The map lights on the 99 GT Conv are really dim....I was wondering if anyone could tell me if these would work as brighter replacements?

The BA9s adapter looks the same as the stock bulbs. Just measure, if there is space inside the housing.
You will have to cut some pieces from the inside, but it should be fine.

as long as it fits the socket all you have to worry about is mounting it and if it fits in place.

i just used a 4 SMD LED bulb direct replacement which is more than enough. will the one you select be bright - yes.

Nope, the bulbs on the link are different, maybe they would fit in the trunk.

The map lights are, as mentioned by The_enD, BA9.

I got something like these: http://www.amazon.com/Amico-White-9-LED-Li...mp;keywords=ba9

This is another option: http://www.amazon.com/LunaSea-Bayonet-LED-...mp;keywords=ba9
Note that here you need to check the size of the LED board, so it fits inside the map light.

(links are just an examples, not an actual LED bulb recommendations.. Just make sure they're BA9)

Sorry I didn't know BA9 was a type of socket...and I thought the ones I needed were double ended....

The only double ended light bulb in our car is the trunk light. Map light has two type BA9 bulbs. Word of advice: dont try to pry the bulb out, push it in and twist it so it unhooks.

What was involved in installing it? Did they fit as is or did you have to mod them in any way?

i have the same 12smd board as azn87 works pretty well. it should come with adapters if you purchase from ebay. it lights up the interior pretty well. i also have it in the back for my trunk light light with the festoon adapter. i could add some pictures later tonight if you like.

Please do! I'm curious how it fits/mounts into the dome light.

Well this is weird then.

Without checking the car, I ordered two type BA9 bulbs and when they came in, I tried to install them.

Surprisingly, the bulbs in the map light are double ended bulbs with the number A12V5W on them, not BA9s.

I have 99 convertible...why are my map lights different?

I apologize, I forgot that the convertibles and celicas with sunroof differ at the map light... I have no idea what kind of a bulb is in those models. Hope I didn't set you back for the most expensive BA9 bulbs biggrin.gif

Nah, they were only $6 for four...with four cars in my "fleet" I'm sure I will find a home for them.

I am finding it next to impossible to find the right LED light though.....A12v5W seems to mean nothing.

I'd say label A12V5W is just a voltage/power label, not an actual bulb...

Post a picture of the bulb and socket so we can help you

This is the only pic I have in my phone at the moment, I can get a better pic later (at lunch). The bulb measures 1.42" long.

That is a festoon bulb. so on ebay they should include the adapter with the purchase of the smd led board and i would say you could just leave the smd board on the plastic cover and snap it back in place.

That light bulb is called C5W, but you need to measure the length of it, as they differ. Of course a few mm bigger bulb shouldn't be a problem, but they range somewhere between 29 and 42 mm, so ...
You also need to be aware not to buy the CANBUS version of the light bulb, as our cars don't have the CANBUS. The thing is that CANBUS LED bulbs are without the necessary resistors for constant 12V, so they can't withstand that

The length of the bulb I have in there currently is 1.42" (36mm)

And THIS is the bulb I found....I am assuming this will work? Who knew replacing these bulbs would be such a pain! lol

Regardless, I appreciate all your help with this smile.gif
