Brakes are fine! Mr2 turbo front pads are perfect (again confirmed by the 3rd member!). Those are gt rotors. As soon as everything got bolted up, the dimensions worked out . The gt calipers are a no go on superstrut suspension knuckle! Impossible without mods. They'll bolt to the bracket, yes, but how far off the bracket they go is the problem. The gt bracket won't bolt to superstrut but has the right "offset". Without mods to something, no gt caliper.

so whats the verdict on installing superstrut twin piston calipers on mcpherson suspension??

and the brake lines what can we use?!

riochet can you clarify on this The gt calipers are a no go on superstrut suspension knuckle! Impossible without mods. They'll bolt to the bracket, yes, but how far off the bracket they go is the problem. The gt bracket won't bolt to superstrut but has the right "offset". according to what you wrote you just contradicted yourself. please clarify

QUOTE (Rusty @ Jan 18, 2013 - 10:25 PM) *

distance from the strut mount to the caliper mount is a bit longer.
the single pot is on a slight angle and sits out, the twins are flat and sit closer.

I test fitted with the old line and doesn't hit the caliper (red dot) as long as I turn it slightly - which inturn requires more hose lenght to reach

paint ftw

I'm pretty we can use 1st gen (94-97) Avalon Twin pot calipers.

These do in fact work, work well I might add. And the clear the stock GT alloys.

Would these work only in the front or would both front and rear 94-97 Avalon calipers fit on the GT?

Uhh no they wudnt fit on the rears it wudnt make sense to have twin piston on the rear. U need more braking piwer up front cause the cars front is much heavier than rear

i didnt know if the avalons had front and rear twin piston or if the rear avalon caliper would fit the GTs rear, makes sense thats its not rear twin piston tho. i know that the above picture is the front caliper, didnt know if it would be worth upgrading the rear.

so basically you would have the avalons front calper or mr2 and keep the stock GT rear caliper? im just clarifying.

The only reason you would want to upgrade the rear is if you went with the GT4 - 4 piston in the front. Then putting the 2 piston in the rear would even out the brake bias a decent amount because it would be really toward the front with the stock gt rear calipers and the GT4 front

makes sense, i may try the avalon caliper, like 35$ each at a local jyard why not try it

best think to do is find a local 6gc in a junkyard and make sure they have the 1st gen avalon their. take off the avalon calipers and see if they bolt on to the 6gc gt calipers. that way you dont have to waste your money.

also if the calipers do fit. see if the celica front brake line attaches to the avalon caliper correctly once mounting onto the hub.

QUOTE (Rusty)
Specs of the calipers for the ST202's
The single piston caliper specs (SS-II):
Piston Diameter: 57mm
Piston Count: 1
Total Piston Area: 2551.76mm2 (25.5176cm2)

The twin piston caliper specs (SS-III):
Piston Diameter: 40.4mm
Piston Count: 2
Total Piston Area: 2563.79mm2 (25.6379cm2)

They cover the same area, but you should get even distribution of pressure on the pads with the 2 pots.

1990-1995 Turbo MR2 calipers
Piston Diameter: 36mm
Piston Count: 2
Total Piston Area: 2035.75mm2 (20.3575cm2)

From the info I've gathered, these calipers came on the following cars:
95 - 97 Toyota Avalon w/ABS
94 - 96 Toyota Camry V6 w/ABS
94 - 96 Lexus ES300

Caliper specs
Piston Diameter: 42.8mm
Piston Count: 2
Total Piston Area: 2902.93mm2 (29.0293cm2)

Just look for yourself...here are the Avalon/Camry/ES300 rotor:

Vs the Celica GT rotor:

So if the rotors have the same diameter and thickness then the Avalon brake pad will work with the GT rotor (assuming the caliper bolts up). The GT pad wouldn't fit in the Avalon caliper anyway as its much longer then the Avalon's pad.

anyone think otherwise?

its confirmed 94-99 Celica GT brake pad is compatible with the avalon calipers, es300, and camry

here is the link of all the pads compatible with 6gc ST204/ST202 single piston caliper pads

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ebc-ud476/applications

also this is the oem part number for celica and avalon pads. I got confirmation from conicelli toyota dealer

part number # 04465-30080

I can confirm that the Avalon Twin Pot Caliper fits onto the Celica GT Bracket and GT Pads. I've spend numerous hours researching, test fitting and so on.

This was for my Rav4 project I've been working on. Thus there are some differences...obviously its a Rav4 steering knuckle as well as an LS430 rotor.

oh so then you yourself haven't actually fit the avalon caliper and bracket onto the 94-99 celica gt knuckle?

as i see by your pics its not fitted onto a 6gc

but i understand your logic. if the twin piston avalon fit onto gt brake brake why wouldn't it bolt onto the knuckle. while it will bolt onto the caliper if should fit logically speaking. maybe the offset is different but i doubt it. since pads are the same. i don't see why they wouldn't fit!

your just jelly njcmd2002 if these fit and they are bigger than the mr2/ss3 calipers

Correct, I don't own a Celica, so I cannot confirm but I'm pretty sure it'll work.

There's nothing to be jelly about, I don't care if I was the 1st, 3rd or last person to figure this out...I shared it. Fact is, if njcmd2002 didn't start this post I would have been less likely to continue my search and experimenting. There are many "lurkers" on forums who have a lot of information but never share it.

lol, jelly im not, im glad my topic has inspired, truth is most toyota calipers are same distance withing bolts, the problem is the offset, the avalon bracket may not fit the celica, but the avalon caliper with gt bracket would.

the problem is that it gets expensive to buy brakes until you find one. Only reason i gave up the mr2 calipers is because i will or maybe to a 4 pot caliper very soon for some idiotic reason, lol.

I just like to troll cuz its fun... lol but this thread gives posibility of cheap upgrades, and if the avalon is one of those, it would be awesome.
