Whelp. Trying to decide if I want to go with D2 RS coilover system or BC BR's. I'm getting about $1,100 back in tax returns, so I can afford either.

The D2 RS's seem to have more settings, have bodies that are aluminum and are electroplated to resist rust. They're also purple and black. (Would match the lug and caliper theme I've got going)

Then there are the BC BR's.

Anyone have insight on either of these two setups? I feel like Timmy said he has them on his car, but I can't remember.

BCs. Or Teins.....both are good choices

Depends on what you want.

BCs (as they are sold) are much better suited for a street application because the rates on them are on the softer side (yet harder than stock and harder than most lowering springs)

BC BR is as good as D2 RS in terms of build quality.

Basically I'm looking to lower the car right able a set of 16x8 0 offset rims with a 195/50/r16 tire and be able to preload so there won't be a bunch of rub when I hit bumps or take corners quick. I may be doing a bit of autocross as well.

BCs let you preload the springs. The body is threaded so the preload setting is independent from the lowering setting. It's also rebound adjustable if I'm not mistaken, just like most other coilovers (Megans, D2)

not one single coilover on the market has rebound adjustment for our cars except hotbitz which is a custom made coilover. All coilovers available have compression adjustment. I check the pricier ksport coilovers which cost $1500 and they do not say they have rebound adjustment

rebound adjustment is for coilovers that are used on the track.

Yes I was mistaken, I confused the names.

I would suggest putting on 205/50/16, mostly because there are a lot more tires made in that size than the 195/50/16. but that's just me.

BCs or Megans. ONLY Get teins if its the higher end models, the Tein basics are junk.

I have the D2's and they are awesome!

The two tires I'm looking at are General G-Max and the Nankang RSII's (I think that's the name). They come in a 195/50/16. I want stretch, or I'd do 205
Also, the description on the BC BR's is that they're rebound adjustable.

i wonder the quality of the euro/jap spec tein superstreet coilovers. softer spring rates and pillow ball mounts :?

the super streets are not bad, but they normally come with no top mount (seen it a few times people using stock mounts unless its an option to pay more to get it) and adjustability as far as I know is not the 3 ring type like newer type models. its still like a single ring nut adjustment, kinda like a generic coil sleeve setup. SS dont have that much adjustment either, no camber, no preload, etc. their damper setting just to ride normal is the stiffest setting and its still not stiff enough. on megans or bcs there is more adjustment left which is nice. I had tein basics on my other celi and i ordered BC coilovers that same day i installed the teins - it was damn bouncy and it couldnt even drop low enough, i was only just over 1 in adjustment still lots of finger gap and realized that was considered by tein manual over the limit, wow, why get them if they barely even drop lower than springs. IDK, many of my friends have teins because of the name but they agree that its not that great. tein are generally built for japan type streets where you go slow and roads may be a bit better, so with softer spring rates like you mentioned to the rest of the world is super bouncy.

Its too bad KW doesn't have anything for the 6th gen. Going from cheap coilovers like K-sport, D2, Megan, etc. to something like a KW V3 is night and day.

Never again will I purchase $1000 coilovers. Ever.

^ why what coilovers did you have?

My Celica had Ground Control sleeves, but I have taken a ride in a 6th gen with Megans and hated it. It didn't make the car handle any better (I would say it was worse). Stiff does not equal better.

Most of the brands just the same junk, just rebranded.

MR2 has DGR - another ~$1000 brand that I wouldn't recommend.
FR-S has KW V3s - FAR superior, but cost a bit more. I highly suggest spending the extra money.

Really? actually the people who rode on my coilovers freak out how i dont have to slow down and they said it feels better than stock and some say it doesnt even feel dropped. My wife drives the other one and i dropped it when she was gone, when she came back and just drove it, I asked her about the ride, she said I didnt notice anything what do you mean?, she didnt even realize it was lowered.

I know a lot of people that do not know how to tune these coilover adjustment to their roads, in fact im the only one that knows how out of my friends, and i usually do this by driving in every single possible good and crap road to find the best compensating adjustment, takes sometimes days to a couple weeks to complete to get it right to the point where i never touch it anymore.
