Heyo,
Just a quick question here. I'm in the process of buying a GT-Four from Alberta, and driving it back to British Columbia. Now, I need to get the car to pass a safety inspection in BC before I get any insurance coverage, and one of the many stipulations is that (as you may know), a bunch of lights have to be DOT approved. My plan is to source out a few items from a North American '94 Celica, whatever model I can find, and transplant them onto my future GT-Four. The items are: - Headlights, both high & low beam - sidemarker lights - 3rd break light. Now I've searched and perused many-a-posts, and read up on these two articles, but am not sure whether it answered my questions. http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=71851&hl= http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=76907 My main question is, will transplanting these lights work, and will the wiring be a quick and easy 'plug n play' ? Thanks for your time, Jeebus |

If the GT-Four has the standard headlights and not the projectors the USDM will be a direct swap. Eh, side-markers will be a problem. USDM have the side-markers next to the turn signals where as JDM have them closer to the door. The thing to do there would be to get USDM fenders if the JDM ones won't pass inspection. As far as the third brake light goes I'm not sure what you're needing? All the ones I've seen have the third light. I know some European Celicas don't have them, in that case rather or not the wiring is there I don't know. Worst case scenario you would use the taillights to trigger a relay that'd operate the third light.

I'm not sure what i was thinking when i wrote up about the 3rd break light. I've been doing so much reading and researching on how to make this car pass the safety that my mind is not thinking correctly. The light probably does light up when the brakes are applied without the need to re-wire anything.
As for the sidemarkers on the JDM GT-Four, I was thinking of wiring it up with the wire & bulb from the USDM sidemarkers, but I guess I'd still have to get a DOT stamped cover for it. Doh! Thanks for the info though! |

you may need to add usdm tail lights or rear sidemarkers to your list. i heard that if you're keeping the jdm tail lights, you will need to add red sidemarkers on the side of the rear bumpers since the jdm tail lights don't have the red reflectors like the usdm lights. some people end up taking them off after inspection.
also, if you need DOT headlamps, i have a set still sitting in my apartment in Calgary if you're interested. i won't be back for another 2.5 weeks though. -------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

The only lights I had to change when doing my OOP inspection were the low beams, everything else on the car was approved

The low beams and installation of Daytime running lights were the only changes on my car. The JDM reflector lamps and JDM projector lamps are not DOT approved. You will have to source out a USDM set of low beams. Sidemarker was ok, there was a 3rd brake light, and they didn't note the lack of red reflectors |
