Ill be there for the first time!!!!! smile.gif

Great first visit! Great job taking first place and representing the "New School" Celicas - the GT4 looked great! Having some of our all-trac brethren (and sisters) from other generations was a beautiful sight. I think more of them should have taken the other positions than the 7th gens. But then again I am not one of the judges. It was nice to see those that did participate in the show and the enthusiasts that enjoyed seeing those cars on display!

hey, im the asian dude who chatted up with you about your conversion!!! boy i gotta say man, awesome work!!! possibly, do you have a project thread i can follow as i wanted to do the same conversion for the rear to setup for rwd!! or maybe we can even meet up to check it out in more in depth view of your work. im located in riverside, ca btw....

well while im waiting for the rest of the car to get painted. here is how i got the celica Tach to work with the V6 signal

in my purchase of the 1MZ i got the gauge cluster too. i have a spare celica cluster so i took a chance on doing this mod. I think i read on MR2oc.com that this is the easiest way to do it.

first take the clear plastics off both gauges. first the celica gauge then the camry gauge.

flip the gauge over and under the tech you will see some screws. remove all of them to free the tach.

this is the backside of the tachs.

carefully move the needle to the 6 oclock position and then pull off the needles.

on the camry gauge you remove the 2 screws on the front and it will free the circuit card. on the celica gauge you have to carefully pull the face plate off, then remove the 2 screws.

all you have to do now is switch them around and put back together. This should give you a calibrated tach for the signals coming off the V6 instead of an I4.

this can also be done by switching just the circuit board on the back side. if you look closely, the whole gauge assembly is plugged onto the board and can be released undoing the clips of the base. switch 6th gen tach on v6 circuit board and your good to go

plachem, ur trans do not have lsd. i have ran es300/camry e153 trans in my celica and no bar = open diff / bar = lsd. also, if im correct, es300 trans probably has a shorter final drive so expect to do 80mph at 4k rpm. topping out at 120 at 6k rpm. also, there is two types of mr2 turbo inner axles, lsd/no lsd. the difference between them is the drivers side lsd axle has longer splines than the non lsd. plz see link

3sgte clutch has a different spline count than the 5sfe.
so the results are:
3sgte to s53/s54 trans = 3s flywheel & pressure plate, 5s clutch disc
3sgte to e153 trans = 3s flywheel, pressure plate, clutch disc
5sfe to s53/s54 trans = 5s flywheel, pressure plate, clutch disc
5sfe to e153 trans = 5s flywheel & pressure plate, 3s clutch disc

3sgte spline count = 21
5sfe spline count = 20

so count the spines on your transmission to determine which clutch will fit.
