Hello,
As some of you might know i'm busy with a 4AGE BT conversion. Only thing i'm wondering now is when i put the 4AGE 20V header on the 7AFE downpipe if the lenght will be equal comparing it with the stock 7AFE engine with stock (4-2-1) 7AFE header? As you can see on the pictures the itselves header fits perfect! Even the sizes are the same (both around 38.9mm = 1.566") All i need to know before the swap is if the lenght will be the same. Pictures of the 'new' header with an old downpipe i had lying around ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by onnaj: Apr 23, 2013 - 5:33 AM -------------------- |

you are asking a good question but its very easily answered. just put the 2 headers next to each other and compare. or do you not have the 7A header?

well from the look of it, the stock down pipe has a flex-pipe portion on it so it should have some wiggle room to play around with

It's still on the engine, so i was hoping someone would know this ![]() ![]() QUOTE Engine swapping and not redoing the exhaust? Why would you want to keep the restrictive factory exhaust? The sizes of the header and downpipe are the same, why should i replace the exhaust? For a NA engine, bigger is absolutely not better. The Blacktop does lack some torque already and with a big sized exhaust this would be worse. Toyota must have a reason to mount a 'small' size exhaust. Besides that, the exhaust is something i can do later on. I prefer spending my money on having a near new engine which the blacktop is at the moment. An option i keep in mind though, is to buy a 3SGE exhaust later on. It's a bit bigger but lacks the back pressure i have now. Don't forget the blacktop still is only a 1.6 ![]() But i like to hear your opinions on my thinking. Those are always welcome ![]() This post has been edited by onnaj: Apr 26, 2013 - 4:11 PM -------------------- |

I never said bigger. By restriction I mean the catalytic converter and muffler. Use the rest of the piping, sure. Scrapping the cat will give money to put towards putting the exhaust together and a new muffler.

The connecting plate to the cat on my downpipe was cut off so I was never able to figure if it bolted up properly or not.
I do know that the 20V ST had different mounting spots on the downpipe to the frame which did not bolt up properly to stock. Your best bet if it doesn't work is to weld it on,. |

I cannot scrap the cat for smog reasons ![]() This post has been edited by onnaj: Apr 27, 2013 - 4:56 AM -------------------- |

Ah ok. Well I figured since you were allowed to swap engines that were never offered in a car that you wouldn't have issues with emissions.

Ah ok. Well I figured since you were allowed to swap engines that were never offered in a car that you wouldn't have issues with emissions. I do have to undergo a new examenation of the car when the engine is in. I think it has to meet the stock smog passes for the engine that was in there before, but i don't think that'll be a problem. But yes i'm stuck with the cat, but maybe i can change it for a magnaflow or so later on. When the engine is fitted, i'll post in this topic ofcouse if it'll be a direct swap. -------------------- |

For people that are also doubting about the swap...the header is a perfect match with the 7AFE header. The sizes and the 4-2-1 design are exactly the same. The connection to the engine head differs a bit, but without any doubt it's a direct fit.
I'll shoot photos of it later on, but i left my cam at the place i took the 7AFE out. -------------------- |

They're both A series engines, so some parts will interchange.
