Alright guys. I was happy to be back, now sadly I have to part with the baby for unforeseen circumstances. You can check through my posts what I have done, here is a brief rundown:

1996 Celica GT Vert
140k
Have all the service records/window sticker from when it was new until now. Have the original sales brochure (26 page big boy) and 2 ads cut from magazines when it was being advertised

New 60k mile tires
Plugs, wires, cap, rotor
Fuel Filter
ALL 3 Shift Solenoids
Tranny service, Dexron VI (did make it shift a little harder, but crisp none the less)
Mobile 1 long life 20k oil change less than 500 miles
Bought the Replica front splitters for the front (from here)
Replacement headlights, and marker lights (from here)
Bought the Leather upholstery (black with red stitching) from our dude in Hong Kong (not installed yet)
Have a timing belt kit, water pump, gaskets all new in box
New Brakes and rotors for the front installed
New brakes and rotors for rear in box
Donut for whistling exhaust (small leak in flange behind the cat, easy fix just not got around to it)

Had a new top last year
Needs some body work, dent in drivers door, dent in pass fender, and bumper cover in rear has seen better days. All in all looks good. Runs AMAZING. Love the car but have to part.

Looking to get close to what I have into it.... $2800, best offer 518-461-9430 shoot me a text...

Found the videos, ready to do the job. Gasket ordered for the oil pan...

Question is... what else would be a good idea while I'm down there?

And... saw a YouTube video with the guy saying "they don't make a gasket for this one" so he used only the tube sealant. Would anyone suggest the cork gasket with sealant or just the sealant alone?

Finally I'm home.

Bought a 1996 Vert off of Craigslist. This would be my 5th Celica, and there was a good gap in between... Now I'm ready to sink money in the project, and just wanted to keep a thread to share my progress

Purchased: 1996 Celica Vert, Leather, Auto. 138,000 miles

Window Sticker ($28,000), and all service (at the purchasing dealership) came with the car. Original owner bought the extended warranties that brought him up to 98k miles... Second owner kept their receipts for the half assed general maintenance that was performed since their ownership.

Car when purchased: Hard cold start, Check engine light for Shift solenoids. $900 bucks Needed Tires. Had a 1 month old Brand NEW soft Top installed.

Works performed so far:
Plugs, Wires, Cap, Rotor
Cleaned Throttle body
Purchased new Tires (tires-easy.com $37 a tire shipped Thunderer brand, 60k mile warranty. Was skeptical, they are amazing)
Peeled that half ass plastidip off, repainted the rims silver
New PCV valve
New Fuel Filter
New shift solenoids in tranny
New Filter and flush for tranny, switch to Dexron Vi
New Shift solenoid on behind Neutral Control Switch
Air Filter
Convertible top 360 kit for waterproofing top
Wash, strip, wax

Parts ordered as of 6/23:
Brakes from Amazon ($23 a pair front and back)
Rotors from Advanced auto ($100 shipped for all 4)
Seat Covers From Vince, just came in
Exhaust donut for small whistling leak from in front of the cat
Headlights from another Celica Brother... to replace an old leaking one that has yellowed
Front Fiberglass splitters
Factory Dealership 1996 Celica 26 page brochure, its amazing
3 ads for 1996 celica.

Parts to be ordered:
New interior Carpet (to freshen the interior)
Random interior bezels (the old wood stick on is peeling off)
Factory Floor Mats (didn't come with them)
Convertible boot cover (in negotiations currently)
Interior Speakers
Factory CD player not working, so getting one of those

Long Term Plans:
FACTORY FACTORY
Going to spend this winter taking care of the body work. Going to have her repainted Renaissance Red with super duper clear coat.

That is it folks. I want this celica to be as factory as factory can be. I've even started filling up a CD case with the hits from the later 80s and early 90s up to 96 to make it authentic!

I believe it is 4 years until this baby is a classic. So I am time capsuling this one to bring to shows. It is my play toy, it doesn't need to be fast... just want her to shine!

Replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Fresh oil change, shift solenoids (all 3). P0500 code comes on every once in a while...

When I try to start the car after it sits overnight, or for a few days... The car will start, then the rpms will drop down and it will stall---- OR---- The rpms will drop, and it will hover around 300-400 until I give it gas

Once I give it some gas when I start it, the car runs fine, drives around fine, will restart fine... I don't get it!

Timing belt is old, done at 67k miles and it has 139k on it now. Maybe its out of time or getting week I don't know....

Ok so I changed the solenoids in the tranny and they were fine. Changes the one in the first video and instantly off.

Note: I did not have to uninstall the neutral control switch. I only had to loosen the bolts on the switch and I was able to get the socket on the solenoid bolts.

Code is clear!

Did i just totally screw up? I drained the tranny when I replaced the shift solenoids and didn't even notice it was dexron vi until after I put it in...

Update:
Changed out the two solenoids in the tranny, filled with 2.5 quarts of dextron 4. Code is still there. I clear the code turn it off and start it back up and the code is still there.

I noticed the fluid that came out was brown brown, and really runny. Does anyone know what the part is for the solenoid in the video?

Back to the same car. Bought the 1996 vert. Starts great rides smooth... however under heavy acceleration, there is a whistling sound. It is loud too... Any suggestions on where to start?

That great info guys! Thank you very much!

Any idea on where to find the parts. Rock auto seems kind of generic, I don't want to get the wrong thing with the tranny apart...

Also, Do you think that is why the car doesn't start when its cold, it just turns on and idles down to off... If I give it gas, it levels out and runs fine from there...

Short and skinny.
Problem: check engine light. Car starts but you need to give it gas when its cold for the idle to even out.
Code is P0773. Apparently a solenoid in the tranny?

What the **** do I do here?

Bought the car for 900 bucks. Brand new top no rust, minimal body damage... 139k miles on it. Great deal. It drives and shifts perfect. It does make a very high pitched whine under heavy acceleration... That's all I know so far.
