in good condition(if close to Arkansas....)

Pioneer CD magazine

A funky looking exhaust mount, toward the front of the vehicle. I know this isn't very descriptive...I'll get pics!

I'm sure there will be more soon....

That'll be a good start!

(Removed hatch supports 6-12)

MercuyFree:

The CV boots are pretty bad. No telling how long they have been split. I think i'll try to replace the shafts with new ones and do the brakes at the same time. Looks like the passenger side has a balancer on it. I wonder if the replacement will include all that?

I'm going to post a WTB... right now! biggrin.gif

Hey guys! I bought a celica today. It is a '95 ST hatchback. $180k miles, loaded with power everything and 5-speed manual. I bought it from a friend of mine who has owned it for the past 10+ years, from when we were in high school, so I have a good idea of the history of the vehicle. It hasn't been meticulously maintined to my standards, but if it survived this far, I can make it survive longer. I'm pretty happy with it, but it needs a few things before it'll be a good daily driver. Here's the short list:

New Tires - Has 2 good tires up front, but I found a set of 14" goodyears for $30 apiece on clearance. Is that a good deal?
New CV shafts - I have never owned a FWD vehicle. Both sides have busted boots, is that a good indication that they need to be replaced?
New Brakes - Shakes pretty bad, and sometimes makes a grinding noise! It has 180k miles, i don't think the rears have ever been changed.
New valve cover gasket - slowly leaking oil.
Fix A/C - the compressor doesn't respond to the switch. I'll check out the electrical, but i fear it may be a bad clutch. Hopefully it is a fuse or relay or something?

Also, there are little things:

Dash lights: only the center illumination is working, making it hard to see the gauges at night.
Struts on the hatchback need to be replaced. I'm using the prop method to hold it open right now. Hope it doesn't fall on me!!! frown.gif
Antenna was broken off at some point.
Looks like there is a skid plate missing in the front, center.
There is a funny looking exhaust support toward the front of the vehicle that was broken.

Also, i need to look around for the hatchback divider panel. It could use some good seat covers too, or new seats all together.

The stock steel wheels are missing all their hub caps! It came with one, and when i went to pry it off it just fell off, leaving a pile of plastic tabs! Good thing it didn't come off on the interstate!

Checked gas mileage, it took 10.5 gallons after 375 miles. That's about 35.7mpg. WAAAAAAY better than the 14 i was getting in the Jeep I just sold. I didn't use AC of course, but the windows were down and the sun roof open on the interstate, so it probably evens out. I'm impressed! I do tend to be easy on the throttle though, and I use cruise control.

Great site BTW! If anyone has parts for sale (hatchback supports, antenna, skid plates) i'm interested in buying them.
